The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has released a report regarding road accident. It has been told in this report that more than 1.72 lakh people died in a road accident in 2023. This figure is very shocking. That is, 474 people die every day on the roads. That is, about 20 people died every hour.

Most death in which state

If we talk only road accidents, then Tamil Nadu has the highest number of road accidents. But if we talk about death in road accidents, then the name of Uttar Pradesh comes at the top.

Top five states die in most road accidents

Uttar Pradesh has died in the highest number of road accidents in 2023. There have been 23,652 deaths here. After this, Tamil Nadu comes in second place. There have been 18,347 deaths here. After this, Maharashtra comes in third place and 15,366 deaths have occurred here. In fourth place, Madhya Pradesh comes to Madhya Pradesh with 13,798 deaths and in fifth place with 12,321 deaths to Karnataka. Let us tell you that the biggest increase has been seen in the death of those driving two wheelers. About 70% of these people did not wear helmets.

The main cause of road accident

In the report of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the main reason for the accident has been given to speed up and drive in the wrong direction. Along with this, ignoring security rules is also playing a very important role in death in road habits. The Indian government has set a target to work up to 50% of the road accident by 2030. But to get this, the general public will have to strictly follow the traffic law. Along with this, the government is also going to start a national road safety mission to monitor public awareness and accidents.

Every customer has to pay road tax while purchasing a new train in India. This tax increases its on road price by about 10% by joining the price there. The government argues that this tax is kept in the country’s huge road networks and is spent on security services. But the big question arises that when the government takes a road tax while buying a car, then why is a separate toll tax charged on the National Highway.

The real purpose of road tax

Regarding road tax, the government says that it is used on road lights, signals, security services and first aid facilities. Also, new highways and expressways are also expanded with this money. This tax is mandatory under Section 39 of the Motor Vehicle Taxation Act 1988 and this has to pay a lump sum at the time of taking the vehicle owner.

Then why toll tax?

It is here that the biggest question arises in the minds of the general public. If the government is already taking money through road tax, then why is a separate toll tax from passengers to walk on the National Highway. The Ministry of Road Transport argues that the toll is actually taken to remove the cost of highway construction and the maintenance spent on it. Many projects are completed by taking loans and the recovery of tolls continues for long time for interest payments on them.

Complaints reached court

Actually, it has been seen many times that toll collection starts without making the road completely. The Supreme Court recently asked the National Highway Authority of India the same question as to why the roads are incomplete, why is the toll charged. The court said that it is playing with the trust of the public. The Kerala High Court also stayed toll collection for four weeks in one case.

Government’s new preparations

The Union Road Transport Ministry had recently made a big proposal, under this, if the two -taken road is being converted into four lanes, then the toll should be reduced to half during the construction. So far, the toll on such roads is 60% of the normal rate, but the ministry is working on a plan to reduce it to 30%.

How much relief to the public

In view of the complaints of the people, the government has already taken several steps. An annual toll pass of 3000 which private vehicles can cross 200 toll plazas. In addition, up to 50% deduction in tolls for heavy vehicles on bridges, tunnels and flyovers. Despite this, the question is the same when road tax is already charged on every vehicle, then why is the issue of toll tax separately separately today remains a matter of debate across the country.

Ghazipur Industrial Police Sub -Inspector (SI) Farooq Hussain said that the workers had protested on Thursday over the holiday and bonus payment. According to the report of Bangladesh’s chief daily ‘The Dhaka Tribune’, in response, the factory officials issued a notice to close the factory. Despite several attempts to interact with the authorities about the holiday and bonus, the problems of the workers could not be resolved.

A protesting employee told ‘Daily Star’, ‘We are struggling to survive with our families. Eid is getting closer, yet there is no guarantee of our holiday payment and bonus. The factory should be opened with a farmney and our dues should be paid immediately ‘.

Workers of 15 textile factories demonstrated

Earlier this week, hundreds of workers blocked the Dhaka-Tangail and Dhaka-Maiman Singh highway at Bhogra bypass intersection of Ghazipur on the issue of non-payment of salary. The protests already created a traffic jam in the crowded area. The protesters alleged that more than 300 laborers did not get their salary. Officers are delaying their salary without giving any valid reasons. According to local media reports, last week, laborers from at least 15 textile factories in Kaliycoir, Ghazipur blocked the Dhaka-Tangail highway in protest against the closure of a factory and alleged attack on workers. According to a report by the International Labor Organization (ILO) released in November 2024, Sri Lanka and Bhutan are the third largest percentage of low -paid laborers in South Asian countries after Sri Lanka and Bhutan.

Many factories closed

Economists say that this increasing inequality has forced low -income and unskilled workers to reduce food consumption. In August 2024, since the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus came to power, the protests and strikes of the workers across the country have taken up their hold on the deteriorating circumstances of not getting dues and working. According to reports, many factories have been closed due to continuous protests by the workers, while many workers lost their lives and many were seriously injured during the protest march.
