Air pollution in New Delhi has once again crossed critical levels. On Thursday (November 20), the AQI of the capital was recorded at 535, which directly falls in the dangerous category. This means that the air is so bad that it can have an immediate impact on health. The amount of dangerous particles like PM2.5 and PM10 is continuously increasing. PM 2.5 was 343 and PM10 reached 464. This situation is when GRAP-4 is already implemented in Delhi. Despite this, there is no improvement in the air.

Smog increased the problem in the morning and evening

The situation worsens most in the morning and evening in the capital and NCR. Due to low temperature and slow wind, the smoke gets stuck at the bottom and people start facing problems like heaviness, burning sensation in the eyes and difficulty in breathing.

Even traveling on the roads becomes difficult. In many areas people said that visibility was not clear even a few meters away. In such a situation, it is clear that at present there is no hope of improvement in the air.

While on one hand the air has become poisonous, on the other hand the weather is also taking a turn. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of light to moderate fog on Thursday (November 20). Due to this, visibility may be reduced, which will further increase the problems of road users. Today the minimum temperature is expected to be around 11 degrees and the maximum is expected to be around 27 degrees.

On Wednesday, the minimum temperature of Delhi was recorded at 10.2 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature was 28.3 degrees, which is slightly higher than normal.

Health challenges facing people increased

Doctors say that this type of air is extremely dangerous for children, elderly and pregnant women. It is better to wear a mask while going out, protect your eyes and stay indoors as much as possible. Although many steps have been taken by the government, at present there are no signs of improvement in the air.

The residents of the capital Delhi are not going to get respite from the poisonous air even on Sunday. According to Pollution Control, AQI was recorded at 551 in the early morning, which is still in the Hazards category. The main reason for this is the presence of poisonous particles in PM2.5 and PM10 particles in the air. The wind speed is very slow, due to which the situation is worsening. In one estimate, it is considered to be smoking 12 cigarettes which is very harmful for the lungs.

According to the Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature is continuing to fall, due to which the minimum temperature is expected to be 11 and maximum 24 degrees Celsius. Apart from this, there will be effect of mist and fog in the morning and evening, due to which visibility will be affected.

AQI no improvement in PM10 at dangerous level

The average AQI of Delhi in the last 24 hours was 386 which was in the severe category, whereas it has deteriorated to 551 on Sunday morning. The main reason for this is the level of PM2.5 reaching 351 and PM10 reaching 466. According to the data of Pollution Control Board, AQI is above 400 in areas like Wazirpur, Bawana, Mundka Anand Bihar and Rohini of Delhi.

Let us tell you that last week on November 11, AQI had reached 428, which was the first ‘severe’ day of 2025. The average AQI so far in November has been 150, which is slightly 8.3% better than previous years, but is still in dangerous condition as per the standards.

Drop in temperature – cold and fog hit

According to the forecast of the Meteorological Department, there will be fog on Sunday morning, while the temperature will reach minimum 11 and maximum 24 degrees Celsius. The wind will blow at 5 to 6 km per hour, due to which air pollution is not reducing yet. The situation is expected to remain the same for the next three to four days.

On the other hand, due to western disturbance, fog and clouds are increasing in North India. There will be less sunlight in Delhi.

GRP-3 is currently in effect

Grape-3 is currently implemented in the capital Delhi, despite this the air condition is not improving. Therefore, it can be implemented in the next few days. Delhi government has also advised people to use only public transport.
