After US President Donald Trump’s threat to blockade the Strait of Hormuz, the whole world is once again afraid of the oil crisis. Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will visit China on Tuesday (April 14, 2026) to discuss the US blockade on the Strait of Hormuz. Trump has said that he has instructed the US Navy to stop ships that have paid fees to Iran to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

Russian Foreign Minister will visit China

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said that Lavrov will visit Beijing at the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. His two-day visit comes in the wake of Trump’s announcement of the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz in an effort to disrupt Iran’s oil supplies to China and other countries. China has been importing large quantities of oil from Iran for years, ignoring US sanctions.

China’s response to Trump’s threat

Trump’s move to block the Strait of Hormuz is likely to have a long-term impact on Beijing. China is also a big importer of Russian oil and gas. Guo Jiakun said that during Lavrov’s visit, the foreign ministers of the two countries will exchange views on the progress of bilateral relations, cooperation in various fields as well as international and regional issues.

After the failure of Islamabad talks, Donald Trump said that America will start a blockade of ships trying to enter or exit the Strait of Hormuz with immediate effect. Iran has blamed America for the failure of talks. Regarding America’s announcement of blockade, Iran said that if its ports are threatened then no port in the Persian Gulf or the Gulf of Oman will be safe.

Hope ceasefire will continue: China

China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun described the Islamabad talks as a positive step towards reducing tensions. China expressed hope that the ceasefire between the two sides will continue. The Chinese Foreign Ministry wrote on the social media platform X, ‘The US-Iran talks in Islamabad were a step towards reducing tensions. China hopes that the ceasefire will continue, conflicts will be resolved through political and diplomatic means instead of rekindling the fire of war, and conditions will be created for the early return of peace in the Gulf.
