Central Election Committee meeting

Top leaders of the Congress had discussed the names of possible candidates for the Bihar Assembly elections in the party’s Central Election Committee meeting on Tuesday (14 October 2025). Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, All India Congress Committee Organization General Secretary K.C. Venugopal and party treasurer Ajay Maken were present in the meeting. Rahul Gandhi attended the Central Election Committee (CEC) meeting digitally.

Congress’s performance in 2020 assembly elections

According to the PTI report, sources said that first the party discussed the names of more than 50 candidates for the assembly seats on which the party can contest the elections. However, now Congress is preparing to field its candidates on 60 seats. Congress contested 70 seats in the 2020 assembly elections and won 19 seats. Assembly elections in Bihar will be held in two phases on November 6 and 11. Counting of votes will take place on November 14. The opposition alliance led by RJD will make efforts to remove the ruling NDA from power.

There is a possibility that seat sharing in the Grand Alliance may be announced on Tuesday (October 14, 2025). First understand the formula of seats in the Grand Alliance

Now RJD is in talks especially with VIP’s Mukesh Sahni. Left parties can get 30 seats. It has been considered to give 15 seats for VIP, two seats for JMM and one seat for IIP. RJD itself will contest on 135 seats.

Whereas Chirag’s party has been given 29 seats. Jitan Ram Manjhi’s party HAM and Upendra Kushwaha have got six seats. The question is that if Mukesh Sahni joins NDA, which party will sacrifice seats? Political expert Dhirendra Kumar said that Mukesh Sahni suddenly planned to go to Delhi. A lot was revealed from his language before leaving. Now it depends on Mukesh Sahni whether he remains in the grand alliance or not. There will be no offer from the Grand Alliance on these terms. Is the way open in NDA? On this he said that it is difficult to say. I think the path to NDA is now closed for Mukesh Sahni, but politics is a game of possibilities. Maybe some option will open up. If the option opens, it will be difficult to get six seats. Be it Grand Alliance or NDA, Mukesh Sahni is no longer in a position to make demands.

What did Mukesh Sahni’s party say?

On the other hand, a big leader of VIP party said that the seats are being reduced because of Akhilesh Singh (Congress leader). They are filling Lalu Yadav’s ears. Pressure is being put on RJD that if more seats are given to VIPs then after winning they can go with BJP and form the government. On the question whether there is a possibility of joining NDA? Lalu, Rabri and Tejashwi Yadav will leave for Delhi

JMM gave ultimatum till October 15

Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has also demanded its share in Bihar. The party has said that if seat distribution is not decided by October 15, it will release the list of its candidates. JMM has claimed 12 seats in Bihar, which are adjacent to the border of Jharkhand. These include Tarapur, Katoria, Manihari, Jhajha, Banka, Thakurganj, Rupauli, Rampur, Banmankhi, Jamalpur, Peerpainti and Chakai. JMM says that it had given seven seats to RJD in Jharkhand assembly elections, hence it wants respect in the same proportion in Bihar also.

VIP chief Mukesh Sahni’s resentment increased

Mukesh Sahni, head of Grand Alliance’s ally Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) is also angry. He wrote on social media that on November 14, he will form a government where every section will get respect and rights. There was no mention of the Grand Alliance government in his post, which has intensified political speculation. According to sources, Mukesh Sahni has demanded 30 seats and has also laid claim to the post of Deputy CM. Due to this, the problems of the top leadership of the alliance have increased further.

Congress said – the alliance is strong

Congress spokesperson Pawan Kheda said in Ranchi that the alliance in Bihar is strong and RJD, Congress and JMM will contest the elections together. Taking aim at BJP, he said that Home Minister Amit Shah is incompetent and useless and BJP is doing politics of infiltration by diverting the people from the real issues. Kheda also reacted on the Waqf Bill and said that any decision should be taken only after talking to all the parties.

Bihar Assembly Election 2025: Tejashwi Yadav will be the CM face of the Grand Alliance in 2025, the Congress has accepted. Karghar’s Congress MLA Santosh Mishra made this clear on Wednesday (April 16). He also said that there is no question of fighting less than 70 seats, but if there is a grand alliance, two-four seats are here and there, so there is not much problem. However, they will fight in so many (70) seats.
