What to do during heart attack: Heart disease still remains the biggest cause of death...

What to do during heart attack: Heart disease still remains the biggest cause of death in the world. In the year 2022, about 2 crore people died due to heart related diseases, mostly due to heart attack and stroke. Even in a developed country like America, every year lakhs of people lose their lives due to heart disease. These figures show how common heart attacks are and why it is important to take timely action. Recently, Dr. Christabel Akinola shared a post on Instagram, in which she mentioned a person who recognized the symptoms of a heart attack and immediately took appropriate steps and saved his life. The doctor told what the person did that saved his life and why these steps were necessary.

What should be done in case of a sudden heart attack?

First of all call emergency services. If you are experiencing heart attack symptoms, call emergency services immediately and tell the dispatcher that you are in this situation. Place the phone on speaker so that both your hands are free and you can follow the guidance. Clearly mention your location, allergies and medication information. Do not try to drive yourself to the hospital, allow the ambulance to arrive so that treatment can be started immediately.

If you are conscious and not allergic to aspirin, chew one non-coated aspirin (about 300 mg). By chewing it, the medicine works quickly. Many studies have found that taking aspirin immediately after the initial symptoms of a heart attack reduces the risk of death by about 25 percent.

What did the expert say?

Dr. Akinola also warned on social media about Viral Cough CPR, taking a deep breath and coughing vigorously. He said that this technology can be useful in some cases only during medical monitoring, but using it alone at home can be dangerous. If you feel symptoms of a heart attack, do not experiment on yourself, rather seek help immediately. If you are feeling dizzy or weak, lie down and raise your legs slightly and place them on some support. This improves blood flow and can provide some relief, although it is not a cure but a temporary support.

Try to keep yourself calm during this time. Fear and nervousness increase heart rate and blood pressure, which can worsen the situation. Take deep breaths, sit or lie down, loosen your clothes and talk to someone, this will reduce the pressure on the heart. If you live alone at home, then make some preparations in advance. Always keep your phone close, close the door from inside so that people can reach quickly if needed, and keep a list of medicines and allergies nearby so that doctors can get the information.

most important things

The first 10 minutes are most important during a heart attack. If you are alone and take these steps at the right time, then the chances of saving your life increase manifold. The biggest cure is timely action.

Heart Blockage Symptoms: Whenever we talk about heart, the first thought that comes to mind is chest pain. But sometimes people feel pain or heaviness in the left hand along with it or before it. This pain may be mild, pressure-like, tingling or numbness-like. This symptom does not come just like that, rather it is an important signal from the body that something serious is happening. If you recognize it in time, you can save your life. Let us tell you about it.

Why does pain occur in the left hand?

When the heart muscle does not get enough oxygen because of blockage in the coronary arteries, the heart sends pain signals. The nerves of the heart and the left hand go to the brain through the same path. Because of this, the brain is unable to identify the source of the real pain and considers it to be pain coming from the left hand. This is called referred pain. The heart and the nerves of the left hand are mainly connected to the spinal nerves called T1 to T4. When there is a lack of oxygen in the heart, the pain message through these nerves spreads to the entire left side, especially to the shoulder, arm and jaw.

Why is pain felt more on the left side?

The heart is slightly inclined towards the left side of the body, hence the effect of blockage or lack of oxygen in the heart muscle is felt more on that side. If there is blockage in the Left Anterior Descending (LAD) arteries of the heart, then this pain is felt directly on the left side. Doctors also call these window maker arteries, because complete blockage in them can be fatal.

When to understand that this pain is a sign of heart attack?

Every time the pain in the left hand is not a heart attack, but if this pain lasts for more than a few minutes, feels like pressure or burning and does not go away even after resting, then you need to be alert. If this pain is accompanied by heaviness in the chest, shortness of breath, pain in the jaw, nausea or sweating, then seek medical help immediately. About one out of every four people has unusual symptoms during a heart attack. That is, they do not have chest pain, but pain in the left arm can be the only symptom.

Rising Heart Attack Trends: Heart related diseases are increasing rapidly in India. High blood pressure, cholesterol and stressful lifestyle have made people’s heart health the biggest threat. Experts say that if people still do not pay attention to their diet and lifestyle, then the cases of heart attacks may increase further in the coming years. It is important to recognize body signals in time and get regular checkups done so that this silent danger can be avoided.

Why are heart attack cases increasing in India?

Heart disease has become the biggest cause of death in India. Between 2014 and 2019, there has been an increase of about 50 percent in heart attack cases in the country. Urbanization, changing lifestyle, poor diet, stress, smoking and diseases like diabetes are the main reasons for this. Experts believe that this problem is not limited to health only, but it is also affecting the country’s economy, stability of families and working life.

Why does heart attack happen?

