On returning to Scotland, he realized that he had no memorable thing left of his father, except the voice of the voice that was sent by the father from the hospital.

Memories alive again from AI

According to a report by The Economics Times, in July, he used this Voice Note and enlisted the help of AI platform called Eleven Labs. It is a voice generator tool that started in 2022. He made new messages with his father’s voice by paying a monthly fee of $ 22. Now from the app, they feel as if they are living the conversations that have never happened. As soon as it is heard on the app – “Hi son, how are you?” So everything feels like reality. Even Nickname “Bosey” given by father is heard in the same words.

Family doubts and acceptance

Initially, due to religious beliefs, his family objected to this technology. But gradually they also accepted it. Now DOS Santos and his wife, who were detected of cancer in 2013, are thinking that they too should get their digital voice clone prepared so that their presence remains with the family in the coming time.

‘Grief Tech’ growing market

The experience of DOS Santos is part of the trend which is now called “Grief Tech”. That is, such AI techniques which are being made to give mental support to people after the departure of loved ones. Startups like America’s Storyfile and HereAFTER AI are already presenting tools that can make someone’s digital identity or voice -based interactive avatar.

In this connection, a company named Eternos also started in 2024. Its founder Robert Lokesio took the initiative to create AI-based digital twin after the father’s death. So far, more than 400 people have made their interactive avatar on this platform. The subscription scheme starting from $ 25 is available here, which keeps the stories and memories of a person to the family even after their departure.

Moral and emotional questions

Although this technology has opened a new way to handle mourning, but many serious questions are also arising with it. Issues such as consent, data security and business gains are now part of a big debate. Experts believe that this technology consoles the human being, but somewhere it does not cause the process of real mourning or change.

Subhash Kak, Professor of Computer Science at Oklahoma State University in America, believes that if the development of AI continues at this speed, till 2300, the whole world’s population can be reduced to only 10 crore, which will be equal to the population of today’s United Kingdom.

AI’s effect

In an interview to New York Post, Professor Kak described the situation as “terrible”. He said that most people are unable to understand how deep and far -reaching AI will be. According to him, as the functioning is being automatically, the usefulness of humans is decreasing. When the machines do all the work, the need to produce and raise people will also decrease.

He says that in many countries of the world, population is already decreasing like Japan, China, South Korea and Europe. In such a situation, if this trend continues, then in the coming time, big cities like London, New York can be deserted, where only machines and metal structures will remain, not humans.

Professor Kak also believes that AI will never be completely “aware”, that is, it will not bring human consciousness but it will do every thing that humans do. When all the responsibilities start fulfilling AI, then the need of humans will gradually end.

He also said that people are now avoiding giving birth to children, and this thinking will be stronger over time. With the arrival of AI, the priorities of career and life are changing, which is also affecting family structure and society.

He also gave an example of Allen Musk, who has already warned that the decline in birth rate is the biggest threat to humanity. Musk believes that this is why space colonies are being talked about, so that human civilization can be saved.
