<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Child education:</strong> Dr. (Prof.) V.K., a member of the Health Department of NITI Aayog Paul recently attracted attention to a serious health issue and said that one-fourth of school children of our country are not able to get enough sleep today. This situation is not only harming their mental and physical health, but also affecting their overall development.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The report was prepared in collaboration with the National Health System Resource Center (NHSRC) and Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, which gave detailed information about the sleep related habits and their effects of school teenagers aged 12 to 18 years. Its main objective was to ensure how lack of sleep affects children&#8217;s ability to think and understand.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>It is very important to sleep for 7 to 8 hours</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Dr. Paul described sleep as a fundamental biological need and said that it is very important for the brain&#8217;s good functioning, better memory, physical immune system and better performance. He insisted that every children must get at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep per day, so that their mental and physical balance remains.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">He also told that in today&#8217;s educational environment, lack of sleep is affecting the health of children. There are many reasons behind this problem, the biggest reason is screen time. Excessive use of equipment like mobile phones, tablets, laptops and TVs has become the biggest obstruction in children&#8217;s sleep. Using social media till late night, playing video games or watching online content is spoiling the natural time of children to sleep.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Symptoms of depression found in 60 percent of children</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The figures of this report are even more shocking. It was found that about 22.5 percent of the child does not get sleep, which is a very big problem. Not only this, 60 percent of the children who attended it were found to have symptoms of depression, while 65.7 percent of the participants saw a decline in cognitive weakness, ie thinking and understanding capabilities. This is clear that lack of sleep is not only the cause of fatigue or laziness, but it can also become the root of serious mental and intellectual problems. Lack of sleep in children also affects their concentration, emotional balance and performance of studies.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Dr. Latika Bhalla, senior advisor and child pediatrician of the Child Health Institute at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, said that this report brings out a concern to increase the truth. He said that due to lack of adequate sleep, children are facing mentally instability, due to which their studies are also being affected. This condition can have a serious impact on their career and life in a long time. It was also told in the report that not only the use of screen time, but also the strict routine of the school, educational pressure and family lifestyle is also affecting the sleep of children. If children go to school early in the morning and are busy in homework or tuition till late night, then they do not get enough sleep.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Make a time table with children keeping in mind the sleep of children</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Therefore it is necessary that school, family and policy makers together solve this problem. Schools should make timelines keeping in mind the sleep of children. Parents should pay special attention to the time of children sleeping and create an environment in the house that encourages good sleep. Dr. Paul also said that if we want our children to be intelligent, enabled and self -sufficient, then we have to give priority to their sleep. Sleep should be made a part of health policy just like education and nutrition.</p>