Heart attack occurs when blood flow in the blood arteries leading to the heart stops due to a clot or blockage. Due to this, oxygen does not reach the heart muscles and within some time the cells start dying. If timely treatment is not received, it can prove fatal. According to T. Suman Kumar, cardiologist at Srimatha Heart Clinic, Vijayawada, “Most heart attacks, strokes and heart failure do not occur suddenly, but their risk factors are already present in our body, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, obesity and smoking.”

Four big dangers hidden in the body

According to doctors, most people do not have their first heart attack suddenly, but there are some silent risk factors hidden behind it, such as:

high blood pressure – Prolonged increased blood pressure damages the walls of the arteries.

cholesterol – Increased LDL cholesterol in the blood forms fatty deposits in the arteries, which obstructs blood flow.

blood sugar or diabetes– Increased sugar weakens the blood cells and increases the risk of heart disease manifold.

smoking – Tobacco damages both the heart and arteries.

All these factors affect gradually, but symptoms appear when the danger has increased. Therefore regular checkup is necessary.

How to reduce the risk of heart attack?

The good thing is that most of these risks can be controlled. The risk of heart attack can be reduced significantly by eating right, regular exercise and medical checkup. For this, you need to make some improvements in your diet, such as including fruits, green vegetables, whole grains and healthy fats in it. Apart from this, do exercise, in which walk or yoga for at least 30 minutes daily. Quit smoking as far as possible. Stopping tobacco consumption immediately reduces the risk of heart disease. Most strokes and heart attacks occur because people do not monitor their health. If timely diagnosis is made, doctors can start treatment at an early stage. Especially people above 30 years of age or those with a family history of heart disease should get themselves checked regularly.

First signal of heart attack: We have often heard that heart attack can be identified...

First signal of heart attack: We have often heard that heart attack can be identified by sudden severe chest pain. Most of the people also consider heart attack like a drama incident shown in films, in which a person puts his hand on the chest while writhing. But cardiologists say that its initial warnings are often very mild and worth ignoring. Pramod Kumar, cardiologist, Fortis, New Delhi, says that feeling constant fatigue, such fatigue which does not go away even after taking rest, can be an early sign of pressure on the heart.

When the heart becomes weak, it is not able to pump as much blood as the body needs. As a result, oxygen reaches the organs in less quantity and the body has to work harder. This is the reason why a person feels tired or lethargic all the time. Dr. Pramod Kumar says that “fatigue that cannot be explained by sleep, diet or stress can be the heart’s first SOS signal.”

most overlooked signs

Most people associate fatigue with aging, long working hours or lack of sleep. But if fatigue persists despite getting enough sleep, it could be a sign of a heart problem. Due to swelling and lack of oxygen, the body’s energy gets depleted, due to which the person always feels tired. Dr. Pramod Kumar explains that because fatigue is a common symptom, people do not associate it with heart disease. But if fatigue is accompanied by slight shortness of breath, indigestion, dizziness or pain in the jaw, then it can be a sign of a heart problem.

What is a silent heart attack?

Silent heart attack occurs when blood flow to the heart muscles reduces or stops. It is called “silent” because it does not show any symptoms like severe chest pain. Its signs may be something like this-

mild fatigue

Nausea

pain in jaw

shoulder pain

heartburn

Even though it is “silent”, it causes as much damage to the heart as a normal heart attack. Dr. Pramod Kumar says that silent heart attacks are more dangerous because patients do not reach the doctor on time. By the time they go to the hospital, the heart has suffered severe damage.

Which people are at greater risk?

Men and women may experience different symptoms. Severe chest pain is common in men, whereas women have more problems like back pain, fatigue, nausea or breathlessness. The elderly and post-menopausal women are more at risk because their symptoms are mild and often go unnoticed. Dr. Pramod Kumar says that “Many women bear the entire heart attack thinking it to be just stress or acidity. This delay can even cost them their lives.”

when to see a doctor

If your fatigue persists for weeks and you also feel shortness of breath, swelling in your legs or irregular heartbeat, then it is important to consult a doctor immediately. Timely early tests like ECG, echocardiogram and blood pressure check can avert major risks.
Symptoms of Heart Attack: Heart attack cases have increased rapidly in the last few years. Many such videos are seen on social media and media, in which a person is sitting, eating, playing, dancing and suddenly gets a heart attack. Many times a person dies due to not getting timely treatment. In such a situation, the question comes in our mind that does heart attack come suddenly? Doesn’t our body give any warning about this in advance? If you also have such questions in your mind, then let us tell you what signs appear in our body before a heart attack, which if we understand, can save life.

What signals does the body give in advance?

