ICC Fined Pakistan For Slow Over: The first match of the 2-match Test series being played between Pakistan and Bangladesh was played in Dhaka. Pakistan had to face a crushing defeat of 104 runs in the match. Now after the defeat, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has given severe punishment to Pakistan, which also includes deducting 40% of the match fees. ICC issued a release informing about the action against Pakistan.

Slow over rate becomes difficult for Pakistan

It was told in the release that Pakistan has been fined due to slow over rate. In this fine, along with 40% match fee deduction, a penalty of 8 points has been given in the current cycle of the World Test Championship 2025-27.

After this punishment, Pakistan is now at eighth place in the World Test Championship rankings with four points, which is just above West Indies. This is really a big blow for Pakistan.

This penalty was imposed by Jeff Crowe of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees.

Under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Staff, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined 5% of their match fee for each over bowled if their team fails to bowl an over within the stipulated time. Pakistan was 8 overs behind, due to which a fine of 40% of the match fee was imposed.

The release further stated that as per Article 16.11.2 of the World Test Championship playing conditions, teams lose one championship point for every over bowled short, resulting in Pakistan losing eight points in the rankings.

Pakistan captain Shan Masood pleaded guilty and accepted the proposed punishment, eliminating the need for a formal trial.

Let us tell you that these allegations were made by field umpires Richard Kettleborough and Kumar Dharmasena as well as third umpire Allahuddin Palekar and fourth umpire Ghazi Sohail.
