IIT and NIT Fees Structure: Lakhs of students dream of studying engineering in the country and when it comes to top colleges, the names of IIT (Indian Institutes of Technology) and NIT (National Institutes of Technology) come first. Students take admission in these institutes after passing difficult examinations like JEE Main and JEE Advanced, but before admission, the biggest question in the mind of every student and parent is that how much does it cost to study in IIT and NIT and what is the difference between the two. Along with this, there is a lot of curiosity regarding placement as to which institute gives a better job. So today let us tell you what is the difference in fees of IIT and NIT and in which one you will get good placement.

What are IIT and NIT?

These are considered to be the two most prestigious institutes for engineering studies in India. IITs are the oldest and top engineering institutes in the country. They were established around 1950. To get admission in IIT, students have to pass JEE Advanced. NITs are also very good engineering colleges and were started around 1960. To get admission in these, one has to pass JEE Main only. Both these institutes come under the central government and offer courses like engineering, technology, research.

What is the difference in fees of IIT and NIT?
1. IIT Fees – The cost of studying B.Tech in IIT is usually a little higher. Here the total fees for 4 years is around Rs 8 lakh to 12 lakh. Which includes tuition fees, hostel, library, exam and other fees. SC/ST students get considerable relaxation in fees. For example, in an institute like IIT Kanpur, the total fees for four years can be around Rs 10 lakh.
2. Fees of NIT – The cost of studying in NIT is slightly less than that of IIT. Here the total fees for B.Tech for 4 years is around Rs 5 lakh to Rs 8 lakh. In many NITs the tuition fees for SC/ST and some reserved categories is almost zero. However, other expenses like hostel and facility charges have to be paid separately. For example, the total expenditure in NIT Suratkal can be around Rs 6-8 lakh.

Also read – Failed students will get second chance, re-admission process started through NIOS
Main difference of fees between IIT and NIT
IIT fees are a little higher. The fees of NIT are slightly less. In both of these, after adding hostel and other expenses, the total expenditure comes to around Rs 5-12 lakh.
In which field do you get better placement?

IITs are considered to be the top engineering colleges of India, hence placements here are very strong. The average package here can be Rs 20 to 30 lakh per year. Some students get even higher packages than this. Big companies like Google, Microsoft, Amazon etc. come here. NITs are also very good colleges and good companies come here also. The average package here is Rs 10 to 15 lakh per year. Placement in top NITs like NIT Trichy, NIT Suratkal is very good. Many students get jobs in multinational companies.
Also read – Gujarat Board 10th result released, 83.86% students passed, know easy ways to check
