GST 2.0: Shopping has intensified in the festive season after the GST rate cuts. In emerging markets and metros, demand has seen an increase of 23 to 25 percent. Under the GST reform implemented from 22 September 2025, tax slabs on big screen TVs, furniture and medium range fashion products have been reduced. This led to a decrease in prices and consumers directly benefited.

major impact:

GST on big TV was reduced from 28% to 18%, declining prices by 6-8% and increased demand for premium model.
Fashion, priced below Rs 2,500, is now only 5% GST, which led to a boom in sales.
The demand for furniture also increased significantly.

According to Redseer’s report, the first two days sales have increased by 23-25% on an annual basis. The demand for GST 2.0 improvement and festive season together brought out the sales of premium smartphones and TV to a record level.

Effect on e-commerce:

The demand was so high that some apps were slow and crashed while giving orders. Amazon set a record of more than 38 crore customers in the first two days, out of which more than 70% of the customers were out of the top 9 metros. Flipkart also recorded 21% more users in the first 48 hours than last year.

Amazon India Vice President Saurabh Srivastava said that “GST Savings Utsav” received a great response and in just 48 hours, GST benefits worth crores of rupees were delivered to customers. Significantly, efforts to increase domestic demand and GST reform have been announced at a time when India’s economic speed remains above six percent.

On the other hand, the pressure on India is also increasing globally. The US has not only imposed a base tariff 25 percent but has also applied an additional 25 percent penalty tariff due to purchasing oil from Russia. This step has been taken by the Trump administration in an attempt to stop Ukraine War. In this way, on the one hand the government is promoting domestic consumption and festive purchases through GST reforms, on the other hand, India is facing American tariff on the international front.

GST 2.0 Consumer Rights: From September 22, new GST Reforms (GST 2.0) have been implemented by the Indian government. There are now only two GST slabs under these new systems. One is 5% and the other 18%. Now 12% and 18% slab has been abolished. The purpose of this reform is to make tax easier and provide monthly savings on household goods. However, after this an important question arises whether the companies will bring this profit to the consumers? Or they can eliminate GST cuts by increasing prices. Let’s know

Can companies eliminate GST cuts?

Actually, companies can increase prices to maintain profit margin. After this, the expected benefit of GST cuts will be over. With this, companies have the freedom to fix their prices. Not only this, for small items, sometimes companies change the quantity instead of the price. This gives less benefits to the consumer.

Government measures

To prevent all these problems, the government has implemented strict monitoring and enforcement mechanisms. In fact, under the Consumer Protection Act 2019, the Central Consumer Authority can check the price violation on its initiative or based on the complaint of any consumer. Along with this, the Central Board of Indirect Tax and Custom has also ordered to monitor the prices of 54 essential commodities for 6 months.

Not only this, companies have been allowed to use a sticker with revised prices with original MRP by 31 December 2025 for old stocks. Along with this, field verification will be done to ensure whether GST tax cuts are reaching consumers or not to ensure that GST network and Ministry of Consumer Affairs using it.

How to complain for not getting the benefit of GST

If you find that a company is not giving the benefit of the cut in GST, then you can complain about it. To complain, you can directly contact the National Consumer Helpline at toll free number 1915 or 1800114000 available in 17 languages. Apart from this, you can also file a complaint through the National Consumer Helpline website or Umang App.

GST portal can be used for complaints related to tax. Tax pair can find a solution by giving your GSTIN, mobile number and details of the problem.

Lpg cylinder price: After the recent meeting of GST Council, many important changes were made in GST rates. Due to this, many things used in everyday life will become cheaper such as shampoos, soaps, baby products, health drinks, etc. Now the question in the minds of people is whether the price of LPG cylinders will also decrease after the new rates are implemented after 22 September? Since LPG is usually used extensively for cooking in our country. In such a situation, the impact of the decrease in its prices can affect people in the number of crores. In addition, commercial LPG is used from hotels, restaurants and other business objectives. In such a situation, people are eagerly waiting to know whether these will also be cheap.

