Fish & Milk Myth: Is drinking milk prohibited in your house after eating fish? If yes then you are not alone. In most Indian homes it is forbidden to drink milk after fish. Since ancient times, this food combination has been considered extremely harmful for health. It is believed that eating fish and milk together causes white spots on the skin, while some people associate this food combination with problems like gas and indigestion. How much truth is there in this belief or is it just a superstition? Let us know….

What is white spot?

Vitiligo is a skin disease, in which the color of some parts of the skin gradually starts turning white. This problem arises when the melanin producing cells in the skin called melanocytes get destroyed for some reason or stop working properly. This disease can occur at any age and can appear on any part of the body. This disease is a result of fungal infection or destruction of pigment producing cells called melanocytes, the condition cannot be caused by the combination of fish and milk alone.

Belief spread about fish and milk

Fish and milk are considered “counter foods” in Ayurveda and folk traditions. That is, such food whose consumption together has been said to be harmful for the body. On this basis, this belief has been prevalent for generations that eating both together can cause skin diseases, especially white spots. This belief is so deeply rooted that people accept it as true without any proof.

What do experts say?

According to dermatologists, no solid scientific evidence has emerged till date that consumption of fish and milk together causes white spots. According to experts, the main cause of vitiligo is an autoimmune disorder, in which the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks its own melanocyte cells. Apart from this, genetic factors and environmental elements also play a role in this disease. In any authentic research conducted so far, no direct relation has been proven between the combined consumption of fish-milk and vitiligo.

What does Ayurveda say?

According to Ayurveda, milk has a cooling effect which provides coolness to the body. Whereas the nature of fish is hot and it maintains warmth in the body. In such a situation, if fish and milk are taken together, there may be problems related to digestion. Taking fish and milk together can upset the digestive system.

Medical Facts: We have all been hearing since childhood that ‘8 glasses of water is necessary’ or ‘BMI normal means you are healthy …’ But have you ever thought that these things that we are told to different people again and again, they are actually how true. Actually, there are many such things in the world of medical science that we accept the truth by closing our eyes, but the reality is something else. Some things rest on half the incomplete truth and some are completely wrong. Today we are going to tell you about such famous health facts, which are not true at all …

Myth. Belt is the right way to measure waist

Fact: It is believed that taking measurements near the belt to measure the waist is perfect. But the real and right way is to measure the waist near the navel. The belt is often below the waist, so that the abdominal fat is not known properly. It is the same fat that is associated with problems like heart disease and fatty liver. Men’s waist should be less than 37 inches and women should be less than 31.5 inches.

Myth. Liver test normal came means everything is fine

Fact: It is believed that if the liver test report is in the lab’s ‘normal’ range, then there is no tension but the truth is that many times the report seems normal, but the liver is being affected inside. For example, there is a liver enzyme named AST. Lab can consider up to 40 as normal, but nowadays doctors recommend keeping below 25, so that diseases like fatty liver can be avoided.

Myth: BMI is the measure of real health

Fact: It is believed that if BMI is normal then health is good but the truth is that BMI only calculates weight and length, but it does not show whether your body has more fat or muscles. Many times people who are very fit, their BMI high comes because muscles are more. At the same time, someone’s BMI is correct, but fat is hidden inside.

Myth: Less than 200 triglyceride means no tension

Fact: It is believed that if the triglyceride level of triglyceride is less than 200 mg/DL, then it is not a matter of worry but it is not completely true. Nowadays doctors recommend that it should be kept less than 150 mg/dl and Ideally 100. It is important to pay attention to this.

Myth: It is necessary to drink 8 glasses of water every day

Fact: It is believed that every person should drink 8 glasses of water every day, but the truth is that every person should drink as much water as he needs. It depends on his body, weather and work. When thirsty, drink water and take care that the color of urine is lighter. This is the best way to stay hydrated.
