Punjab School Timing Change: The Punjab state government has taken a big decision amid the continuously increasing heat and heat wave in Punjab including North India. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has announced that the timing of all government schools in Punjab will be changed from May 25, 2026. The government has taken this step keeping in mind the rising temperatures and the safety of people, especially children.

Giving information through social media, Chief Minister Bhagwat Mann said that from Monday 25th May, the timings of all classes in all government offices and government schools of the state will be from 7:30 am to 1:30 pm, this order will be applicable in the entire state.

Decision taken in view of heat and heat wave

The temperature in Punjab has been continuously increasing for the last several days. In many districts the mercury has reached close to 44 to 45 degrees Celsius, due to which normal life is being affected. A warning has been issued by the Meteorological Department regarding heat wave. In such a situation, the government has changed the timings of schools and government offices to provide relief to children and employees from the strong afternoon sun and hot winds. Experts say that being outside in the afternoon can affect the health of children, elderly and sick people. For this reason, the government has decided to conduct work and studies in the morning.

Some relief from rain and strong winds

On Friday morning, the weather suddenly changed in many districts of Punjab. There was light rain and strong winds in many areas including Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Pathankot. This provided some relief to people from the heat and humidity. However, the Meteorological Department says that this relief cannot last for long. On Thursday, a drop of about 0.9 degrees Celsius was recorded in the maximum temperature in Punjab. But despite this, Bathinda remained the hottest district in the state, where the temperature was recorded at 44.6 degrees Celsius. At the same time, the effect of hot winds and heat wave continued throughout the day in Chandigarh and Mohali.

Summer vacation announced in Chandigarh also

Amidst the increasing heat, Chandigarh administration has also announced summer holidays in schools. According to the administration, summer vacation will start in Chandigarh schools from May 25. This decision has been taken keeping in mind the safety of children. Also, an appeal has been made to the parents to avoid sending their children out in the hot sun.
