This time a surprising picture of placement has emerged from IIT Bombay, one of the top educational institutions of the country. On one hand, the placement rate fell slightly to around 70 percent, while on the other hand, there was a good increase in the salary received by the students. The average annual package has increased to Rs 26.45 lakh, which is more than 10 percent compared to last year. That means the number of people getting jobs decreased slightly, but those who got jobs got better salaries.

The placement figures for session 2024-25 show that the demand for students of IIT Bombay has not reduced after the ongoing uncertainty regarding recruitment across the world. Many big companies came to the campus and made offers to the students. During this period, 417 companies participated, which included companies related to engineering, IT, consulting, finance, research and new technology.

A total of 2,469 students had registered for placement. Of these, 2,040 students actively participated in both the phases. Ultimately 1,422 students accepted the job offers. Apart from this, 260 students also accepted the pre-placement offers already received.

Students went this way too

According to reports, not every registered student participated in the placement. Many students chose a different path. Some decided to start a startup, while some took the path of higher education or research. In particular, PhD students often move on to post-doctoral research or research fellowships, hence their placement numbers appear to be low.

so many offers given

Sector wise, engineering and technology companies made the maximum offers of 429. After this, IT and software coding companies gave 393 offers. 126 offers were received from consulting sector, 114 from data analytics and 112 from finance sector.

This time interest from international companies was also seen. 65 students accepted offers from companies in Japan, Taiwan, Europe, Middle East, South East Asia and America. At the same time, multinational companies working in India gave jobs to 840 students and Indian companies gave jobs to 517 students.

According to the course, the performance of B.Tech students was the best. Out of 829 B.Tech students included in the placement, 678 got jobs. Students doing dual degree also performed well. The placement rate of M.Tech students was more than 72 percent.

These departments remained at the forefront

Talking about departments, Computer Science and Engineering remained at the forefront. Out of 277 students of this department, 258 got jobs. 244 students of Electrical Engineering and 213 students of Mechanical Engineering got offers. Civil and chemical engineering students also got a good number of offers.

The situation of PhD students was a little different. This time 150 PhD students participated in the placement, which is more than last year. However, the number of people getting jobs decreased from 32 to 28. But their average salary increased from Rs 18.46 lakh to Rs 19.64 lakh.
