The Supreme Court has refused to hear the petition filed against the suspension of the Facebook and Instagram handles of the Gujarat unit of Aam Aadmi Party. The bench of Justice MM Sundaresh said that the Chief Justice’s bench will hear this matter. The CJI himself had issued a notice on this petition in May.

Facebook-Insta accounts were blocked in April

The Facebook and Instagram accounts of the Gujarat unit of the Aam Aadmi Party were blocked in India in the last week of April 2026. Meta had taken this action citing the government’s legal notice and Section 79(3)(b) of the IT Act.

The AAP party had approached the Supreme Court terming the decision to close these accounts as unconstitutional and arbitrary and in May 2026, the Supreme Court had issued a notice to the Central Government and Meta on this petition and sought their response.

AAP accused BJP

Aam Aadmi Party has accused BJP of suspending its social media handle. In Gujarat, party state president Ishudan Gadhvi had released a video and made allegations against X. Besides, questions were also raised regarding the timing of suspending the page. Actually, the action on the account took place when preparations for the municipal election campaign were going on.

AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal retweeted and asked why BJP is so afraid of AAP. Kejriwal wrote, ‘Aam Aadmi Party’s social media FB and Insta pages were blocked in Gujarat. After all why? Why is BJP so scared?