Will LPG cylinder be cheaper?

Since domestic and commercial LPG cylinders are different, they currently have different rates of GST. Currently, 5 percent GST is charged on domestic cylinders, while 18 percent GST is imposed on commercial cylinders. In the GST Council meeting held on September 3, there was no change in GST rates on the domestic use LPG cylinder used for cooking in the kitchen of common people. That is, 5 percent (2.5 percent CGST + 2.5 percent SGST) will be charged on these as before. Currently, the price of 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder in Delhi is Rs 853. At the same time, 18 percent GST will be imposed on commercial use cylinders as before.

GST on Health Insurance Premium: In the 56th meeting of GST Council, 18 percent GST on the premium of health and life insurance policy has been removed. That is, no GST will be imposed on health and life insurance now. It was being demanded for a long time. This hoped people that it would be cheaper to take insurance by removing 18 percent GST on premium.

However, a recent new report has destroyed this expectation of the people. In a new report by Kotak Institutional Equities Research, it has been reported that insurance companies are thinking of increasing their tariff to 5 percent to compensate for the loss due to input tax credit. This can increase the premium rather than decreasing.

Companies will balance increased expenses

It has been said in the report that increasing the tariff will help companies compensate for the loss of input tax credit. Let us know that earlier insurance companies used to take advantage of the input tax credit (ITC) on their operational costs on commission, reintegration and advertisements of agents. Now due to the removal of GST, companies will not be able to claim ITC. This will increase their expenses, which they will have to resort to tariffs to balance. That is, the policy rates will be increased.

Let us tell you that in GST system, insurance companies are given a special facility. Under this, the tax paid on the expenditure on operation, it could have been reduced from GST taken from customers. After this, the government had to deposit the tax left. That is, due to ITC, companies did not have much tax burden, but if there is no GST, then how will the balance be accounted for. To balance this, companies can increase the premium rates so that they are reduced or not.

Demand will increase the policy of policy

However, the report also states that its demand will increase due to the insurance premium 12-15 percent with the GST rate cut. However, what will be the benefit of relief in GST due to increasing premium! The discount on insurance premium is scheduled to come into force from September 22, 2025.

According to the report of Kotak Institutional Equity, Star Health can increase its tariff by 1-3 percent after the exemption on GST and ITC benefits are over. On the other hand, Niva Bupa can increase it up to about 4 percent. In this way, the impact of the GST rate cut on the insurance policy will be found to be negligible to the policyholders.

The central government has improved GST rates, due to which people have received a big gift before Diwali. It is going to be a little easier for people to buy a car and motorcycle, because after the GST cut, the prices of both are getting a decline.

Under the new GST reforms, scooters and bikes up to 350cc have become cheap, while bikes above 350cc will become expensive.

GST 2.0: Taking a big step towards speeding up the country’s economy, the central government has made a big change in GST. Earlier, four slabs were kept in GST 1.0, but now it has been reduced to only two slabs. This new structure will be applicable from 22 September 2025. However, the state governments have expressed concern about their revenue loss about this change.

According to the government estimate, there may be a loss of about Rs 48,000 crore annually based on the consumption pattern of 2023-24. Revenue Secretary Arvind Srivastava said in a statement to news agency IANS that the central government may have to bear such a burden.

What do brokerage firms say on loss?

Brokerage firms believe that the actual loss will not be so large, as GST improvement can increase demand. According to Jafaries estimates, in FY 2026, this deficit can be reduced between 22,000 and 24,000 crore rupees. The firm argues that tax cuts may reduce inflation and in such a situation, the Reserve Bank can cut interest rates from 25 to 50 basis points.

Experts of Bransstein say that if the government does not cut capital expenditure, then this deficit can increase to about 20 basis points of the Union Budget. But if capital expenses are cut by 5 percent, then this effect will be reduced to only 5 basis points.