According to the American Heart Association, the body may show several warning signs hours or days before a heart attack. These include chest discomfort, pain spreading to other parts of the body, difficulty in breathing and sudden sweating. Mayo Clinic reports that the most common sign of a heart attack is pressure or heaviness in the chest. This pain can sometimes spread to the left arm, back, neck, jaw or even teeth. Apart from this, sudden cold sweat, nausea and dizziness are also warning signs. Apart from this, it has been said in many other reports that many patients feel abnormal fatigue before heart attack. Especially women often complain of excessive weakness and fatigue without any particular reason. If we talk about normal symptoms, they include pain or heaviness in the chest, cold sweat and nausea, dizziness, spreading pain and weakness, difficulty in breathing and unusual fatigue.

Why do heart attacks occur?

Now we come to the question why heart attack occurs. The simple answer is that a heart attack occurs when the coronary arteries that supply blood to the heart muscle stop due to blockage. Blockage is usually caused by cholesterol layers, fatty deposits and clots. Due to stoppage of blood flow, the heart does not get oxygen and heart attack occurs. If we talk about prevention, then to prevent this, a healthy lifestyle should be adopted, for this health checkup should be done on a routine basis. Apart from this you should quit smoking and alcohol. Due to these, heart attack is triggered the most.

Light is very important in the lives of all of us. Sunlight gives us energy...

Light is very important in the lives of all of us. Sunlight gives us energy during the day, and as soon as evening comes, we light up our homes. The light from above, the lamp in the room, the glowing screen of the TV and the blue light of the mobile all together make the night as bright as day. There are so many lights on the roads that real darkness can hardly be seen anymore. But do you know that this constant light can take a toll on your heart health.

Recently, a study published in JAMA Network has revealed that exposure to excessive light at night has a negative impact on heart health. It not only disturbs your sleep but also the entire circadian rhythm of the body and has a direct impact on your heart. In such a situation, today let us tell you what work you can do with the lights on in the house in the evening so that you will never have a heart attack.

What was revealed in the study?

Researchers said that when we come in contact with bright light at night. Be it the light in the room, the brightness of the mobile screen or the street light outside, our body gets confused. The body senses that it is daytime, and goes into a state of wakefulness. Due to this our hormones and sleep patterns get disturbed. Due to this disturbance, blood pressure in the body increases, heart rate increases, and reactions like inflammation begin. If this happens for a long time, the risk of serious problems like heart diseases, heart attack and stroke increases.

The results of this study were shocking. People who lived in the most light at night. Like sleeping with bright lights in the room or using the phone late at night. They were found to have 32 percent higher risk of coronary artery disease, 56 percent higher risk of heart attack, and 30 percent higher risk of stroke. And the special thing is that these risks remained even when the researchers took into account other things such as exercise, diet, genetic factors and sleeping habits, that is, only night light was becoming a big risk for the heart.

What work can you do with lights so you will never have a heart attack?
If you want your heart to remain healthy for a long time, now is the time to dim the night light. According to experts, dim the lights in the house after sunset, put thick curtains or black out curtains so that outside light cannot enter, stop looking at mobile, TV or laptop screen at least an hour before sleeping, use light yellow or warm light in the bedroom and avoid bright white light.

During the day, we mostly do not need to switch on the lights in the...

During the day, we mostly do not need to switch on the lights in the house because the sunlight is so bright that all our work can be done comfortably in that light. However, as soon as evening comes, everyone turns on the lights of their houses. Along with this, the street lights on the roads also start burning.

But a recent study has revealed that as the evening approaches, we should turn off or dim all the lights in our homes. Failure to do so causes huge harm to our health, especially our heart. Due to this, the risk of having heart problems increases significantly. In such a situation, let us know the reason behind this.

What does the study tell?

According to a study published in JAMA Network, keeping bright lights on in the house at night can seriously damage your heart health. Keeping the house lights on at night has a negative impact on the circadian rhythm. Circadian rhythm is important for many things including our sleep and hormone regulation. In such a situation, when the internal processes of the body get disrupted, heart health also deteriorates. Bright light affects this rhythmic process of the body and creates disturbance in it, due to which the person faces problems like psychological confusion, high BP and irregular heartbeat.

How much danger is there to the heart?

The risk of heart problems increases significantly due to exposure to bright light at night. In such a situation, exposure to bright light increases the risk of coronary artery disease by 32%, the risk of heart attack by 56% and the risk of heart stroke by 30%. The effect of night lights is so bad on our body that even after daily exercise, healthy diet and good sleep, this risk does not reduce.

How to protect?

In such a situation, to take care of your heart and keep it healthy, you should take utmost care of dimming the lights of your house after the evening and blocking the light coming from outside by drawing curtains. Apart from this, you can keep your heart fit and healthy by not using the phone at bed time. In this way your heart will remain fit and you will also remain healthy.
