IPL 2026 has not gone very well for Delhi Capitals. Akshar Patel and team are not officially out of the playoff race yet, but their reaching there will be no less than a miracle. Delhi has lost 7 out of 12 matches. With 10 points, the team’s net run rate is in minus (-0.093) and even after winning both the matches, the team can reach only 14 points.

After the disappointing performance of Delhi Capitals, major changes can be seen in the Delhi coaching staff before the upcoming season. According to a report by news agency PTI, there is little possibility that Akshar Patel will remain the captain in 2027. Akshar has not only disappointed as a captain, his personal performance has also not been good.

32-year-old Akshar Patel has scored 100 runs in 9 innings played in IPL 2026 at an average of 12.50, while he is batting in the top-5. In this, he scored 56 runs in a single innings, that is, in the other 8 innings he scored a total of 44 runs. Even in bowling, Akshar’s performance was not as per expectations. He bowled 36 overs in 12 matches, taking only 10 wickets. Although he did not concede much runs, his economy was 8.8.

It was told in the report that the distribution of ownership rights of Delhi Capitals is 50-50 percent. JSW and GMR take turns in managing the management and in the next edition, all the cricket related work will be in the hands of Parth Jindal and JSW.

Akshar Patel’s captaincy has also been under question, because he had to go to Hemang Badani and Venugopal Rao to take most of the decisions, so there is very little chance that he will get the captaincy of Delhi Capitals next year.

“It is likely that the entire coaching staff will also be retained next year,” a source told PTI on condition of anonymity. Many questions have been raised on Akshar’s captaincy. He ignored a batsman like Abhishek Porel and did not use an all-rounder like Madhav Tiwari properly. Before the 2027 mega auction, Delhi Capitals may retain Akshar Patel, but will probably remove him from the captaincy and look for a new captain.
