Doctors Explain Dangerous Effects Of Heatwave On Body: The increasing heat and heatwave in many parts of the country is now having a serious impact on people’s health. The number of such patients in hospitals is increasing rapidly who are facing headaches, dizziness, eye irritation and neurological problems due to strong sunlight, dehydration and extreme heat. Doctors say that staying in heat for a long time can upset the body’s balance and this condition can sometimes prove fatal.

What is the problem with excessive heat?

These days, cases of problems related to dehydration are continuously coming to light in the hospitals of Delhi-NCR. Especially the risk of this disease is seen to be higher in children, elderly people and people already suffering from some disease. According to Dr. Sushila Kataria, Vice Chairman of the Department of Internal Medicine at Medanta Hospital, Gurugram, there is a limit to the body’s ability to control temperature. When the heat exceeds that limit, there is a deficiency of water and salt in the body. He told that the initial symptoms of heat exhaustion include headache, muscle cramps, nausea and weakness. If timely treatment is not received, it can turn into heat stroke, which can affect the brain and kidneys.

What can you do to avoid this?

Dr. Kataria said that one should avoid going out unless necessary between 10 am and 5 pm. Water, coconut water and ORS are the best options to keep the body hydrated. At the same time, drinks like tea and coffee can further increase water deficiency in the body. He also advised people to wear loose, cotton and light colored clothes. Along with this, people suffering from lung, heart and kidney diseases were asked to consult a doctor regularly during the change in weather.

Never ignore these problems

According to experts, if a person experiences problems like continuous confusion, difficulty in speaking, extreme lethargy, fainting or seizures, then it should not be ignored. These may be signs of a serious neurological emergency and may require immediate medical attention. Doctors also say that people often ignore eye health in summer, while extreme heat and sunlight can increase the risk of eye irritation and infection. Apart from this, symptoms like dizziness, severe fatigue, vomiting, feeling of excessive heat in the body, fast heartbeat and muscle cramps can also be signs of heat stroke.

Body Parts In Danger From Heat: Every year the increasing heat has been troubling people living in cities as well as villages. From somewhere news comes that deaths are taking place due to heat. But have you ever wondered which body parts get damaged due to excessive heat? Let us know about them.

These body parts are at risk from severe heat

This much heat has a very bad effect on many parts of the body. Due to which there is a fear of their getting spoiled. These are some parts of the body which are at greater risk.

The heat attacks first. When body temperature increases, blood starts moving from the brain to the skin to cool it, which causes dizziness, fainting and confusion.

The danger of rising heat also looms over the heart. To keep the body cool the heart has to pump faster. This increases severe stress on the heart, which can cause heart attack or other heart related problems.

Pressure on the kidneys also increases. Kidneys can stop working due to extreme heat and dehydration. Losing too much water in the form of sweat puts more pressure on the kidneys and there is a fear of their damage.

The human body can withstand heat only to a certain extent. But the heat at this time can spoil your health, which is why everyone should know about heat protection.

The entire North India including the capital Delhi is in the grip of severe heat and heatwave these days. In this month of May, the situation has become such that it seems as if fire is not raining from the sky, but sunlight. Usually in summer there is strong sunlight during the day, but after dusk the weather becomes a little cool. However, this time the weather pattern is completely different. People of Delhi and North India are facing the ‘double whammy’ of heat this time, because the heat is not reducing even after the sun sets. Let us know from the doctor how dangerous it is for your health?

Temperature reaching 40 degrees even at night

This time’s heat has broken many previous records. The problem is not just about the strong sunlight, but about the ‘hot nights’. Even at night, the temperature in many major cities of North India including Delhi is reaching between 35 to 40 degrees Celsius. When the temperature does not drop at night, the human body does not get time to cool itself and recover, due to which the risk of falling ill increases manifold.

According to the data of Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), heat is wreaking havoc on the mountains also. The minimum night temperature in Jammu and Kashmir is being recorded 3 to 5 degrees Celsius higher than normal. At the same time, in states like Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, the night temperature remains higher than normal by 1.6 degrees to 3 degrees. Due to concrete jungles, buildings and roads throw out the heat absorbed during the day at night, making the nights even more oppressive.