Impact on market

According to UTI AMC, the impact of this change on the bond market and stock market will be limited. At the same time, the ICRA welcomed the government’s move and said that this improvement will prove to be positive for industries struggling with the pressure of American high tariffs and will strengthen the market notion.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman held a press conference on Wednesday (03 September) after the 56th meeting of the GST Council. In this, he announced to reduce the GST from 12% on 33 life saving medicines, giving great relief to the patients. These drugs include medicines of many serious diseases including cancer. Apart from this, GST has been zero with 5 % on three other life saving medicines. Also, GST has been given 5 % from 12 % on other medicines. Let’s know how much will you save from this?

Relief on these medicines

The GST Council zero GST from 12% on 33 drugs. These drugs are mainly used in the treatment of cancer, rare genetic disorder, autoimmune disease and other serious diseases. Among them, agalSidase beta, immiglucease, eptacog alfa activated recombinant coagulation factor viia, onasemnoegene abparvovec, asciminib, mepoolizumab, pegylated liposomal irinotecocan, dartumumab, Daratumumab subcutaneous, tecclistamab, amivantamab, alectinib, risdiplam, obinutzumab, polatuzumab vedotin, entrectinib, atezolizumab, sphesolimab, velagluacese alpaha, agalsidase alpaha, agalsidase alpaha, etc. Rurioctocog alpha pegol, Idursulphatase, alglucosidase Alfa, Laronidase, Olipudase Alfa, Tepotinib, Avelumab, Emicizumab, Belumosudil, Miglustat, Velmanasese ALFA, alfa, alfa, alfa, Evolocumab, Cystamine Bitartrate, CI-Inhibitor Injection and Inclisiran. Adi medicines are included.

These cancer medicines become cheap

At the same time, daratumumab (for multiple myeloma), alectinib (lung cancer), obinutzumab (blood cancer), polatuzumab vedotin (lymphoma), entrectinib (solid tumor), atezolizumab (lung and bladder cancer), tepotinib (lung cancer) and awelumab (lung cancer) Cancer) GST has also been cut. Also, GST has also been zero on rare diseases such as Gauchar Disease Alpha (velaglucese alpha), pompe disease (alglucosidase Alfa) and hemicizumab. Also, GST on three drugs agalsidase beta, immiglucease and eptacog Alfa was zero from 5%. The Finance Minister said that these drugs are imported and expensive. GST deduction will increase their reach. Let us know that every year 14 lakh new cases of cancer occur in India. Patients will get a lot of relief due to decrease in GST on these medicines.

Which medicine will be cheap?

The GST deduction will directly affect the monthly bill of patients. We calculate some major cancer drug market values (without an estimated base price without GST) how much you will save now.

Daratumumab (for multiple myeloma cancer): It comes in injection form. The base price of its monthly dose (about 4 vial) is two lakh rupees. Earlier, according to 12 % GST, it was taxed at 24 thousand, due to which this medicine used to be 2.24 lakhs.

Alexiab (for lung cancer): The monthly pack of this drug coming in the capsule form comes from 60 capsules, whose base price is Rs 1.50 lakh. It used to cost Rs 1.68 lakh, including 12 % GST, which will now save.

Osimertinib (for lung cancer): The monthly pack (30 tablet) of this 80mg tablet had to spend about Rs 1.51 lakh with 12 % GST. Now there will be a savings of Rs 16,200 every month. It is the first-line treatment for patients with EGFR mutations.

How much will be saved?

If a cancer patient is dependent on one or more of these medicines, then there is a hope of savings of 15 thousand to 50 thousand rupees in their monthly bill. On average, these 33 drugs are expected to save from 10 to 20 % every month, as some medicines are already subsidized.

A historic decision was taken at the 56th GST Council meeting, under which 12% and 28% tax slab has been abolished. Now only two slabs – 5% and 18% will remain. On this matter, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that this change will bring relief for common families, farmers, businesses and health sector. He called it the GST improvement of the next generation and the gift of Diwali for the country.

Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP P Chidambaram has reacted to the government’s decision. He welcomed it, but also criticized strictly. He wrote on X (East Twitter) that rationalizing GST and decreasing rates on many things and services has been welcome, but this decision has been taken with a delay of 8 years. This existing form and tax slab should not have been implemented from the beginning. We were constantly warning while in opposition, but our arguments were ignored.

