Bollywood actor Gulshan Devaiah impressed the audience with his tremendous acting in the role of villain in the film ‘Kantara Chapter 1’. In a recent interview with ‘Screen’, the actor took a dig at the growing trend of lead actors having beards and adopting an ultra-macho image like ‘Pushpa’. Gulshan also said that she finds this trend quite tiresome.

Why does every hero need a beard?
When asked if the line between hero and villain has blurred after lead actors like Ranbir Kapoor and Ranveer Singh played gray shades in Animal and Dhurandhar, Gulshan quipped, “I just have a problem with why everyone has a beard. Why does everyone need to have a beard? Everyone is becoming Pushpa. What’s the harm in being clean shaven? It’s just a trend.” Hyper-masculinity can be a trend sometimes, but after a while I get bored of it. I think Rishabh cast me in Kantara just staring at it and not blinking.

,My way of touching important things is different Is’
He further added, “I would have had a different way of touching on what was important from a story point of view. Also, since people love Atmaram (Guns & Roses, 2023) so much, I have to remind them again and again that he is not a good person. He may be cool and funny, but one should not get too excited about such characters. Thinking about killing children? Who does that? This has never bothered me. Didn’t bother me, but later I realized that he is not a good person at all.”

Gulshan played the role of King Kulashekhar in ‘Kantara Chapter 1’. His acting was greatly appreciated by both the critics and the audience and his character was appreciated. Directed by Rishabh Shetty, the film became a huge success at the box office and became the second highest-grossing Indian film of 2025, earning Rs 851 crore worldwide.