Red and yellow alert issued in many states

Considering the seriousness of the situation, the Meteorological Department has issued strict warnings for many states.

Red Alert: ‘Red alert’ of severe heatwave has been issued in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha area of Maharashtra. This means that the heat in these states has reached life-threatening levels and people should not go out without essential work.

Yellow Alert: There is a ‘yellow alert’ in hilly states like Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand as well as many other areas of North India, where the weather was usually cold.

Expressing concern over the current situation, Dr. Naresh Kumar, senior scientist of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), has said that at present there are no signs of major change in the weather pattern. This deadly trend of heat during day and night is likely to continue for at least the next 7 days.

Doctors’ warning: There is a serious threat to health

This form of heat is like a medical emergency for health. According to Dr. AK Shukla, HOD of Internal Medicine Department of Kailash Hospital, Noida, this time the heat has become a big and serious threat to health not only during the day but also at night. When body temperature does not return to normal at night, the risk of dehydration and heat stroke increases. Doctors have especially advised those people who are already suffering from some disease to be more careful. If you have hypertension (high blood pressure), diabetes (sugar), or any heart related disease, then this season is very dangerous for you.

How to protect yourself and family from heatwave?

There is no hope of relief for the next one week, hence prevention is the best medicine. Health experts have suggested some easy, but very important solutions.

Hydration is most important: Even if you don’t feel thirsty, keep drinking water every now and then. Do not let there be shortage of water in the body. Apart from water, consume ORS solution, lemonade, buttermilk, lassi and coconut water regularly.

Cover head and body: If there is a compulsion to go out of the house during the day, then avoid coming in contact with direct sunlight. Cover your head well with a cap, towel or umbrella. Always wear cotton, light colored and loose clothes.

Take care of your eating habits: Avoid eating too much fried, roasted and spicy food. Include watery fruits like watermelon, cantaloupe, cucumber and cucumber in your diet.

Don’t ignore the symptoms: If you suddenly notice symptoms like severe headache, dizziness, feeling of vomiting, excessive sweating or sudden cessation of sweating and rapid heartbeat, then do not take it lightly. This could be heat stroke. In such a situation, immediately go to a cool place and seek medical help.

Also read: Cough, cold, soreness and fatigue? It’s not the change in weather, it’s the deficiency in the body, read doctor’s warning

Early Signs Of Heat Stroke In Summer: As the heat increases, the body often starts giving such signals, which we often ignore. But these small signs can later turn into a serious condition like heat stroke. Heatstroke occurs when the body temperature suddenly increases and the body is unable to cool itself. In such a situation, timely caution becomes very important.

What changes occur in the body before heatstroke?

According to clevelandclinic, an organization providing information about health, the body shows many changes before heatstroke. In the beginning, symptoms like mild dizziness, feeling of weakness and feeling of heaviness in the head appear. Many times a person feels like vomiting or may even get upset stomach. This is the time when the body is already warning that it is becoming difficult to tolerate the heat for a long time.

The situation gradually becomes serious

Gradually these symptoms can become more serious. Body temperature starts increasing, heart beat becomes faster and breathing also starts faster than normal. Some people stop sweating, while in some cases excessive sweating is also seen. The skin may appear red or unusually dry. The most dangerous signs occur when it starts affecting the brain. The person starts getting confused, has trouble talking or is unable to think normally. In some cases fainting may also occur. This is the situation when heat stroke can become fatal and requires immediate treatment.

What are the causes of heat stroke?

Now let’s talk about its cause, there are many reasons behind heatstroke. The main reasons for this are staying in bright sunlight for a long time, living in closed and hot places or doing too much physical effort. This problem arises when the body becomes excessively hot and is unable to cool itself through sweat.

Read this also – Heart Fights Cancer: The heart is beating, that is, it is fighting cancer, new study gives hope

Which people have the most problems?

