HDFC Bank Fine News: HDFC Bank, one of the largest private banks in the country, has imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh each on its three senior officers. This includes the bank’s CEO Shashidhar Jagadishan, CFO Srinivasan Vaidyanathan and Group Head Arvind Vohra. This decision has been taken after an internal investigation into an old case related to Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation.

What did the investigation reveal?

Actually, the bank had got the deposit arrangements made with MSRDC in the years 2017 and 2021. This matter has been investigated by a special committee of independent directors. The investigation found no evidence of ill intentions, personal gain or dishonesty against any officer. However, the committee observed that some officers had acted beyond the rules and limits of the bank.

CEO-CFO fined with warning

In view of this, the board of the bank decided to issue a warning letter to the CEO, CFO and Group Head and impose a fine of Rs 1 lakh each. Whereas the rest of the staff involved in this matter have been given only warning letters. The bank also made it clear that information about the entire matter will be sent to the Reserve Bank of India.

Let us tell you that in May 2026, it was claimed in some media reports that HDFC Bank had paid about Rs 45 crore to obtain large deposits from MSRDC. These expenses were shown as marketing spend. It was also said in the reports that the CEO of the bank was aware of these payments. But at that time HDFC Bank had denied all the allegations and said that the bank has a strong audit and control system and all the decisions have been taken as per the fixed rules.

Effect visible on shares also

Earlier, the old chairman of the bank Atanu Chakraborty had made allegations of dishonesty and wrong functioning. It was also honestly investigated by outside experts, but even then no strong evidence was found to prove the allegations true. As soon as this news came, the shares of HDFC Bank fell slightly and closed at Rs 740 in the stock market. If we look at the last one month, the bank’s shares have fallen by about 7.34%.
