This is a bipartisan proposal, which is expected to get the support of both Democrats and Republicans. According to the information released by the American side, under this law, the American President will have the right to increase the import duty on all goods and services coming from Russia to America by at least 500 percent. Not only this, this provision will also apply to those countries which knowingly trade Russia’s petroleum and uranium products.

Why can India come under target?

Since the start of the Ukraine war, India has been among the major countries buying Russian crude oil at concessional rates. America considers this as indirect support to Russia’s economy. For this reason, President Trump has already imposed an additional 25 percent tariff on India, taking the total duty to 50 percent. Now, if the new law comes into force, America can get the right to impose tariffs up to 500 percent on goods and services coming from India.

Lula da silva brics statement: The threats of US President Donald Trump regarding the tariff have been given a befitting reply by Brazilian President Luiz Eneasio Lula Dr. Silva. He bluntly said that the world has changed and now no one needs the emperor. Lula made this statement during the BRICS summit on Monday.

Lula’s statement came after Trump’s warning in which he said that the countries which support the anti -American policies of the BRICS will be imposed an additional import duty (tariff) on them, but the BRICS countries have completely rejected Trump’s allegation.

Under this, the US has imposed heavy tariffs on 14 countries including Japan, South Korea, Malaysia and Bangladesh. Trump said in December 2024 that America will not sit silent if BRICS tries to leave the dollar. He said, “If BRICS countries bring another currency instead of dollars, we will impose 100 percent tariffs on it. Such countries should give up the dream of selling our goods in America.”

Actually, BRICS countries are planning to create a currency that reduces dependence on US dollars. Trump did not like this. He believes that doing so will weaken America’s economy and strength.

President of Brazil furious over Trump’s tariff statement

Reacting to Trump’s tariff warning, Lula said, “The world has changed. We do not want any emperor. It is a group of countries (BRICS) who wants to find an alternative way to organize the world from an economic point of view. I think that is why BRICS is making many people uncomfortable.”

What did South Africa-China say?

South Africa and China have given restrained and balanced reactions in this case. The two countries termed the role of BRICS as creative and said that its purpose is not to promote global cooperation against anyone.

South African President Cyril Ramfosa said that the purpose of BRICS is not to compete with any global power. He said, “BRICS is not an alliance against any country. Our aim is to promote global cooperation. We also expect a trade agreement with America.”

China also objected

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning, while commenting on Trump’s statements during a press conference in Beijing, said, “Tariff should not be used as pressure or political weapon. The purpose of BRICs is to promote ‘Win-Win Cooperation’, not to target any country.” He also reiterated that China is in favor of open and balanced global business.

Trump new tarfiis: The trade war has started once again. As part of his magnitude to create pressure, President Donald Trump has announced a new tariff over business partnership countries from Japan exporting US to South Korea. These rates have been kept from 25 percent to 40 percent, which will be implemented from next month i.e. August 1.

Confirming this on Monday, President Trump said that letters have been sent to many countries and warned that if business agreements are not done by August 1, new rates of increased customs will be implemented.

New pressure on business countries

The first letter was sent to Japan and South Korea. After that the same notice has been sent to other 12 countries, including- South Africa, Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, Laos, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Bosnia, Serbia, Kazakhstan and Tunisia.

He said that the deal with Britain, China and Vietnam has already been approved and is close to the final agreement with India. Trump said that some other countries have not shown much interest in this trade deal, so they have been sent notice without any conversation.

How much tariff is on which countries

Among the 14 countries that Trump has announced a new tariff, 25 percent of tariffs can be placed on Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Kazakhstan and Tunisia. South Africa will be put on 30 percent, Laos and Myanmar 40 percent, Indonesia 32 percent, Bangladesh 35 percent, Thailand and Cambodia 36 percent, Bosnia and Herzegovina 30 percent tariffs will be imposed.

Trump has threatened that if these countries impose retaliation, then the US will again increase the tariff accordingly. Trump’s move has once again created new uncertainty in front of markets, policy makers and businessmen. All this is happening at a time when they are already struggling with the challenges of inflation, global slow economic speed and supply chain.

Significantly, on April 2 this year, President Trump announced a heavy tariff on the countries around the world for the first time. But later, applying a brake on him, he was given three months’ time and kept the base rate of 10 percent tariff. This was to be implemented on 9 July, but now Trump has announced to implement it from 1 August.
