Body temperature above 40 degrees Celsius can be fatal.

Heatwave: India Meteorological Department has issued heat wave warning in states like Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand. Due to this, the temperature in many areas has already crossed 40 degrees Celsius. As the heat is increasing, a big question is arising that how much heat can the human body withstand. Let us know what is the answer to this question.

wet bulb temperature

The human body not only reacts to temperature but it also reacts to the combination of heat and moisture. This is called wet bulb temperature. Earlier scientists believed that humans could tolerate wet bulb temperatures up to 35 degrees Celsius. But new research from Pennsylvania State University suggests that the real limit is much lower. Around 30°C to 31°C. Beyond this limit the body is unable to cool itself effectively.

Why does humidity make heat more dangerous?

In dry heat, sweat evaporates and cools the body. But in humid environment, sweat does not evaporate easily. This means that even at low temperatures the body can overheat rapidly. This makes the situation much more dangerous than dry heat of 45 degrees Celsius or more.

When does the body enter the danger zone?

Once the body temperature crosses 40 degrees Celsius, the risk of heat stroke becomes serious. In this stage the cooling system of the body stops working. Due to this, symptoms like dizziness, confusion and even fainting start appearing. If treatment is not received, it can prove fatal within a few hours.

effect on vital organs

Excessive heat not only makes you uncomfortable but also affects your vital organs. There may be swelling in the brain which may lead to confusion or seizures. The heart has to work harder. This increases the risk of increased pressure on the heart.

Rainfall on Basant Panchami 2026: According to the Panchang, today 23rd January is the fifth day of Shukla Paksha of Magh month. Today the festival of Basant Panchami or Saraswati Puja is being celebrated across the country. The festival of Basant Panchami also symbolizes the arrival of spring season. In such a situation, let us know what the rain indicates today.

Heavy rain and dark clouds on Basant Panchami

On 23 January, on Basant Panchami, heavy rain started early in the morning and dark clouds took up residence in the sky. However, the Meteorological Department (IMD) had already issued a rain alert (Weather Report) for January 23. It is raining heavily in Delhi-NCR and surrounding places on Friday. There is also a possibility of storm and lightning. On one hand people are facing problems due to rain, on the other hand it is also being linked with auspicious and inauspicious signs.

Rain is not just a seasonal phenomenon, there is a deeper meaning hidden in it.

The festival of Basant Panchami is dedicated to Mother Saraswati. Besides, it is also linked with the arrival of Rituraj spring. On this auspicious day, everyone worships knowledge, wisdom, art and new consciousness and takes blessings. But when it rains on the day of Basant Panchami, many problems arise. Along with this, a question also comes to mind that rain on a holy day is not an auspicious or inauspicious sign. Let us tell you that from the point of view of religion and astrology, rain is not just a seasonal phenomenon, but it is considered a special sign.

What indications in the scriptures

According to the scriptures, rain on the beginning of spring is an indicator of prosperity. It is believed that if there is light and calm rain on Basant Panchami, it is auspicious and Mother Saraswati showers blessings. Such rain increases the flow of knowledge, wisdom and positive energy.

According to astrologer Anish Vyas, on the day of Basant Panchami, the Moon is in Pisces, which is mostly considered auspicious. The lord of Pisces is Jupiter and the rains under the influence of Jupiter are associated with the strength of knowledge, religion and moral values. But if the influence of Rahu-Ketu or Saturn is strong and there is heavy or unusual rain, then it is considered a sign of change in the weather cycle and natural imbalance in the future.

Severe cold has worsened the condition in many states of North India. For the first time, the minimum temperature of 2.9 degrees Celsius has been recorded in Delhi. India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that severe cold is expected to continue for the next few days. At some places in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Uttarakhand, the temperature has been recorded below zero degrees, while in Haryana and Punjab the temperature remains near freezing. There is a possibility of severe cold wave in many parts.

Weather in Delhi
The first cold wave of this season was recorded in Delhi. At many places the temperature dropped below 3.0 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature recorded at Ayanagar was 2.9 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature at Palam station was 3.0 degrees Celsius, the lowest in 13 years. According to IMD, the minimum temperature was recorded at 4.8 degrees Celsius at Safdarjung Observatory, the main meteorological center of Delhi. The situation is expected to remain similar for the next 2 days. Yellow alert has been issued regarding this.

The temperature will fall further in UP
The mercury will fall further in Uttar Pradesh from Monday (January 12) due to the effect of cold westerly winds. There are chances of increasing melting and cold wave conditions in western UP. Most areas of the state got relief due to sunshine on Sunday. In the last 2 days, an increase of 3 to 5 degrees has been recorded in the maximum and minimum temperatures due to the effect of sunlight during the day.

The Meteorological Department has expressed the possibility of cold wave in 6 districts of Western UP, Ghaziabad, Amroha, Moradabad, Rampur, Bareilly and Sambhal. Also, there is a possibility of 3 to 5 degree drop in day and night mercury in the next three days. There is a possibility of light to moderate fog in 23 districts.

Atul Singh, senior meteorologist of Zonal Meteorological Science Centre, Lucknow, said that after the effect of the disturbance ends in UP from Monday, the wind direction will again become north westerly. Cold wave like conditions may arise in western UP. There will be some relief due to sunshine during the day, but it may remain bitterly cold till night. The effect of fog will be visible in the morning in the Terai areas.

Cold havoc in Punjab-Haryana
Due to severe cold in many parts of Punjab and Haryana, the minimum temperature remained below the average for this season. According to the Meteorological Department, Bathinda was the coldest, where the minimum temperature was recorded at 1.6 degrees Celsius. Hisar in Haryana was the coldest, where the minimum temperature was recorded at 2.2 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department said that Faridkot of Punjab was in the grip of severe cold with a minimum temperature of 2.9 degrees Celsius.
Now the weather patterns have changed across the country. According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), it is now getting cold in the states from North India to South. Even though the sun is still shining in the afternoon, it is becoming cold in the morning and the nights are now becoming cold. The trend of falling temperature continues. In the plains of the southern states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, cold has spread such terror that life has come to a standstill.

Due to increasing cold and strong winds, the temperature is continuously falling in both the Telugu states, due to which normal life has been badly affected. In these states, people now have to resort to warm clothes even during the day, while the scene at night has become even more gruesome. It is quite cold in mid-November itself.

Orange alert issued in Telangana
The situation is becoming more serious in Telangana. The mercury has reached single digit figures in many districts of the state. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for the next three days in 10 districts of the state. Asifabad, Sangareddy, Adilabad, Vikarabad, Medak, Nirmal, Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Mancherial and Warangal districts recorded temperatures between 6 to 10 degrees Celsius.

Increasing cases of feeling cold and difficulty in breathing
This severe cold is affecting the children, the poor, the destitute and the laborers working in the open the most. The cases of cold, cough and difficulty in breathing are continuously increasing in many districts of the state. Young children and the elderly are especially at risk. The administration has appealed to the people not to leave their homes unnecessarily and to make all possible arrangements to keep themselves warm.
