IISc Bengaluru Next Gen BTech courses : Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru has announced the launch of three new BTech programs from the 2026 academic session. These new courses have been designed for students who want to be prepared to face the technological and interdisciplinary challenges of the future.

IISc is now further expanding its engineering portfolio and aims to equip students with new age skills and research capability. Admission to these new BTech programs will be done through JoSAA 2026 counseling on the basis of JEE Advanced 2026 scores.

Which new BTech programs has been launched by IISc?

IISc Bengaluru has started three new undergraduate engineering programs from 2026. Which includes BTech in Materials Science and Engineering, BTech in Mechanics and Computing and BTech in Aerospace Engineering. These courses aim to enable students to innovate in interdisciplinary and future-focused areas. Students will be taught scientific fundamentals as well as practical engineering and computational skills.

How will the admission process be?

Admission to the new BTech course will be based on the score of JEE Advanced 2026 and through JoSAA 2026 counselling. Earlier, IISc’s BTech Mathematics and Computing program used to take admission through its own portal. Now with the inclusion of these new courses in JoSAA counselling, the admission process will become even simpler and easier for all students.

Which undergraduate programs did IISc offer earlier?

IISc earlier offered two main undergraduate programmes. Which includes Bachelor of Science (Research) and B Tech in Mathematics and Computing. Gradually the institute has increased its contribution to undergraduate education, while maintaining its reputation in research-oriented education.

Why are new programs necessary?

According to IISc, these new programs will prepare students to solve complex national and global problems. This course emphasizes on interdisciplinary learning and will cover core engineering principles, basic sciences, computational and analytical tools, modern technological applications. In the initial semester, students will be given a strong foundation in mathematics, engineering sciences and computational methods. The blend of research-oriented learning and practical engineering will prepare students to make research contributions to industry.

IISc believes that students in these programs will develop strong analytical abilities, advanced computational skills, problem-solving skills, research-oriented thinking, and practical engineering knowledge. These skills will make students in high demand in fields like aerospace, manufacturing, artificial intelligence, material technology and advanced scientific research.

JEE Advanced 2026

This year JEE Advanced 2026 will be conducted through IIT Roorkee, the date of which is 17 May 2026. Top 2.5 lakh students in JEE Main 2026 will be considered eligible for JEE Advanced. The candidate must fulfill the age criteria. It is necessary to have passed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics in 2025 or 2026. Any candidate can appear for JEE Advanced maximum twice in two consecutive years.
