After the anti-Gen-Z protests in Nepal, the country’s prison system has completely collapsed. According to the Prison Management Department, after the violent protests on September 9, more than 13,000 prisoners escaped from different jails across the country, including a large number of foreign nationals.

According to government data, 540 Indian citizens who were serving sentences for various crimes are now absconding. Apart from these, 108 other foreign prisoners are also reported missing. The government has issued a high alert across the country and security agencies have been instructed to capture these prisoners.

More than 5,000 Nepali prisoners also abscond in Nepal

According to the data released by the Nepal government, more than 5,000 Nepalese citizens are among the prisoners who escaped from jails. The incident occurred during the Gen Z movement on September 8 and 9 when thousands of youth staged violent protests against the government in Kathmandu and other cities.
