Gold and silver have once again entered a bullish phase. This week, gold reached the level of Rs 1,25,999 per 10 grams, while silver with December expiry strengthened to Rs 1,63,849 per kg. Experts believe that apart from investment, industrial demand is also playing an important role behind this rally, because the use of silver is increasing rapidly in industries like solar panels, electronics and battery manufacturing. After the strictness on Digital Gold by SEBI, there has been a huge decline in the purchase of digital gold in October 2025. According to the report, purchases of digital gold declined by 61% in October, which is the lowest level this year. If we talk about the amount of investment, the value of digital gold purchased in October was only Rs 550 crore, whereas in September it was Rs 1,410 crore. The average investment this year is around Rs 951 crore. The special thing is that despite the Diwali and wedding season in the month of October, there was a decline in the purchase of gold, mainly due to the rising prices of Digital Gold and the new rules of SEBI. Most purchases of digital gold are made through UPI Apps. The number of transactions also declined from 10 crore in August-September to only 2.1 crore in October, showing a decline of almost 80%. SEBI regulations do not govern the purchase of physical gold against digital gold, but some risks remain for investors. Inflows into Gold ETFs have cooled down slightly in October 2025. According to AMFI’s monthly data, inflows fell by 7% to ₹7,743 crore while in September 2025 this figure is a record-breaking ₹8,363 crore. But experts say this decline is a pause and not a trend. But the surprising thing is that this entire segment is not under the control of SEBI or any regulatory body. SEBI has clarified that digital gold or e-Gold is neither a security nor a commodity derivative. That means if there is default or fraud on any platform, investors will not get any protection. This is why questions are now being raised among investors about the security of digital gold. However, there are many regulated and safe options for investing in gold — such as Gold ETFs (Exchange Traded Funds), Electronic Gold Receipts (EGRs) and Exchange-Traded Commodity Derivative Contracts. All of them operate under SEBI regulations and investments in them can be made through SEBI-registered intermediaries. So be careful before investing, and make sure your money is invested in the right place.
