Talking to PTI, Manoj Bajpayee said that he and his team did not expect that such a big controversy would arise over the title of the film. He said, ‘We did not expect this. But when this happened, we issued an apology within two days. If something hurts someone’s emotions, we creative people are always ready to improve ourselves and correct our mistakes.

Manoj Bajpayee said that changing the title of the film was not a big deal for him. He said, ‘We are creative people. We can think of ten more titles and they will be equally interesting. The actor also admitted that this controversy had an impact on the entire team for some time. He said, ‘Are we affected? Yes, for some time. But until we released our official statement, we were trying to assess the situation without getting too mentally affected.

Manoj Bajpayee received threats
Manoj Bajpayee told that he also received threats during the controversy, but he did not change his daily routine due to fear of this. The actor said, ‘When people troll you, abuse you and drag your family into all this, I feel sympathy for them.’ He also said that many people reacted just by looking at the title of the film without knowing its story.

Regarding his reaction to trolling and criticism, the actor said, ‘I am a curious and educated person. I neither have the energy nor the time to debate with people who form opinions without complete information or even make the effort to educate themselves. There is no point in arguing with such people. You should not get into the mud and fight with those people who want to drag you into the same mud.

On Wednesday, the anger of the people of Yadav community was visible on the streets in Sambhal. The protesters registered their protest by burning posters of the film and trampling them with their feet. Also demanded a ban on the release of the film.

People allege that the name of the film and its story present their society in a wrong way, which will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

Yadav community is being targeted through the film

The protesters say that the story and title of the film have been prepared to target the Yadav community. Due to this, a wrong image of the society is being created. Due to this resentment, people expressed their anger by burning posters publicly.

Cinema hall operators were warned that if the film was screened, the protests would intensify. At some places, a memorandum has been submitted to the administration demanding a ban on the release of the film.

The film ‘Yadav Ji Ki Love Story’ has been directed by Ankit Bhadana. This is a romantic thriller story. In this, actresses Pragati Tiwari and Vishal Mohan are in lead roles. Pragati plays the character of ‘Simple Yadav’, who is a quiet, homely girl. The love story of her and a young man named Wasim Akhtar is shown in the film.

This film is going to be released on 27 February 2026.

The Supreme Court on Thursday sought clarification from Netflix and filmmaker Neeraj Pandey on the title ‘Ghooskhor Pandit’ and asked them to tell the court that they are proposing to give it a new name, the court spoke without any hesitation. The court said that such names are often chosen for publicity so that there is controversy. This comment came during the hearing, when the bench insisted on giving a clear answer within a few hours.

Supreme Court reprimands the producer of ‘Ghooshkhor Pundit’
Justice B.V. Nagarathna’s bench strongly reprimanded the producer of ‘Ghushkhor Pandit’ and said – it is wrong to insult any class. There is already so much rift in the society. Don’t encourage it. The court issued a notice and said that you have said about changing the name, tell us what name you are going to keep? Also tell whether there is anything objectionable about any class in your film or not?

Netflix had asked the High Court to change the title
Earlier on Tuesday, Delhi High Court had heard a petition demanding a ban on the release and streaming of Netflix’s film ‘Ghooskhor Pandit’. It has been argued in the petition that the title of the film and its proposed content are defamatory and communally objectionable. During the hearing, Netflix told the court that the makers are ready to change the name of the film. The platform assured the bench that the title would be changed. He also said that all the promotional material related to the film has already been removed from social media. After this, the court resolved the matter.

The court had said that now there is no reason to give any further order on this petition. Netflix and makers agreed to change the name of the film. On this basis, the court considered the matter settled and rejected the petition to stop the release of ‘Ghooskhor Pandit’.

Why did the controversy start regarding the bribe taking Pandit?
Soon after the teaser of ‘Ghooshkhor Pandat’ was released during the ‘Next on Netflix’ event, it got embroiled in controversy. Ashutosh Dubey, a Mumbai-based lawyer, sent a legal notice to Netflix and the filmmakers objecting to the title. The word pandit (priest, religious scholar) has been used interchangeably with ghuskhor (a word used for those who take bribes). The notice claims that this mail is derogatory and an attack on the dignity of the ‘Pandit community’.

The notice demands immediate removal of the title ‘Ghushkhor Pandit’, calling it defamatory, unconstitutional and socially provocative. It has been argued that the makers could have chosen a neutral or fictional title instead of a title associated with a community. It further states that freedom of expression does not mean that any community should be insulted or defamed in the guise of satire, fiction or entertainment, especially when the harm caused can be estimated.

‘‘Bribery Pandit’ Case registered against in Lucknow
On the instructions of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, an FIR has been registered against the director and team members of the Netflix film ‘Ghooskhor Pandit’ at Hazratganj Police Station in Lucknow. It has been alleged in the complaint that the content of the film has hurt the sentiments of the people and disturbed the social harmony, after which the local authorities have taken action.

Officials said the film’s content was considered objectionable by some sections of the public, raising the possibility of unrest or hurting sentiments. Hazratganj Police itself has taken cognizance and registered a case against the film’s director and his team and started investigation.

‘‘Bribery Pandit’ The film maker issued a statement
Amidst the controversy, ‘Maker of ‘Ghushkhor Pandat’ Neeraj Pandey issued a statement and explained his motive behind the film. In his statement, Neeraj Pandey wrote, “Our film is a fictional cop drama, and the word ‘Pandat’ is used only as a colloquial name for a fictional character. The story focuses on the actions and decisions of one person and does not comment on or represent any caste, religion or community. As a filmmaker, I approach my work with a deep responsibility to tell stories that Be considerate and respectful.”

After the controversy, Pandey told that the team has decided to stop all promotions. They wrote in the note, “Given these concerns, we have decided to remove all promotional materials for the time being, as we believe that the film should be fully experienced and understood in the context of the story we wanted to tell, and not be judged based on incomplete parts. We look forward to sharing the film with audiences soon.”

Meanwhile, the Film Makers Combine issued a notice soon after the announcement of the project, and its teaser was released at an event in Mumbai earlier this week. The organization claimed that the makers had not taken necessary approvals for the title, as required under industry norms.
