Rohit Arya, who held 19 people including 17 children hostage in a studio in Mumbai, was shot by the police when the accused was about to aim the gun at one of the hostages. NDTV quoted sources as saying that after entering inside, he searched the entry gate and quietly reached the toilet attached to the studio. At the same time, Arya aimed at a hostage and tried to press the trigger, then Amol Waghmare opened fire on Arya to save the children. Arya became unconscious after being shot in the chest, however he later died.

Apart from the air gun, the police also recovered some chemicals from the studio, but did not give much information. All the hostages have been rescued safely. In a video released before the police action, Arya had explained her motive and claimed that instead of committing suicide, she planned to take the children hostage. When the conversation between the two escalated, Ibrahim shot Prashant in the chest with his pistol and everyone ran away. Injured Prashant was immediately admitted to the hospital, where his bullet was removed after surgery and his condition is said to be out of danger.

Police arrested 3 accused

Investigation has revealed that Prashant is accused of extorting Rs 5 lakh from the accused in return for not stopping their activities. Police have recovered a country-made pistol, a Swift car, three mobile phones and two empty cartridges from the accused. One accused Mohammad Hanif Qureshi is still absconding, the search for him is going on.
