The brutal murder of Dipu Chandra Das amid increasing violence against Hindu minorities in Bangladesh has deepened the feeling of fear and insecurity in the entire country. This incident is not just the murder of a person, but a picture of the fear in which the Hindu community of Bangladesh is forced to live today. The things told by an eyewitness of this massacre while talking to NDTV, make it clear that this attack did not happen suddenly but was done under conspiracy and hatred. The eyewitness said, “Dipu Chandra Das had become a monster and not a human being who committed murder.”

According to eyewitnesses, Dipu Chandra Das was a hard-working young man, but his hard work was irritating some people. Colleagues who could not get jobs took revenge by spreading false allegations of blasphemy against him. The eyewitness said, “This rumor was spread deliberately to instigate the crowd. Later the administration also clarified that no evidence of blasphemy was found against Dipu Chandra Das, but by then the situation had gone out of hand.”

On the day of the incident, Dipu Chandra Das was called to the HR department of the factory. There he was forced to resign. According to the eyewitness, at that time not only the factory employees but also some people from outside were present there. After this, Dipu Chandra Das was pushed in front of the crowd standing outside the factory gate, where radicals prepared for violence were already present. The mob attacked Dipu Chandra Das as soon as he came out. He was beaten with sticks and punches, and was repeatedly attacked on his face and body. He became drenched in blood, but the violence of the mob did not stop here.

According to eyewitnesses, Dipu Chandra Das was dragged for about a kilometer, then tied to a tree and burnt alive. All this happened openly, but no one could come forward due to fear.

Deepu, who worked in a textile factory, was accused of hurting religious sentiments without any concrete evidence.

According to the report of The Daily Star, according to Mohammad Farhad Hussain Khan, Superintendent of Police of Mymensingh Industrial District, he received information about the incident at around 8 pm. By the time the police team reached the spot, the situation had worsened. Hundreds of people were gathered on the road and the crowd was so fierce that it became almost impossible to reach the spot. Police say that if information had been received in time, perhaps the young man’s life could have been saved.

Highway became witness to violence, traffic came to a standstill for three hours

When the police reached near the factory, they saw that the crowd was taking Deepu’s body towards the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway. During this time, there was a jam of about 10 kilometers long, which lasted for about three hours. Due to traffic jam, neither the police could move forward properly nor the relief agencies could reach on time.

The role of factory management is also under question

According to the administrative officials of Pioneer Knitwear Bangladesh Factory, some workers started the ruckus at around 5 pm. It was alleged that Deepu had hurt religious sentiments. However, the factory management also admitted that there was no evidence to support these allegations. To calm the situation, a senior official of the factory forced Dipu to resign so that the crowd would calm down, but this step also proved to be inadequate.

Violence broke out as soon as the shift changed

As soon as the evening shift ended, a crowd of second shift workers and local people gathered outside the factory. The situation worsened as the numbers increased. At around quarter to nine in the night, an angry mob broke the factory gate and dragged Deepu out of the security room. After this he was beaten publicly and murdered on the spot. After some time the body was set on fire.

The truth came out in the investigation: the allegations are completely false

Initial investigation by Bangladesh’s Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has made it clear that Dipu had neither made any objectionable post on social media nor anywhere else. According to officials, the charge of blasphemy was completely baseless. Investigative agencies say that when the situation worsened, Dipu was handed over to the mob to save the factory, which is a serious mistake.

Arrests were made, but questions still remain

Police have so far arrested 12 people in this case. The victim’s brother has filed a case against 140 to 150 unknown people. Investigation is going on, but this incident has raised deep questions on the security system of minorities in Bangladesh.
