While a Washington Journal report said that the group leaked the personal information of more than 2,000 US Marine soldiers, a report by local Arab news website Shafaq.com, giving the exact numbers, said that a hacker group named Handala (Hanjala) has leaked the personal data of 2,379 US Marine soldiers deployed in West Asia. The report said that the group has also issued threats to American soldiers deployed in the area.

American soldiers also threatened on WhatsApp

According to Shafaq.com report, the group published the names and personal details of US Marines deployed in West Asia on its Telegram channel and said that it did this as a demonstration of its surveillance capabilities. According to the report, American soldiers deployed in the area also received warnings through WhatsApp messages that they were being monitored and could be targeted.

The group has also claimed that it has more information about American personnel, including information about their families, home addresses, their daily routines and activities. Threatened that more information could be leaked later.
