The water tank filling siren is an electronic alarm system. Its function is to give sound notification when the water level in the tank reaches a certain height. As soon as the tank is completely filled, the siren starts ringing and people come to know that now the motor has to be switched off.

The water tank filling siren works very simply. In this, two sensor wires are installed in the upper part of the tank. When the water level does not reach these wires, the two wires are not connected to each other and the siren remains off, but as soon as the tank fills and water touches both the wires, the water makes contact between them. The salt and other minerals present in water allow a small amount of electricity to pass through, completing the circuit. As soon as the circuit is completed, the control unit receives the signal and the siren starts sounding. This immediately shows that the tank is full and the water is about to overflow.

How to save water wastage?

As soon as water connects both the sensor wires, the circuit is completed. The signal of completion of the circuit reaches the control unit. After this the control unit switches on the siren. As soon as the siren sounds, people come to know that the tank is full and this prevents wastage of water.

What is the function of control unit?

The most important part in this system is the control unit. The electricity supply of the house reaches this unit first. The control unit converts the AC supply to a low voltage DC supply. After this this DC supply is sent to the sensor wires. When water makes contact between the sensor wires, the control unit detects it and activates the siren.

Why is DC supply given in the tank instead of AC?

It is not considered safe to provide 220 volt AC supply directly inside the tank. Therefore low voltage DC supply is used in good and safe systems. Low voltage DC is sent to the sensor wires, which reduces the risk even if it comes in contact with water. This is why DC based sensors are used in modern water level alarm systems.

How does the whole system work?

This entire system works with the help of electricity and sensors. In this, first the AC power of the house reaches the control unit, where it is converted into safe low voltage DC supply. After this this DC supply is sent to the sensor wires installed in the tank. As long as the water level remains low, there is no contact between the two wires and the circuit remains open, hence the siren does not sound, but as soon as the water touches the two wires after filling the tank, contact is made between them and the circuit is completed. As soon as the circuit is completed, the control unit gets the signal and the siren starts sounding, which shows that the tank is completely filled.
