West Bengal Higher Secondary Education Council (WBCHSE) has released the 12th class result on Wednesday, but this year’s result is in discussion for a special reason. In fact, this time the number of regular students has been recorded in the 12th board examination. This decline is the result of not only data but a special policy change.

Only 4.73 lakh students took exams in 2025

According to WBCHSE, a total of 4,73,919 regular students appeared in the examination this year, compared to 7,55,324 last year. That is, a shortage of 2,81,405 students has been seen. Council President Chiranjeeb Bhattacharya said that this decline is due to a change in the age related policy in 2017.

Why the number of students decreased?

Bhattacharya said that in the year 2017, the minimum age for admission in class 5 was fixed at 10 years. Many students of that year could not meet this age criteria and were stopped. Even when this batch reached the 10th examination in 2023, many students could not move forward due to age compulsion. For this reason, a large number of students could not appear in the examination even in 12th.

The WBCSE president clarified that the number of students in the secondary examination of 2023 declined and the impact of that is now shown in the higher secondary examination of 2025.

Now the exam system is going to change

Bhattacharya, while releasing the result, also made a big announcement that 2025 will be the last year when WBCSE will take the 12th board examination every year. From the coming session, examinations will be in the semester system.

The wait for millions of students of West Bengal is over today. West Bengal Higher Secondary Education Council (WBCHSE) has released the result of class 12th. The results can be seen by visiting the official website of the student board. The board has released the results through a press conference.

The board announced the result by holding a press conference at Vidyasagar Bhawan in Saltlake, Kolkata at 12:30 pm. However, students can see their results through online websites and mobile apps after 2 pm.

When and where will the marksheet get?

The board also informed that the real marksheets and certificates of the students will be given to schools at 55 distribution centers of the entire state from 10 am tomorrow i.e. on 8 May 2025. School heads and teachers have been asked to distribute them to their students on the same day.

How many numbers will be passed

According to the rules of the West Bengal Board, it is necessary to score at least 30% marks to pass in every subject. If a student fails in one or two subjects, then he will be eligible for the compartment examination. The board will release information about these supplementary exams separately.
