Why Ebola Virus Is Spreading Rapidly In Africa: Ebola virus is once again spreading rapidly in many parts of Africa and the concern of health agencies around the world has increased. Especially the cases reported in Congo and Uganda have alerted health experts. A new analysis by researchers from the World Health Organization and Imperial College London claims that the actual cases of Ebola infection in Congo may be much higher than the official figures.

According to the report, by mid-May, 400 to 800 cases of Ebola may have been reported, while some experts have expressed the possibility of this number being more than 1000. The highest number of cases have been found in Ituri province of Congo, where the infection has been spreading continuously since the end of April.

How does its danger spread?

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Ebola is a very dangerous viral disease, which spreads through contact with the blood, sweat, vomit, saliva or other body fluids of an infected person. According to health experts, this virus does not spread through air or water, but the risk increases if one comes too close to an infected person. Especially doctors, nurses and those who take care of patients are most at risk.

What are its initial symptoms?

The early symptoms of Ebola often resemble those of a normal viral fever, so it may be difficult to identify at first. The infected person may feel high fever, headache, body ache, weakness and sore throat. As the disease progresses, vomiting, diarrhea, skin rash and in many cases internal or external bleeding may also start. Experts say that it may take 2 to 21 days for symptoms to appear after infection. However, on an average, signs of the disease start appearing in the patient within 8 to 10 days. It is a matter of relief that the infected person does not spread the virus before the symptoms start.

How can we prevent this?

According to the doctors of Apollo Hospital, caution is the most important weapon to prevent Ebola. Avoid contact with infected patients, wash hands frequently with soap and avoid touching the blood or body fluids of any sick person. If a person has recently returned from an Ebola-affected area and is feeling high fever or weakness, then a medical examination should be done immediately. Health agencies also believe that vaccination and contact tracing are proving to be the most effective weapons in stopping Ebola. At the same time, PPE kits, masks, gloves and strict infection control measures have been said to be extremely important for health workers.
