Mumbai is once again in the grip of heavy rain. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for the city for the second consecutive day on Monday. This warning is applicable in areas like Borivali, Thane, Kalyan, Mulund, Powai, Santa Cruz, Chembur, Worli, Navi Mumbai and Colaba. The torrential rains for the last few days have completely affected the routine of the people of the city.

Water logging and traffic jams on the roads have made common people live. In many places, people were stuck for hours to reach their work. Local train services have come to a standstill and vehicles were seen crawling in some areas.

The process of rain started from Friday

Since Friday, Mumbai has been raining continuously. On Friday itself, heavy rains made the city water-water, after which the IMD issued a red alert. Between 1 pm and 4 pm on August 16, strong rains were recorded in the western and eastern suburbs.

The situation worsened on Saturday. Some areas received more than 200 mm of rain, causing water to the low -lying areas. People had to face a lot of trouble due to the stagnation of local train services and jamming on the roads.

Landslide snatched two lives

The saddest aspect of rain was seen in Vikhroli Parksite area. Due to landslides here, two people lost their lives and two others were seriously injured.

Heavy rains not only affected the roads, but also disrupted the local train services of Central and Western Railway. Passengers were upset for hours due to flooding at many stations.

Warning of strong winds

According to the IMD, there is a possibility of light to moderate rains in Mumbai on Monday. The intensity of rain can range from 5 to 15 mm per hour. The sky will be cloudy and strong winds will blow at a speed of 40-50 km/h. In some places, winds can reach 60 km/h.

There was a slight decrease in the intensity of rain on Sunday, but some areas received heavy rainfall. Fortunately, there was no large water logging on that day.

The risk of high tide remains intact

There will be two high tide in Mumbai on Monday. The first high tide will be 3.56 meters at 7:46 am and the second at 6:53 pm will be 3.18 meters high. IMD has advised people not to go to the sea. Especially people living in low -lying areas have been instructed to be vigilant, because the risk of water logging has increased.

August 16 rains broke record

On August 16, the suburbs of Mumbai received 244.7 mm of rain, which was the third highest one day of August in the last 13 years. This rain completely submerged the city roads, railway tracks and low -lying areas. People also had a lot of difficulty in getting out of their homes.

Weather forecast to come

According to the IMD, the process of heavy to very heavy rains in Mumbai will continue till 20 August. After this, there will be a period of light rain till 23 August. Today the maximum temperature of the city is likely to be 26.5 ° C and the minimum temperature is 24 degrees Celsius.

IMD has appealed to people living in Mumbai and surrounding areas to take precautions. Especially those living in low -lying areas have been asked to be cautious with water logging. People have been advised not to get out of the house if it is not necessary to avoid going to the beach.

Alert issued in other parts of Maharashtra

Apart from Mumbai, rain continues in many districts of Maharashtra. IMD has issued Orange and Red Alerts for districts like Nashik, Pune, Kolhapur, Satara, Solapur, Ahmednagar, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg. In Central Maharashtra and Marathwada, heavy to very heavy rainfall has been warned till 19 August. There is also a possibility of storm and lightning fall with thunderstorms.

The intermittent rains in Mumbai, Maharashtra since last night, have slowed the city’s speed. Many low-lying areas of Central and Western suburbs as well as Central Mumbai have been flooded. Due to continuous rains, there has been water logging on the roads, which has disrupted traffic. Traffic has been completely discontinued due to the flooding of two to three feet of water in the dark subway.

The Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow alert for the next 48 to 72 hours in Mumbai, Thane and Palghar districts. At the same time, Orange Alert has been declared for Raigad district, where very heavy rains have been expected. The Meteorological Department has appealed to the citizens not to go to the sea, as the height of the sea waves may increase.

High-tide and low-tide time

Today, there is a possibility of high tide in Mumbai twice.

The first high tide came at 9:19 am, whose height was about 3.88 meters.

The second high tide will be at 8:31 pm, whose height is estimated to be around 3.42 meters.

Apart from this, low-tide time stayed at 2:08 am and 3:13 pm. In such a situation, sea water can affect the drains and drainage systems filled in the city during high tide.

The most impact of rain in these areas

Heavy rains in the western suburbs saw the most impact. Roads have been flooded in the areas of Andheri, Malad, Kandivali, Borivali. The dark subway is completely submerged, which had to stop traffic. However, the drainage work has been started after the rain stopped in the morning.

The speed of rain in the eastern suburbs Ghatkopar, Kurla and Mulund slowed for a few hours, which has given some relief. The situation has become a bit normal in areas like Dadar and Parel in Central Mumbai.

What is estimated in the coming hours?

According to the Meteorological Department, there may be strong rains again in the next 3 hours, especially in the western and coastal areas of Mumbai. Along with heavy rains this evening, there is a possibility of strong wind and thunder-glow.

Today, 95% rainfall has been expected in Mumbai, in which there may be excessive rainfall between late afternoon and evening. The administration has placed NDRF and BMC teams on high alert.

The administration and the Meteorological Department have appealed to the citizens not to get out of the house without need, do not go to the sea shore, and stay away from the water logging areas. If the speed of rain continues in this way, then traffic on local trains and roads can be more affected in the coming time.
