The government has two ways
In the current situation, the government has two options: either it can put the entire burden on the public by increasing the prices of petrol and diesel, or it can take the entire burden on itself by reducing taxes. Although at present the government has not said anything like this, still there is a lot of tension in the minds of the public due to the continuous increase in the prices of crude oil.

There is pressure on oil companies also
If anyone is under more pressure than the public at this time, it is the oil companies, because the cost of oil has the biggest impact on the government oil companies. Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) – Government companies like Bharat Petroleum Company Limited (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum (HPCL) are sometimes not able to increase prices immediately due to political and social reasons. Due to which pressure falls on them and companies suffer losses.

According to government data, by June 2026, the total under-recovery of these companies had reached Rs 2.19 lakh crore. This means that companies continued to sell fuel below cost for a long time. Now, if a similar situation arises again, the pressure on oil companies will increase again.

Prices had increased in May
The war between Iran and the US was going on since February, but the government reduced taxes till April and did not let the pressure of rising prices come on the people. But when pressure increased on the government and oil companies, the government decided to increase the prices of petrol and diesel. The prices of petrol and diesel increased 4 times in the month of May. If once again the prices of crude oil exceed Rs 100 per barrel, the government and oil companies will once again come under pressure. Then the government will be left with only two options. Now it has to be seen whether the government puts the burden on the public in advance or manages the situation for some time.

Withholding Tax: Amid rising inflation in India, the government and RBI are planning to promote foreign investment in the country. For this, the government is preparing to make changes in the withholding tax by simplifying the tax system. If reports are to be believed, the government is planning to end it. If this happens, investors, companies and those earning money from abroad can directly benefit from it.

Government’s concern regarding withholding tax
According to the report of The Indian Express, discussions have been going on for the last few weeks to abolish withholding tax. Policy makers want to take these steps to save foreign exchange reserves and keep foreign accounts safe amid the ongoing tension in the Middle East. The government and RBI are worried because foreign exchange reserves are declining rapidly and there is also selling by foreign investors. India’s foreign exchange reserves have decreased by about $38 billion in the last two months.

So far in the year 2026, foreign portfolio investors have withdrawn about $22.5 billion from Indian markets. A huge weakness has also been seen in the rupee. Since the start of the war, the rupee has fallen by about 5% against the dollar. In such a situation, the government is justified in worrying.

What is withholding tax?
Withholding tax is tax that is deducted before any payment is made. Like TDS on bank interest, tax deduction on earnings from abroad and tax on dividend or royalty payments. This is called withholding tax. Which in simple language means that the government deducts its share before getting the money. The government wants to end it so that the tax system can be simplified, foreign investment can be increased, the cost of doing business can be reduced and companies and investors can get more cash.

Who will benefit?

• Companies will immediately be left with more money, which will enable them to invest and expand.

Promotion of work from home and public transport

Video conferencing based meetings will be given priority in government departments, so that unnecessary travel and fuel consumption can be reduced. The private sector will also be encouraged to adopt work from home. Also, common people will be motivated to use public transport more and more.

The state government has decided to celebrate ‘No Vehicle Day’ once a week. On this day, government officials and common citizens will minimize the use of private vehicles. It has also been decided to halve the number of vehicles in the vehicle fleet of the Chief Minister and Ministers. Apart from this, officers who have more than one department have been instructed to use a maximum of one vehicle in a day. Emphasis will also be laid on limited use of air conditioners in government and private buildings.

Campaigns like ‘My India, My Contribution’ will be run

Public awareness campaigns like ‘Mera Bharat, Mera Contribution’ will be run in the state. Under ‘Made in State’, local products will be promoted and strict adherence to ‘Make in India’ rules will be ensured in government procurement. Citizens will also be made aware to limit the purchase of gold for one year.

The government will make the common people aware about the benefits of less oil food. The use of oil in schools, hospitals and government canteens will be reviewed and efforts will be made to reduce it. Hotels, dhabas and street food vendors will be motivated to adopt ‘low-oil menu’.

Promote natural farming and clean energy

Farmers will be given training in natural farming, zero budget farming and bio-inputs. Awareness regarding balanced use of fertilizers and soil health will be increased. In the area of ​​clean energy, PNG (Piped Natural Gas) connections will be increased in mission mode. Preference will be given to the use of PNG in hotels, restaurants and government residences. Rooftop solar will be promoted under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana, while instructions have been given to the Panchayat and Rural Development Department for the expansion of cow dung gas plants.

Apart from this, to speed up the approval process of mining, solar and power projects, a high level committee constituted under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary will approve the proposals within 60 days. LPG Shortage: There is a shortage of LPG gas for the last several days, due to which the government has also taken a big decision. Under this decision, now the industries running in the states will get LPG within the limit. For which the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has also instructed the states to limit the supply of gas for industrial use.

The government has taken this step with the aim of removing the problems related to the supply of LPG. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has directed states to allocate 70% of non-domestic LPG to other sectors, along with limiting the supply to industrial users. Apart from this, the government has also launched another scheme keeping the reforms in mind, under which additional 10% allocation of LPG will be given to the states that are actively promoting alternative fuels like PNG.

Industrial supplies will be limited
One of the main reasons for giving this instruction is to control industrial consumption. Many sectors like pharma, processing food, steel, glass, ceramics, packaging and chemicals will now be given only 70% of the pre-March 2026 bulk LPG consumption level. Additionally, this supply is capped at 0.2 metric tons per day, effectively limiting the total quantity available to industries. This decision of the government will have a greater impact on those industries which are completely dependent on LPG.

These companies will get LPG first
After this decision of the government, first of all LPG will be given to those factories or companies where natural gas cannot be used. Along with this, companies will have to register with OMCS i.e. oil companies and will have to apply to urban gas distribution companies for PNG connection. After this decision, those states will benefit more which will promote the connection of PNG gas.

This is important news for medical candidates. The National Medical Commission (NMC) has stated the possibility of adding about 8000 new seats for MBBS and PG courses in the year 2025. According to media reports, Dr. Abhijeet Shet, chairperson of NMC, said that the inspection work of medical colleges is going on fast and these additional seats will be made available soon. In such a situation, this can be a great opportunity for the candidates preparing for NEET-UG or PG.

When will counseling be held?
According to NMC, about 8000 seats can be increased in medical UG and PG. The counseling process of NEET UG 2025 has started and the first round has been completed. Now the second round is likely to start from August 25.

PG counseling is likely to start from September as medical colleges are being inspected. So if you are waiting for counseling then be ready, because the increase in seats will increase the chances of selection.

How many seats are there in India?

Currently there are more than 1 lakh medical seats in the country. A total of 1,18,098 seats in MBBS, of which 59,782 are in government colleges and 58,316 in private colleges. A total of 53,960 seats in PG, of which 30,029 are from government and 23,931 private colleges. This year, some UG seats were reduced due to the CBI investigation, but NMC says that the number of seats may increase to 8,000 or more after the completion of the inspection.

Why CBI investigation was done

In July, the CBI had registered a case of corruption and rules violation on the Ministry of Health NMC officials and some private medical colleges, due to which the process of starting new courses and increasing seats was stopped, although NMC has now accelerated the speed of inspection, according to NMC Chairman Dr. Abhijeet Shet, according to NMC Chairman Dr. Abhijeet Shet, about 8,000 new seats will be added soon. This news is a big relief for those students who were worried about the possibility of lower seats.

Changes in medical education
