As winter approaches, complaints of joint pain increase. Especially the problem of frozen shoulder is more common. This is a condition in which there is severe pain and stiffness in the shoulder. It becomes difficult to move the shoulder. Doctors say that this problem bothers more in cold weather. Its risk is highest in women and patients with heart disease. Let us tell you about it in detail.

What is frozen shoulder?

Frozen shoulder is called adhesive capsulitis in medical term. In this, the membrane surrounding the shoulder joint becomes thick and hard, due to which the joint becomes swollen and movement is reduced. This problem is seen in 3 to 5 percent of normal people, but in diabetes or heart patients this problem reaches 10 to 20 percent.

Why are there more problems in winter?

The main reason for increase in cases of frozen shoulder in winter is cold. Actually, in cold the muscles shrink and blood circulation in the joints reduces. This increases pain and increases stiffness. People move less to avoid cold, due to which the problem becomes more serious.

What are the symptoms of this disease?

The problem of frozen shoulder starts gradually. First there is mild pain in the shoulder, then stiffness increases. The pain is worse at night and one cannot sleep. It becomes difficult to raise the shoulder, move it back or rotate it. There is a lot of pain even in daily activities like changing clothes, combing hair or lifting something.

Why are women and heart patients at greater risk?

According to Dr. Vaishya, Senior Consultant Orthopedics and Joint Replacement Surgery at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, Delhi, this problem occurs mostly in the age group of 40 to 60 years. It is seen more in women than in men. This may cause hormonal changes and less activity. The risk is also higher in patients with heart disease, because cardiovascular problems affect the joints. This problem is 5 to 10 times more common in patients with diabetes.

How is it treated?

In most cases, frozen shoulder is cured with medicines, physiotherapy and exercise. Pain medicines, warm compresses and light stretching help. In severe cases injection or surgery is required.

These tips come in handy

Keep shoulders warm in winter. Use a scarf or shawl.

Do light exercises every day, like rolling your shoulders or climbing a wall.

Keep diabetes and heart disease under control.

Do not stay in one position for too long.

Take bath with hot water and take hot compress.

Nowadays everyone wants to have a peaceful sleep at night after a busy life and tiredness of the day. A good sleep not only gives rest to the body but also helps in keeping our brain, heart and digestive system healthy. But do you know that the position in which you sleep can have a profound impact on your health. Especially for heart patients, the sleeping pattern is very important because if you sleep in the wrong position, it can increase blood circulation, breathing speed, stomach digestion and even pressure on the heart, which can lead to serious conditions like heart attack. In such a situation, let us tell you today which position in sleep is considered most dangerous for the heart and how a small mistake made in sleep can cause a heart attack.

How does wrong sleeping position cause heart attack?

When you sleep, your body goes from Active Mode to Relax Mode. During this time, the heartbeat slows down a bit, and the blood pressure of the body may also become lower than normal. This is a normal process, but if someone already has heart disease, then this change can be dangerous for him. The risk of slow heart rate, low blood pressure, difficulty in breathing, shortness of breath and pressure on the heart increases during deep sleep.

While walking throughout the day, water accumulates in the body, especially in the legs. But when we lie down, this fluid starts moving upwards, i.e. towards the lungs and heart. This can fill the lungs with water, causing difficulty in breathing and putting more pressure on the heart. This is the reason why many heart failure patients complain of sleep disturbance or suffocation at night.

Which sleeping position is most dangerous for the heart?

According to some research, sleeping on the left side i.e. left position is considered most dangerous for the heart. Sleeping on the left side can increase pressure on the heart, especially in patients with heart failure, this can make the heartbeats feel faster, however, it is beneficial for pregnant women and digestive diseases. But sleeping in this manner can cause back and neck pain, acidity and gas problems, difficulty in breathing and snoring, symptoms of sleep apnea, extra pressure on the heart, poor sleep and fatigue. Sleeping on the right side i.e. in the right position is considered safest for the heart. This puts less pressure on the heart, keeps heart rate and blood pressure stable and is also better for patients who have survived a heart attack.

Good sleep is very important for both body and mind. It not only relieves fatigue but also brings back energy, increases immunity, makes the brain sharp, balances hormone and keeps the most important heart healthy. Research suggests that lack of sleep or poor quality sleep increases the risk of heart diseases.

Sleep and heart health relationship

A study of 2018 found that less sleep and frequent sleep breakage, both increase heart diseases and the risk of death. Poor sleep causes inflammation (swelling), metabolic disturbances and nervous systems in the body, which affects the heart.

Wright gold gold

Left gold reduces acidity and acid reflux. Since acid reflux increases the risk of heart diseases, this position can be beneficial for heart patients. But some studies say that gold on the left side changes the heart position slightly and the ECG may affect. For people who already have a heart problem, it can sometimes increase trouble.

Left side gold

According to many research and healthline, gold is considered more safe for people with heart failure. In this position, the pressure on the heart is less and ECG also remains stable. If someone’s body is installed in ICD (implantable Cardoverter Defibrillator), then they find sleeping on the side of that side. Most of the ICD is applied on the left side, so such people find it better to sleep right.

Sleeping on the back

Sleeping on the back is not considered good for heart patients. By doing this, the airway can be blocked and sleep apnea can increase. This causes oxygen level to fall and can have a serious effect on the heart. A recent 2025 study suggests that those who sleep on the back have more positional obstructive sleep apnea, which increases heart risk.

Sleeping on the stomach

Sleeping on the stomach is not directly related to heart disease, but it can cause difficulty in breathing and pressure on the spine. This worsens the quality of sleep and can have an indirect effect on heart health for a long time. Based on research, it can be said that gold is considered to be the safest and comfortable for heart patients. However, every person’s medical condition is different, so it is necessary to consult a doctor before adopting any position.
