Questions raised by Ghaziabad incident appeared first on .

Children immersed in mobile screens, childhood cut off from the outside world and increasing craze for Korean drama and music. After the recent incident in Ghaziabad, the question has once again become acute that in which direction our children are going. Is this just the effect of Korean culture, or are our social and family mistakes hidden behind it? To find answers to these questions, the team of ABP Live talked in detail to Dr. Rahul Chandhok, a famous senior psychiatrist of Artemis Hospital.

Emptiness, not Korean culture, is attracting children

Dr. Rahul Chandok clearly says that this problem is not of any one country or culture. The real problem is that we do not have our own content and our own time for children. The playing fields have reduced. Mobile has taken the place of sports and entertainment. When there are no Indian stories, dramas and films for children, they will watch outside content only. Korean content is especially created keeping teenagers in mind, hence it attracts them more.

Mobile becomes new member of the family

Dr. Chandhok gives a perfect example. Today, to keep the child calm, the first thing parents do is hand over the mobile phone. Be it food, silence or talking to someone, the phone is in front of you in every situation. The child starts considering the mobile as a part of the family from an early age. In such a situation, it becomes very difficult to snatch the mobile from him when he grows up.

The playground ends, the screen world begins

The real job of children is to play. But lack of grounds, parks and courts has imprisoned the children within the boundary walls. They are not able to meet children of their own age. The Ghaziabad incident revealed that children did not go to school for years, had no contact with anyone and loneliness had a deep impact on their mentality. It was written on the walls that he was feeling extremely lonely.

It is important to understand the difference between distraction and happiness.

Dr. Chandok says that mobile phones distract children but do not make them happy. A cartoon or video may keep the child quiet for a while, but it cannot provide emotional connection. When loneliness increases, the child starts considering that imaginary world as his real world.

If children want to be kept away from Korean culture or mobile phones, then first of all parents will have to give them time. Using mobile while sitting near the child is not quality time. It is important to listen to the child’s daily conversations, understand his friendships, fights and dreams. Today there are fewer children in homes, and the age difference is greater. In such situations, children become even more lonely.

If there is no content of their own then children will go somewhere else

Dr. Chandok believes that very few modern dramas and serials are being made in accordance with Indian culture. In the internet era, content from all over the world is available to children. Translation has made it easier. If attractive content is not made for children and teenagers in our country, then they will definitely go towards foreign content.

Social media is not banned, right environment is needed

Dr. Chandok has a balanced opinion on the advice of keeping children below 16 years of age away from mobile phones. They say that mobile and internet are part of today’s life. There is talk of banning social media in countries like Australia and France, but the solution in a country like India is not a ban. The solution is to create the right content for children and create an environment at home where children can spend time with parents.

Dr. Rahul Chandok believes that if children get the assurance that their parents will take out time for them, then they themselves will stay away from mobile phones. They will sit near you after completing their studies. If this trust is not there, then they will stay awake at night and start living in a mobile and imaginary world.

If you understand the children, they will come back on their own.

Overall, it can be said that Korean culture is not the problem of children, rather it is a mirror of the shortcomings of our society. To give right direction to children, we have to give them time, create content for them according to our culture and make mobile an option, not a support. Only then will the children return to their parents and their world.
