American economist Dr. Dave Bratt has alleged large-scale fraud in the H-1B visa system. He claimed in a podcast that a district in India has secured more than double the total number of visas legally approved in the US. This comment of Bratt has created an uproar in America.

Speaking on Steve Bannon’s War Room podcast, Brat said the H-1B system has been taken over by fraud on an industrial scale. He stressed that visa allocation from India has reached a level that violates statutory limits.

Indians got more H-1B visas than China
Bratt said, “71 percent of H-1B visas come from India and only 12 percent from China. This clearly shows that something is wrong there.” He further said, “There is a limit of only 85,000 H-1B visas, yet Chennai, a district in India, got 2,20,000 visas. This is 2.5 times more than the limit set by Congress. This clearly means that this is a scam.”

‘They are taking away your house’
Brat has presented this issue as a direct threat to American workers. He said that when one of them comes and claims that he has skill and this is not skill, then this is fraud. “They are taking away your family’s job, your house, your everything.”

Nearly 220,000 H-1B visas issued in 2024
According to reports, the US Consulate in Chennai has processed approximately 220,000 H-1B visas and an additional 140,000 H-4 dependent visas in 2024. The Consulate handles applications from four major regions: Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and Telangana, making it one of the busiest H-1B processing centers in the world. These claims highlight afresh the allegations of Indian-origin American Foreign Service officer Mahvash Siddiqui. In an interview, Siddiqui had described the H-1B system as full of fake documents and proxy applicants. Siddiqui had worked in the Chennai Consulate about two decades ago.

However, America’s Homeland Security Department will also be able to give exemption in any matter in view of the national interest. H-1B visa is being misused- Trump administration

The Trump administration claims that the H-1B visa has been misused for a long time. The purpose of starting this program was that such high-skilled foreign employees come to America who are lacking there, but the reality is that the big IT outsourcing firms used this system to remove American employees and keep cheap foreign workers, the situation deteriorated so much that many reports revealed that American workers were forced to even train their own foreign replacement.

US government figures show that the H-1B workers’ stake in the IT sector was 32 percent in 2003, which has now increased to more than 65 percent. Due to this, unemployment has increased among American youth. Especially computer science and engineering graduates are facing the most problems, where unemployment rate has reached 6 to 7.5 percent, which is doubled compared to many other areas.

Big shock for Indian IT companies
This decision is very important in terms of India. Actually, Indians have the biggest stake in H-1B visa holders. Every year thousands of Indian engineers, software developers and tech professionals reach America through this visa. This is also a major setback for Indian IT companies. Companies like TCS, Infosys, Wipro and Cognizant have been sending Indian employees on a large scale on H-1B. For them, this new rule can affect the entire business model, because Bulk Hiring will now become very expensive.

What does Trump say
President Trump has linked the move to the security of American jobs and national security. He says that the misuse of H-1B is damaging the salary structure of the American technology sector and discouraging American youth from adopting science and technology career. This is the reason why they have forced companies to make this visa expensive and difficult to give priority to American workers first.

Big warning for Indians

Overall, it is clear that now it will be more difficult to get H-1B visa in America. This decision is also a shock for India and a warning.