Some people are at greater risk than others. Small children, elderly, pregnant women and people with pre-existing health conditions can be easily affected. Apart from this, people who work outdoors or work hard in summer also need to be more careful.

What should be done to avoid this?

To avoid this, it is important to give rest to the body from time to time. It is very important to drink enough water, wear light and loose clothes and avoid strong sunlight. If anyone shows initial symptoms, immediately take them to a cool place and try to cool the body. Heat wave is not a minor problem. If body signals are understood in time, this can be avoided. But if these are ignored, the situation can quickly become serious. Therefore, taking the signals given by the body lightly can prove costly.

Onion in Pocket Heat Stroke Myth: Currently, there is severe heat in many parts of the country. At the same time, different methods are being adopted to avoid the heat. Recently, a video of Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has gone viral, in which he is also seen telling about keeping onion in the pocket as a way to protect from heat wave. After this, once again this old desi recipe came into discussion. In such a situation, let us now tell you whether keeping onion in the pocket really prevents heat stroke and how effective is this method of the elderly.

What does the old belief say?

In rural areas it has been believed for a long time that onion absorbs heat. This is the reason why elders used to advise keeping onions in your pocket while going out. He believed that this reduces the effect of heat wave on the body.

What does medical science say?

Doctors and medical science do not consider this claim to be true. According to experts, heatstroke occurs when the internal temperature of the body increases too much and the body’s cooling system i.e. sweating stops working properly. In such a situation, water and electrolytes are needed to keep the body cool and not to keep anything in the pocket.

What is the opinion of doctors?

According to doctors, keeping onions in your pocket does not protect you from heatstroke. There is no scientific basis for this, whereas other experts also say that keeping onion near the body does not have any effect on the body temperature. Doctors say that the elements present in onion provide benefits only when it is eaten. By keeping it in the pocket, it can neither absorb heat nor cool the body. Sometimes this may just be a way of giving mental satisfaction i.e. placebo effect.

Also read- Scorching heat will not affect tomato crop, adopt this technique and get bumper yield even in summer.

Elements found in onion and its benefits

Elements like Vitamin C, Vitamin B6, potassium, magnesium, fiber and antioxidants are found in onion. The compound called quercetin present in it helps in reducing swelling in the body and the effect of heat. Besides, it contains high amount of water, which helps in keeping the body hydrated.

Right ways to avoid heat stroke

According to the doctor, it is necessary to take some important precautions to prevent heat stroke. To avoid heat stroke, keep your body hydrated and drink water frequently. Take foods like coconut water, buttermilk, watermelon and cucumber. Wear loose and light clothes. Avoid strong sunlight in the afternoon, go out only by covering your body and face.

Heat Stroke in Children: At present, the scorching heat continues in many parts of the country and the temperature has crossed 40 to 45 degrees. In such a situation, this season is proving to be the most dangerous for children. Such cases are also coming to light, where children have died due to extreme heat and heat wave. Such an incident has once again made it clear how serious a threat heat stroke can be for children.

According to the doctor, children are more sensitive to heat because their body is not as capable of controlling the temperature as that of adults. This is the reason that when exposed to strong sunlight and hot wind, their body temperature can increase rapidly and the situation can become fatal.

What is heat stroke and its symptoms?

Heat stroke occurs when the body temperature increases too much and sweating stops. In such a situation, the body is unable to cool itself, its main symptoms include dry and red skin, high fever, fast pulse, dizziness, confusion and slurred speech. Whereas hit exhaustion is the stage before it, in which symptoms like excessive sweating, weakness, sticky skin, muscle cramps and dizziness are seen. If timely attention is not given, this condition can turn into heat stroke.

Why are children more at risk?

Experts say that children’s body heats up rapidly and they also become dehydrated quickly. We often forget to drink water even while playing, which increases the risk of dehydration. This is why even a little carelessness can create a serious situation.