The GST Rationalization and the Reduction in Rates on a range of goods and services are welcome but 8 years too late

The current design of gst and the rates previving until today

We have been crying hoorse for the last 8…

P Chidambaram raised questions
Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP P Chidambaram questioned why this reform was still done. He speculated the political and economic reasons behind this. He questioned whether this decision has been taken under the pressure of sluggish economic development, increasing domestic debt, decreasing savings, upcoming Bihar elections or American tariffs. All these factors can be forced to force the government.
TMC surrounds the government
The All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) also attacked the central government and called this decision a victory for the public. The TMC said that taxing the insurance premium was cruel and anti -people. Mamta Banerjee opposed this from the beginning. However, this decision proves that the BJP government listens only when it is under pressure. The TMC warned that it will continue to fight against every such anti -people decision between Parliament, Road and the public.

Economic and political impact
Cutting in GST rates will provide relief to consumers and reduce the cost of living. The industry will get a chance to increase sales and production. There will also be pressure on the government that further decisions should be taken in time and transparent manner.

GST couricil meeting: A two -day meeting of the GST Council has started from Wednesday under the chairmanship of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and big announcements can be made on Thursday. It is believed that this meeting will be an important step towards implementing the GST reform announcement made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from the ramparts of the Red Fort.

The aim of the government is to provide a big relief package to the general public, middle class, small traders and farmers before Diwali through this meeting. That is why it has been called ahead of schedule.

Possible major decisions of GST meeting

1. Two slabs instead of four slabs

Currently, four tax slabs of 5%, 12%, 18% and 28% are applicable in GST. In the meeting, they are being considered to reduce only two slabs (5% and 18%).

2. Everyday things will be cheaper

Electronic items like TV, washing machine, fridge are currently in 28% GST slab. It is proposed to shift them to 18% slab, which will make these products cheap. There are plans to bring them to 5%, which are currently in 12% slabs like ghee, betel nut, water bottle, salty, medicines and medical equipment.

3. Luxury and harmful items will be expensive

However, while the common consumer will get relief on goods, tax can increase on luxury and harmful products. Premium cars and SUVs currently have 28% GST. It is proposed that they should be brought under the scope of tax of up to 40% under the new reform. If seen in this way, the government wants to give relief to the general public on the one hand, on the other hand, it will try to make revenue balance by increasing tax on luxury conference and harmful products.

On the other hand, the finance ministers of the opposition parties ruled the GST Council met each other before the meeting to be held on Wednesday and demanded compensation from the Central Government to compensate the revenue loss due to the proposed change in the GST rates. Finance ministers of Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and West Bengal participated in this meeting.

In this meeting held last week, these states discussed that if the slabs of 12% and 28% are removed and two slabs of only 5% and 18% are kept by simplifying the tax structure, then the income of the state governments could have a big impact. In such a situation, necessary steps need to be taken to protect their revenue.

The 56th meeting of GST Council is going to be held in New Delhi on 3 and 4 September. A day before this, there will be a meeting of officials on 2 September. However, earlier this meeting was to be held in late September or in early October. But after the statements of the states, this meeting is going to be held ahead of time. The government is trying to implement the new GST rate by Dussehra i.e. October 2.

According to reports, officials say that if everything is according to the plan, it will be implemented around Dussehra.

Fast track mode on GST

It is worth noting that a group of ministers met in Delhi on August 20 and 21, in which 12 percent and 18 percent GST rate was supported. State ministers involved in this meeting have agreed to the step of keeping the new rate 5 percent and 18 percent by changing the GST structure.

Significantly, PM Modi announced the GST reform during his speech on the occasion of 79th Independence Day from the ramparts of the Red Fort. He announced the Next Generation GST reform before Diwali, saying that this move of the government will reduce the tax burden on the common people. Along with this, he said that this will be a Diwali gift for all of you. During this time, he had said the purpose of GST reform to give public interest and the economy to give a new pace.
