Elections for 51 urban local bodies announced in Himachal Pradesh, still waiting for the announcement of Panchayat elections, elections for Municipal Council, Nagar Panchayat and Mandi, Solan, Palampur and Dharamshala Municipal Corporation, elections will be held on May 17.

Elections for local bodies have been announced in Himachal Pradesh. However, we will have to wait for the Panchayati Raj elections. Himachal State Election Commission has announced elections for 51 Municipal Councils, Nagar Panchayats and Municipal Corporations of Mandi, Solan, Palampur and Dharamshala of Himachal. With the announcement of elections, the Model Code of Conduct has come into force in the election areas.

This is the complete schedule

Voting for local bodies in Himachal will be held on May 17 from 7 am to 3 pm. Nomination forms can be filled from 11 am to 3 pm on 29th, 30th April and 2nd May. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be done on May 4 from 10 am. Whereas candidates will be able to withdraw their names till 6th May. The counting of votes of Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats will be done only after 3 pm on 17th May. However, the counting of Municipal Corporation votes will take place on May 31. Municipal Corporation elections will be held on party election symbols and EVMs while Nagar Panchayat and Municipal Council voting will be held through ballot paper.

More than three and a half lakh voters will cast their votes

A total of 3 lakh 60 thousand 859 voters will cast their votes for these 51 urban bodies. In which 180963 male and 179882 female voters will participate. 1808 voters who have completed 18 years of age will cast their vote for the first time in the elections. 589 polling stations are being set up by the Commission for the said elections.

Panchayat elections will also be announced soon

Currently elections will be held for 4 Municipal Corporations, 25 Municipal Councils and 22 Nagar Panchayats. Panchayat elections will also be announced soon. This information has been given by Himachal Election Commission’s Election Officer Anil Khachi.

He said that the expenditure limit for candidates contesting Municipal Corporation elections has been fixed at Rs 1 lakh, Rs 75 thousand for Municipal Council and Rs 50 thousand for Nagar Panchayat. Instructions have been given to the security forces to conduct the elections peacefully.