Also read- Summer Stomach Infection: Is your stomach getting upset again and again in summer? Know its real reason from the doctor

Doctor’s advice to take care of children like this

According to Dr. Manju Nimesh, Pediatric Expert of Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, Delhi, special vigilance is necessary in this summer season. The doctor said that special arrangements have been made in the hospital for children suffering from heat stroke and heat exhaustion. He has said that children should not be taken in the sun at all during peak hours i.e. in the afternoon. Vehicles traveling to school should have proper ventilation and should be cooled beforehand. He says that children’s outdoor activities should be kept to a minimum and they should wear loose, light cotton clothes. Dark colored clothes should be avoided, because they absorb more heat.

According to Dr. Manju Nimesh, if the child has sunstroke and the body temperature has increased, then first of all he should take off his clothes, sprinkle the body with cold water, spread the water on the body and wipe it. If the child is older then make him sit in cold water. If the child is talking nonsense or his mental condition is not good, then take him to the hospital immediately, because in such cases even a slight delay can prove dangerous.

Heatstroke Symptoms: Summer season brings with it strong sunlight and rising temperatures. As the mercury rises, the risk of heatstroke also increases. This is a condition that can be very dangerous for the body and can cause serious problems if not taken care of in time.

Often people think that heat wave occurs suddenly, but it is not so. The body already starts giving some signals, if we understand them then major problems can be avoided. Especially children, elderly, pregnant women and people who work in the sun for a long time, they are more at risk. In such a situation, let us tell you today what signals the body gives before getting heat stroke and how these can be identified.

What signals does the body give before getting heat stroke?

1. Severe headache and dizziness – The most common sign before heat stroke is a sudden severe headache, which feels as if the head is heavy or throbbing. Along with this, dizziness also starts occurring. This is an indication that the body temperature is increasing and the heat is beginning to affect the brain. If such symptoms are seen, one should immediately move away from the sun.

2. Feeling very weak and tired – The second major sign is sudden extreme fatigue and weakness in the body. It seems as if there is no strength left in the body and it is becoming difficult to do any work. Sometimes the person starts having trouble even walking. This is a sign that the body is not able to handle the heat.

3. Change in sweating – Change in sweating is a very important sign before heatstroke. Some people start sweating excessively, while in some cases sweating stops suddenly. Both situations are dangerous because it means that the body is not able to control its temperature.

4. Dry mouth and excessive thirst – As the heat increases, the body starts getting dehydrated quickly. In such a situation, the mouth starts becoming dry and there is a desire to drink water again and again. If this sign is ignored, then the lack of water in the body can increase further, due to which the risk of heatstroke increases.

5. Restlessness, nervousness and difficulty concentrating – Before heat stroke, a person suddenly starts feeling uneasy. The heart begins to panic and does not feel like doing any work. Sometimes it becomes difficult to concentrate and the person feels confused. This is an indication of the effect of heat on the brain.

6. Mild fever or feeling of body heat – Initially the body starts feeling slightly hot or it may feel like fever. This is a sign that the body temperature is going above normal. If it is not handled on time then the situation can turn into heat wave.

3. Keep your head covered.

Summer Fatigue: As April ends, the scorching and stinging heat has started wreaking havoc. After the temperature crossed 40 degrees, people have already started speculating about how severe the heat is going to be this time. Meanwhile, doctors are also advising to stay at home during peak heat (between 11 am and 3 pm). Every year the threat of heat wave and UV Rays looms over people and in this season people feel tired even without working.

Many people are noticing a strange pattern in summer, in which people have started feeling extremely tired even after not doing physical work. According to doctors, this is not an illusion, but is happening due to the burden on your body. According to doctors, “Heat exhaustion is a physical reaction caused by heat, dehydration and lack of sleep.”

The burden on the body increases due to heat

In hot weather, the body tries to maintain its internal temperature, due to which our heart has to work more than necessary. Sweating helps, but with sweat the essential electrolytes present in the body are also lost. Even mild dehydration affects blood circulation, which causes fatigue, headache and low energy and affects your productivity throughout the day.

