Former Indian diplomat Deepak Vohra’s reaction has come to light on US Commerce Minister Howard Latnick’s statement regarding India-US trade deal. According to Deepak Vohra, could the US President not have called that he does not need a trade deal?

Is Trump’s ego that big – Vohra
Responding to Howard Latnick’s statement, Deepak Vohra asked whether Trump’s ego is so big that he thinks the whole world should bow before him. He said that US President Trump is a malignant narcissist and that is why he has imposed tariffs on many countries. Let us tell you that Trump has imposed the highest tariff on India at 50 percent. America has gained billions of dollars in profits from these tariffs. Donald Trump himself has told this.

Taunt on Donald Trump
Taking a dig at Donald Trump, former Indian diplomat Vohra said that once the Emperor of Rome was told that people have turned against him, he said that we are afraid, in such a situation, I want to tell Donald Trump that one day the fear will end but the hatred will not end. He further said that Donald Trump does not want to do a trade deal with India? Is this not their benefit?

What claims did Lutnik make?
During a conversation on the All-In podcast, Lutnick claimed that Trump himself is the leader who finalizes the deal and unless the leader talks directly, the deal will not be completed. According to him, America was assuming that the agreement with India would be reached before other countries, hence talks with countries like Indonesia, Philippines and Vietnam were also done on the same basis. Lutnik said that the call was not made to Trump from the Indian side because the Indian side was uncomfortable about this matter. During this time, America made agreements with other countries and their terms were fixed.

Apart from this, Lutnik also claims that India expressed its desire for talks again after about 3 weeks, but by then the situation had changed. India said that it is now ready for the deal, but by then the train had left the station.

Trade talks between India and America continue. Here, tariffs are also being installed on tariffs. Meanwhile, US Commerce Minister Howard Lutnik has once again criticized India. Lutnik has said that India should open its market and change its attitude towards our policies.

Talking to Newsnation, Lutnik said, we have to improve many countries such as Switzerland, Brazil and India. There are countries from which need to give their right response to America. He further said, they have to open their markets and stop taking such steps, which harm America. This statement of Lutynik has come at a time when India and America relationships remain tight about the purchase of oil from Tariff and Russia.

India talks exaggeratedly

Lutnik had earlier argued that while keeping the US imports out, India exaggerates the size of its market. He said, “India is a boast that it has 1.4 billion people. Why 1.4 billion people will not buy maize from America? Do you not feel bad that they sell us everything and do not buy our maize. They impose tariffs on everything.” In a separate interview to Bloomberg, Lutynik had estimated that India will definitely return on trade talks. He says, “This is all a show. They feel that it is good to fight the world’s biggest customer. But when the matter comes to the business, you will have to stop all this and make a compromise with America.”

Lutynik warns India

Lutnik also warned that buying India’s oil at a lower price than Russia is not going to last for a long time. Before the Russia’s attack on Ukraine, India used to buy less than 2 percent oil of its need from Russia and now buying 40 percent … It is absolutely wrong. “India is involved in the countries on which the Trump’s government has put more tariff. First 25 percent reciperkel tariff, then 25 percent of the oil from Russia. Percentable tariffs have been imposed, which has increased the problems of Indian pharma companies.

India-Rus Trade: The trade deal has not yet been signed between India and America. Prior to this deal, Donald Trump’s Commerce Secretary Hovard Lutynik has given a big statement. He said that India will have to treat America properly.

Hovard Lutynik, Commerce Secretary, Donald Trump, also said that we have to improve many countries and also emphasized that such policies should be eliminated which are harming American interests.

‘India needs to open its market’

In an interview given to the News Nation, Lutynik said that India should open its market and should not adopt policies that can harm America. He said, ‘We have many countries that need to improve, such as Switzerland and Brazil. India is also such a country which should take the right steps towards America. Open your markets and stop work that harm America. This is why we have disagreement with these countries.

‘India will have to cooperate’

Lutnik said that business issues may be resolved over time, but if India wants to deliver its products to American customers, then it will have to cooperate with America. He said, ‘These issues will be resolved with time, but it will take time. These countries have to understand that if you want to sell American consumers, then you have to cooperate with the President of America. So there are some issues left. Big countries like India, they will be resolved over time. Lutnik also said, “The economy of 2026 will be the economy of Donald Trump.”

This statement came at a time when a high -level Indian team led by Indian Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has visited America. The Ministry of Commerce said on 26 September that this tour had a successful talks to strengthen trade and investment relations between India and the US.

Lutnik had earlier argued that keeping out of American imports, India exaggerates the size of its market.

US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnik has targeted the tariff case. He said that countries like India and Brazil should open their markets and react to America by avoiding policies that harm American interests.

Lutenik said in an interview that we have to improve many countries, such as Switzerland, Brazil, India. These are countries that need to give proper response to America. He further said that these countries will have to open their markets and stop actions that harm America.

‘Indian businessmen will finally pressurize the Modi government’

Let me tell you that a few days ago, Lutnik had said that India’s words in business talks were largely symbolic and they had predicted that New Delhi would return to the conversation table in a month or two. He further said that Indian businessmen will finally pressurize Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government to compromise with Washington.

Lutenik told Bloomberg that so I think this is all a show, because you like to fight with the world’s biggest customer, but in the end your businessman will say that you have to stop all this and compromise with America.

They have to come back to America- Lootnik
Lutnik, while presenting this issue in a clear economic context, reminded the rest of the countries that the United States remains the largest consumer market in the world. He said that we are consumers of the world. People have to remember that our 30 trillion dollar economy is the consumer of the world. So finally they (Switzerland, Brazil, India) will have to come back to the customer (America), because we all know that ultimately the customer is right.

