Afghanistan’s weakest passport

According to the 2025 report, Afghanistan’s passport ranks lowest in the world. Frequent terrorist incidents, political instability and weak situation at the international level are the main reasons for this. Citizens of this country can travel to only 27 countries without visa or on-arrival facility, hence it has been called the weakest passport in the world. Its rank is 104.

Syria war and crisis reduced credibility

The civil war going on in Syria for the last decade has seriously affected the international position of this country. Many countries have imposed visa restrictions on Syrian citizens. Syria’s rank in the Henley Index is 103, making it just above Afghanistan.

Impact of Iraq terrorism and instability

Iraq’s name is also included among the countries with weak passports. Years of war and terrorist attacks damaged its image. Due to this, Iraqi citizens have to go through rigorous scrutiny and a strict process to obtain a visa. This country is ranked 102nd in the Henley ranking.

Pakistan is a neighboring country stuck in strict visa rules

Pakistan’s passport is also one of the weakest passports in the world. Political instability, terrorism and international disputes have weakened its position. Pakistani citizens get visa-free entry in only 33 countries. Pakistan’s rank has been recorded at 101 in Henley Index.

Yemen war and economic crisis hit

Yemen has been struggling with civil war and economic devastation for many years. Due to this, it has become very difficult for the citizens here to get visa to travel abroad. Its rank has been given as 101 in Henley Passport Index 2025. Many countries have rejected visa applications of Yemeni citizens.

Somalia instability reduced credibility

Somalia has been facing terrorism and political instability for decades. Most countries of the world do not trust Somalian documents. It ranks 100 in the Henley Index and very few countries allow its citizens visa-free entry.

World’s Most Powerful Passports: The strength of passports of different countries of the world is measured on the basis of the number of free visa or visa on arrival countries. Which simply means that the strength of the American passport has reduced. This time Singapore has got the first position in this list. This means that Singapore citizens can travel to most of the countries in the world through Visa on Arrival.

Indian passport status

Talking about Indian passport, there has been a decline of 5 points. Last year it was at number 80, and this year it has slipped to 85th place. However, in the last report the Indian passport ranking had improved and it reached number 77. If we talk about Visa on Arrival, Indian citizens can travel to 57 countries. Visa on arrival means that you do not have to obtain a visa for any country before traveling to that country. When you reach that country, you are given a visa.

These countries dominated

According to the Henley Passport Index 2025, Singapore’s passport has become the most powerful passport in the world. Singapore citizens can travel to 193 countries without visa or visa on arrival. After this, South Korea remains at second and third position with reach of 190 countries and Japan with reach of 189 countries.

If you have a passport of Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Spain and Switzerland, you can travel to 188 countries. Whereas with the passport of Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Ireland and Netherlands you can go to 187 countries. You can travel to 180 countries with the passports of America and Malaysia.

Where the strength of America’s passport has reduced and it has fallen out of the top 10. There is a lot of improvement in the ranking of our neighboring country China. According to the data of the year 2015, the ranking of China’s passport was 94. At the same time, now in 2025 it has reached number 64.

Henley Passport Index, an organization that ranks passports of powerful countries around the world, has released the list of passport rankings for 2025. After the arrival of this report, America has suffered a big shock. According to statistics, the American passport has been out of the list of top-10 most powerful passports in the world for the first time in 20 years.

In this report, Singapore’s passport has been ranked first, while India’s has made continuous improvement after a few years of decline. America, which was once on the first position in the list of passports, has now declined to 12th position and is tied with Malaysia. Both countries have visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 180 countries. In the year 2024, America was at 7th place in this list.

Singapore won first place in the report

According to Henley Report, Singapore has visa-free or visa-on-arrival facility among 193 countries, due to which this country has been given the top position. After this, South Korea is at second place and Japan is at third place, which has access to 190 countries. Along with this, European countries like Switzerland, Luxembourg, Germany, Italy, Spain etc. have been placed at fourth position.

This time India has got a good position in the ranking. India has been ranked 85th in the report, where it has visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 59 countries. This is considered a good ranking for India. After the Covid-19 pandemic, India’s ranking had fallen to 90th rank. However, India got 84th position in this ranking in the year 2023 and 80th position in 2024.

Pakistan got this place in the ranking

According to this report of Henley Passport Index 2025, India’s neighboring country Pakistan has been ranked 103rd, which has visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 31 countries. Last year in 2024, Pakistan’s passport was ranked 101st, which means Pakistan has registered a decline in this ranking.

Why did the United States fall down in the rankings?

Over the past few years, the US has limited efforts to expand visa-free travel agreements. At the same time, other countries (like Singapore, Japan, South Korea) have made such agreements with many countries, due to which their citizens are getting the facility of visa-free travel. At the same time, America has also had political and diplomatic tensions with many countries, such as China, Russia, Iran, and some African nations. For this reason, those countries have also increased travel restrictions or visa difficulties on American citizens.

The US imposed stringent travel restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic and gradually relaxed some restrictions even after the pandemic, while other countries increasingly flexed their policies. Due to this, America’s passport proved to be less weak than other countries.