Difficulty sleeping and breathing

Summer nights are quite painful and a slightly cooler temperature is needed for good sleep. When this does not happen, sleep is disturbed. In such a situation, one feels tired even after sleeping for hours. Heat can also cause respiratory problems, such as sleep apnea. When sleep is disturbed, concentration and mood deteriorate badly.

What is necessary to do?

Heat exhaustion is not caused by laziness. Therefore, keep drinking adequate amount of water from time to time, so that you will remain hydrated and electrolytes will also remain balanced. Also try to keep your sleeping place cool.

Heatstroke: As April is coming to an end, the heat is increasing. Sunlight causes problems for people as soon as they step out of the house. Due to this strong sunlight and continuously increasing temperature every day, the cases of heat stroke are increasing rapidly these days. In such a situation, walking in the sun for a long time or doing heavy physical activity increases the body temperature much more than normal, due to which the risk of heat stroke increases. In such a situation, let us know how to avoid heat stroke during summer.

What is heat stroke?

According to Dr. Rahul Chirag (Consultant Physician, Care Hospitals), heat stroke is a condition in which the body temperature increases due to extreme heat or exposure to extreme heat for a long time. This happens when the body temperature reaches 104°F or more. This problem is seen more in extreme heat. According to doctors, there are two types of heat stroke – exertional and non-exertional. Exertional heat stroke occurs mostly in sportsmen and laborers because they do heavy physical work or exercise in the hot sun, while non-exertional heat stroke is more commonly seen in the elderly and young children because their body’s ability to regulate temperature is weak.

Symptoms and dangers of heat stroke

If we talk about the symptoms of heat stroke, it includes fever, headache, confusion, irritability, fainting or seizures. Apart from this, dry and hot skin, increased heartbeat and rapid breathing can also be signs of heat stroke. This condition can also prove fatal if timely treatment is not received, hence it is important to pay immediate attention and consult a doctor as soon as symptoms appear.

Heat stroke prevention and treatment methods

To prevent heat stroke, one should avoid going out in the strong afternoon sun. Light and loose clothes should be worn. One should consume as much water and fluids as possible and use an umbrella or hat in the sun. For its treatment, the person should immediately cool the body by taking him to a cool or shady place. Loose clothes should be worn and cold water compresses should be applied. If the condition is serious such as unconsciousness or high fever, one should be immediately taken to the hospital.

Summer season brings only heat and sunshine for many people, but sometimes it can also prove fatal. When the body becomes too hot, it is called heat stroke. Heat stroke is a serious condition in which the body temperature suddenly increases and if not treated in time, it can even lead to the death of the person. In such a situation, let us know how someone dies due to heat stroke. What are the symptoms of heat stroke and how can it be prevented?

How does someone die from heat stroke?

When body temperature rises too quickly, the body fails to cool itself. In this condition the brain, heart and kidneys are affected first. Excessive heat damages brain cells. This causes conditions like confusion, seizures, coma or loss of mental control. The heart works harder to keep the body cool, due to which the heartbeat can become fast and weak. Due to excessive heat the organs gradually stop functioning. If the body temperature remains very high for a long time and is not treated on time, then these vital organs get completely damaged. Due to this, the body’s balance gradually deteriorates and death occurs.

Heat Stroke Symptoms

The first and foremost symptom of heat stroke is excessive heating of the body. Apart from this, other symptoms are also visible. Such as mental changes, confusion, restlessness, slurred speech, seizures or coma, sometimes the skin may become hot and dry, sometimes there may be excessive sweating, feeling of stomach ache or vomiting, redness of the skin and fast heartbeat, headache and fast breathing. If a person is suffering from these symptoms, then the help of a doctor should be sought immediately.

Ways to prevent heat stroke

1. Wear loose and light clothes.

2. Protect from sunlight. Wear a hat, glasses and sunscreen.

3. Drink as much water as possible.

4. Do not leave anyone alone in a parked vehicle.

5. Avoid heavy activities during hot times of the day.

6. Gradually adapt the body to the hot weather.