US President Donald Trump signed an announcement on Friday (September 19, 2025), under which there is a provision to increase the H1B visa fee to US $ 1,00,000 (Rs 88 lakh) annually. For this fee, the first $ 10,000 (8 to 10 lakh) was fixed. Trump’s move is expected to adversely affect Indian professionals working in America.

At the same time, US Commerce Minister Howard Lutnik was seen justifying this decision of Trump. He said, ‘Is that person so precious that the company should give $ 100,000 to the government every year. This is the purpose of immigration. Keep Americans on jobs, make sure the people coming to the top talent. The President’s attitude is very clear. The top talent is only for America, stop rubbish. ‘

Only capable people get entry into America

Howard Lutnik insisted, ‘The purpose of this policy of Trump is to ensure that only capable people get admission. The company will have to decide. Do they want this, is the person so valuable that he should get a payment of one million dollars annually, or should he return home and achieve even more high status in America? ‘

He said, ‘If someone has to train, then give training to the youths who have completed studies from good universities of our country, train Americans. Do not snatch our jobs by bringing people from outside.

Technical companies dependent on foreign talent

Trump has already been questioning the H-1B visa. This visa is especially important for technical companies, as they are very dependent on foreign talent. According to government data, people with about two-thirds of H-1B visas are done in computer and tech related work. However, this visa is also used to hire engineers, teachers and health sector employees.

US President Donald Trump has announced an additional fee of $ 1,00,000 every year on H-1B visa holders on Friday (September 19, 2025). Trump’s move will affect the most Indian migrant people, as the average annual salary of an H-1B visa holder in the US is around $ 66,000. Trump’s move is the first major indication to extend the Protectionist Stance of America to the service sector to extend the service sector.

This order of Donald Trump has come up at a time when an American delegation led by Assistant US Trade Representative (USTR) Brendon Lynch of South and Central Asia recently visited New Delhi. From the visit of the US delegation, it seemed that the trade talks between India and the US were gradually returning to track. On the other hand, this big step has been taken before the US visit to India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal next week.

What does his commerce minister say on this decision of US President,

After the announcement of this major decision by US President Donald Trump, US Commerce Minister Howard Lutnik said, ‘The purpose of this decision is that now the big tech companies or other companies of America will not train foreign employees. They will have to pay $ 1,00,000 to the government first, after that they will also have to pay salary to the employee.

He said, ‘If you want to train someone, then give training to graduates (graduates) from the best universities of our country. Training Americans. Stop snatching the jobs of the people of our country for outsiders. This is our policy and all the big companies also agree with this. We have also talked to him about this.

White House H-1b Visa program described danger

The White House termed the use of the H-1B program in its notifications as a threat to the security of the country. He said, ‘These programs discourage American people from pursuing a career in the field of science and technology and the leadership role in these areas of America may be in danger.

US President Donald Trump on Friday (September 19, 2025) signed an announcement to impose a fee of $ 100,000 on the new application for H-1B visa i.e. Indians will now have to spend Rs 88 lakh for visa application. This step will affect the Indian workers the most because they are the most among the beneficiaries.

Announcing an increase in the price of H-1B visa, US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnik said that now companies will have to pay $ 1,00,000 annually for each visa. Lutnik said, ‘H-1B visa will have to pay one million dollars annually and all the big companies are ready for it. We have talked to them.

‘The purpose of this policy is to prioritize American graduate’

Lutenik further said that the objective of this policy is to give priority to the American graduate. If you are going to train someone, then train someone recently graduated from a great university. Traine Americans. Stop bringing people to snatch our jobs. Trump said, ‘The technology sector will support this change. They will be very happy with the new visa fee.

No immediate reply was given on the matter on Friday by representatives of several big tech companies including Amazon, Apple, Google and Meta.

Most Indians get benefit

According to official data, India has the highest 71 percent of H-1B visa recipients, while 11.7 percent from China. Explain that H-1B visas are usually issued for a period of three to six years.

The US issues 85,000 H-1B visas annually through lottery system. This year Amazon got the highest number of more than 10,000 employees. After that Tata Consultancy, Microsoft, Apple and Google were ranked. According to USCIS, H-1B is the largest number of employees in California.

US Commerce Minister Howard Lutnik has severely criticized India’s trade policies on Sunday (September 14, 2025). He said that New Delhi takes advantage of global commerce, but it limits access to the market of India.

Lutnik said, ‘India continuously mentions its 140 crore population, but when it comes to American agricultural products, it does not show any openness on this issue.

Business will be difficult with the world’s largest consumer- Lootnik

In an interview to Axios, US Commerce Minister Howard Lutnik said, ‘India is proud that it has a population of 140 crores, so why does he not buy a sack maize from us? They put a tariff of everything. So either you accept it, otherwise it will be difficult for you to do business with the world’s biggest consumer.

US minister expressed resentment over India’s policies

US Commerce Minister Howard Lutnik has expressed displeasure over India’s growing global influence and repeatedly free-free-free democracy. He said, ‘This is a matter of fairness. America buys goods from Indian without stopping, but when we try to sell, India erects walls.

Buying India’s Russian crude oil made sensitive issue for Washington- Lootnik

Lutnik also stressed that India is importing a large amount of crude oil from Russia, which has become a sensitive issue for Washington amidst the sanctions of Western countries on Moscow. Although he admitted that India needed cheap energy for development, but Lutnik argued that such agreements highlight imbalance in global trade diplomacy.
