If there is any most popular career option in India after government job, it is the banking sector. Many people consider banks as just a place to deposit, withdraw money or take loans, but in reality banks are one of the largest employment providing institutions in the country. Thousands of jobs are created every year in both public sector banks and private banks. In these jobs, salary is good, job security is available and there is also opportunity for growth. But the question arises that how to get a job in a bank and which examination has to be given. So let us know what is the complete path to enter the banking sector.

path to job in government bank

The most important way to get a job in government banks is IBPS exam. Its full name is Institute of Banking Personnel Selection. This is the same organization which conducts examinations every year for recruitment in government banks. Just as UPSC conducts civil services examinations, similarly IBPS handles the responsibility of banking recruitment.

For which posts does IBPS recruit?

Every year IBPS conducts recruitment on a total of seven types of posts. Which includes Clerk, Probationary Officer, Specialist Officer, Regional Rural Bank Officer Scale 1, RRB Officer Scale 2, RRB Officer Scale 3 and RRB Office Assistant. Through these examinations, about 11 big government banks and 43 rural banks of the country recruit. These banks include Punjab National Bank, Bank of Baroda, Union Bank, Bank of India, Canara Bank, Central Bank of India, Indian Bank, UCO Bank, Bank of Maharashtra, Indian Overseas Bank and Punjab and Sindh Bank. However, the country’s largest bank SBI is not a part of it because SBI conducts its own separate examination.

IBPS Exam Stages and Salary

The recruitment process of IBPS is completed in three main stages. Which includes Prelims, Mains and Interview, but these three are not for all the posts. There are only prelims and mains for the post of clerk. Whereas for PO and SO there are three stages, Prelims, Mains and Interview. If you start working as an IBPS clerk, your starting salary is around Rs 30,000 to Rs 40,000, whereas an SBI clerk can get a little more, around Rs 35,000 to Rs 45,000.

The starting salary of RRB clerks working in rural areas is around Rs 25,000 to Rs 35,000. If you are at the officer level i.e. RRB PO can get a salary of Rs 55,000 to Rs 65,000, IBPS PO Rs 60,000 to Rs 80,000, and highest, SBI PO can get a salary of Rs 80,000 to Rs 1,50,000. Apart from this, bank employees not only get basic salary but also get many types of allowances. Like DA, HRA, medical facilities, travel allowance, and other benefits.

Job path in private banks

Private Banks like HDFC, ICICI, Axis, Kotak Mahindra etc. There is no common examination for recruitment in these banks. Recruitment here continues throughout the year, and is mostly done online or through referral. To get a job here, one must have a degree in B.Com, BBA, BMS, Economics or Finance. But BA, BSc or engineering graduates can also apply.

To apply here, see the Careers page on the official website of the bank. Create profile on Job Portals (Naukri, LinkedIn, Indeed). Be aware of Walk-in Interviews. Get in touch with the college placement cell. Focus on internship, many banks give permanent jobs to interns only.
Read also Recruitment for 2700 posts in Bank of Baroda, applications started from today, know complete details

If you are preparing for a government job and want to make a career in the banking sector, then this news is for you. A job in a bank not only gives a stable future, but it also brings respect and good salary. Every year lakhs of candidates apply for bank exams, but many people do not know what is the process of bank recruitment, what posts are available and what is the qualification required.

There are two types of bank jobs in India, government and private. Recruitment in government banks is mainly done through IBPS, SBI and RBI. Through these institutes, recruitment is done on posts like Clerk, Probationary Officer (PO), Specialist Officer (SO) and Grade B Officer. For the post of Clerk, graduation degree in any discipline is required, whereas for PO, graduation or post graduation is required. For Specialist Officer, special qualification is sought in subjects like IT, HR, Marketing or Law, whereas for RBI Grade B, graduation with at least 60% marks is required.

How is the selection done?

Age should be between 20 to 28 years for Clerk, 20 to 30 years for PO and 21 to 30 years for RBI Grade B. Reserved categories get relaxation in age limit as per government rules. The selection process takes place in three stages. Prelims exam, main exam and interview. In the first stage, questions from Reasoning, English and Maths are asked, while in the main exam, questions related to General Awareness, Computer and Banking knowledge are asked. After this the final selection is done through interview.

Good salary?

In the banking sector, along with salary, many facilities are also given like dearness allowance, house rent allowance, medical facility, pension and bonus. The starting salary of a bank PO is around Rs 60 thousand per month, whereas a clerk gets around Rs 40 thousand.

How to prepare?

To prepare for the exam, it is important to give mock tests daily, practice reasoning and maths, focus on current affairs and banking awareness. Focusing on solving old question papers and time management is also the key to success.
