Gyaneshwari Yadav Silver Medal: Gyaneshwari Yadav helped India win its 5th medal in the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. In the 53 kg weightlifting category, Dnyaneshwari won the silver medal by finishing second. He set his personal best and a new national record by lifting 199 kg.

23 year old Dnyaneshwari Yadav lifted a total weight of 199 kg (88kg snatch + 111kg clean and jerk). Nigeria’s Onome Omolola Didih won the gold medal with a total lift of 206 kg (93 kg snatch + 113 kg clean and jerk), while Canada’s Rebecca Groulx stood third, winning the bronze medal with 178 kg.

What did Dnyaneshwari Yadav say after the victory?

Talking to the media after the victory, Dnyaneshwari Yadav said, “I am very happy. This is my first Commonwealth Games. My first motive was to do my personal best, and I did the same. I had tried to bring gold for India, but the competition was very difficult. I did my personal best and took the silver medal, which I am very happy with.”

Regarding further preparation, he said, “The preparation was very good. We were training for this in Birmingham for a month. The preparation from there was very good and today the result came here.”

Further talking about weightlifter Mirabai Chanu’s gold, Dnyaneshwari said, “Yesterday, when Mira didi (Mirabai Chanu) won the gold, a different kind of excitement came from within.”
