Linkedin: LinkedIn is considered to be the largest professional networking platform for job search. But soon the company is going to make some changes about this app, which may put the privacy of users in danger. Yes, in fact, the company is going to make major changes in the privacy policy. The company has announced that from November 3, Microsoft will be allowed to use users’ data which will be used to train AI models and for personified advertisements.

According to LinkedIn, data like profile, work history, education details, posts and comments will be used. However, the company has made it clear that private messages will be completely safe and they will not be shared in any way.

Two major changes in policy update

This change includes two important parts, first, it will be used to improve the activity and information of users to improve content-generating AI models. Apart from this, Microsoft and its partners will get access to user data so that advertisements can be made even more personal.

How to do opt-out?

Linkedin has given users the option of Opt-out so that they can prevent their data from being used for AI training or advertisements if they want. Users can withdraw their consent at any time but keep in mind that the data shared before November 3 can be used in training until you opt-out.

AI way of getting out of training

• Open the LinkedIn account and go to Settings & Privacy.
• Choose Data Privacy section.
• Click on how linkedin uses your data.
• Close Data for General AI Improvement option.

This option remains on by default. Closing it will not stop Linkedin’s AI facilities, just your personal data will not be used for training.

How to stop data sharing for advertisements

Go to your linkedin account settings.

Open the Advertising Data section.

Close the default on option present there so that your data is not given to Microsoft for personalized advertisements.

In which countries will the new policy be implemented?

This change will only be applicable in EU, EEA, UK, Switzerland, Canada and Hong Kong. Advertising data sharing updates with Microsoft will be applicable in the US and most other countries. But due to the stringent privacy law in EU, UK and Switzerland, this rule will not apply there.

This step of Linkedin is not a unique initiative. Already Google uses data for its Gemini model and uses information about Meta, Facebook and Instagram in AI training.
