Why Heart Attacks Are Rising In Indians: Heart attacks always happen only to those people who already have clear warning signs. This perception now seems to be changing. Recently, an Indian study has shown that many patients who were earlier considered low-risk are also becoming victims of heart attacks. In this study conducted under the leadership of Dr. Mohit Dayal Gupta at GB Pant, Delhi, data of more than 5,000 patients was analyzed. It was found that about 80 percent of the people who had a heart attack for the first time were not previously placed in the high-risk category.

Risk not identified in Indian

Global risk calculators are commonly used by doctors to help decide who needs treatment or medication. But this study revealed that these models are not able to correctly identify the risks of Indian patients. According to different models, only 11 percent to 20 percent of the patients were considered high-risk, while all of them later had a heart attack.

What do experts say?

According to Dr. Gupta, the pattern of Indian patients is different from that of western countries. There heart disease usually occurs at an older age, whereas in India it is seen at a younger age. The average age of the patients in the study was found to be only 54 years, which indicates that heart disease is now affecting us more quickly than before. Research also revealed that a special South Asian phenotype is seen in Indians. Despite being of normal weight, there is a risk of diabetes and insulin resistance. Apart from this, the pattern of cholesterol is also different, HDL is low and triglycerides are high, whereas LDL is not always high.

Read this also – Side Effects Of Birth Control Pills: Do pregnancy prevention medicines cause cancer, know how true is this?

Danger also increases due to these things

Many people have hidden fat around the stomach, which is not captured by BMI. Along with this, smoking, mental stress and other traditional risk factors also increase the risk. The problem is that most global models give more importance to age and LDL, which underestimates the risk of young Indians. Many patients fall into the “intermediate risk” category, where treatment is often postponed.

Additionally, these models do not include some important factors, such as insulin resistance, lipoprotein (a), ApoB, central obesity and chronic kidney disease. This is the reason why the real danger remains hidden and treatment starts only when the situation has become serious. After this study, experts have emphasized the need to develop a separate risk calculator for India.

Why Arteries Age Faster In Your 30s: Earlier heart related diseases were generally considered to be a problem of increasing age. It was believed that the risk of blockage in arteries or heart attack increases only after the age of 50 or 60. But now this picture is slowly changing. According to doctors, nowadays signs of aging in the arteries have started appearing in many people around the age of 30. Let us tell you why this happens.

Why does such a problem occur?

Arteries work to transport blood from the heart to other organs in the body. Generally they are flexible and soft, due to which blood keeps flowing easily. But when they gradually become hard, the blood flow starts getting affected. This causes the heart to work harder to pump blood, which can further increase the risk of heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular problems.

What do experts say

According to Dr. Mukesh Goyal, cardiothoracic and vascular surgery expert of Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, cases of hardening of arteries at an early age are being seen increasing in the last few years. He says that earlier such problems were usually seen at the age of 50 or 60, but now due to changing lifestyle, its signs have started appearing even at the age of 30.

Changing lifestyle is a big reason

Experts believe that modern lifestyle is the main reason behind this. Working while sitting for a long time, stressful work environment, irregular sleep and excessive consumption of processed food can gradually affect the blood vessels. Apart from this, smoking, obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes and poor eating habits also increase the risk of early aging of the arteries. Many times this problem does not appear as any major symptom initially. Still, there may be some signs which need to be paid attention to. Such as continuously increasing cholesterol, even slight increase in blood pressure, feeling tired quickly or shortness of breath with little effort. If there is a history of heart disease in the family, the risk may increase further.

How can we protect ourselves?

For this reason, doctors now recommend getting heart health checked at an early age. Early changes in the arteries can be detected through cholesterol testing, blood pressure monitoring, blood sugar testing and other tests if necessary. The good thing is that this process can be slowed down by making changes in life in the initial stage. Walking or exercising for some time every day, eating a diet rich in fruits, vegetables and whole grains, reducing salt and processed foods, staying away from smoking and getting enough sleep are considered beneficial for the health of the heart and arteries.
