Today, on 2 October 2025, the festival of Dussehra is being celebrated with great pomp across the country. It is celebrated as the victory of good over evil. On Dussehra, an effigy of Ravana is symbolically burnt.

Ravana Dahan is organized on the occasion of Dussehra in many parts of the country. This evening after 06:05, the Muhurta of Ravana Dahan will also start. The effigy of Meghnath and Kumbhakarna is also burnt with Ravana.

But there are many places across the country where Ravana is considered to be God, not a villain and worshiped. Therefore, Ravana Dahan is also not done in these places.

Bisarkh village located near Greater Noida in Delhi-NCR is considered the birthplace of Ravana. It is also mentioned in the Ramayana that the ashram of Ravana’s father Rishi Vishwashrava was here.

There are also many temples of Ravana in this village, where yajna and peace are performed especially on the occasion of Dussehra. Therefore, people here do not organize Ravana combustion.

Even today, the villagers of Bisarkh village consider Ravana as Mahabrahman and start worshiping for the peace of Ravana’s soul as soon as Navratri starts. People here believe that, burning Ravana seems like a sinful sin.
