Why is the number of fake universities increasing?

Every year lakhs of children apply for admission in universities. The number of good universities is very less compared to the demand and taking advantage of this, many fake institutions carry out this fraud. For this, they create websites that look like real ones, fake student testimonials, publicity and claims of getting recognition, so that more and more children can be made victims.

Must check recognition from UGC
Every recognized university in India is required to obtain approval from the University Grants Commission (UGC). In such a situation, if you are going to take admission in a private university, then keep some things in mind-

• Go to the official website of UGC.
• See the list of recognized universities. If your university’s name is not there, then be alert.
• Also check the list of fake universities.

Check the website and the information given on it

The website of a genuine university has its full address, phone number and email. Information about course and faculty is also clear. In such a situation, be alert if

• The website appears incomplete or damaged.
• Correct contact information may not be given.
• Contact should be made only through WhatsApp or filling the form.

Check course wise approval
Some courses require approval from different institutions, such as

• Engineering/Management related degrees – All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
• Medical related degrees – from relevant medical councils like National Medical Commission (NMC).
• Law related degrees – Bar Council.
