China has condemned the award of the Grammy Award to the Dalai Lama on Monday (February 2, 2026). China has said that it strongly opposes the Tibetan spiritual leader using this honor to carry out anti-China activities.

Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatso on Sunday won the first-ever Grammy Award in the Best Audio Book, Storytelling and Storytelling Recording category for his spoken-word album, ‘Meditations: The Reflections of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’ at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.

According to PTI report, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian, after giving the award to the Dalai Lama, said that the spiritual leader is carrying out separatist activities in the name of religion. Lin Jian said that the Dalai Lama is not a purely religious person.

He said, ‘He is a political exile, who is committed to anti-China separatist activities under the guise of religion.’ He said that Beijing will not tolerate that the concerned party uses this award as a weapon to carry out anti-China activities.

The Dalai Lama has been living in exile in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh since leaving Tibet in 1959. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989 for his sustained, non-violent struggle to liberate Tibet.

He said, ‘I strongly believe that peace, compassion, care for the environment and an understanding of the oneness of humanity are essential for the collective well-being of all eight billion people.’ The Dalai Lama said, ‘I am grateful that this Grammy honor can help spread these messages widely.’
