The month of January is about to end, but the cold and bad weather in the country does not seem to be stopping yet. Releasing the latest forecast, the Indian Meteorological Department has said that on January 27, the weather may take a sudden turn in many parts of the country. According to the Meteorological Department, rain, strong winds and storms are expected in a total of 13 states including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, Tamil Nadu. The Meteorological Department says that due to the activation of Western Disturbance, the weather patterns are going to change completely, especially in North India, due to which the temperature may drop and cold may increase.

An active western disturbance is moving towards Delhi-NCR, due to which the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert. There is a possibility of cloudy sky throughout the day in the capital and surrounding areas. Light rain and thundershowers may be accompanied by strong winds at a speed of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour. According to the Meteorological Department, there are chances of rain from afternoon till night. The minimum temperature is likely to be around 9 degrees Celsius and the maximum temperature is likely to be around 19 degrees Celsius. Due to clouds and rain, cold can be felt even during the day.

Fear of rain and hailstorm in Uttar Pradesh

The weather is expected to be more active in Uttar Pradesh on 27 and 28 January. According to the Meteorological Department, there may be moderate to heavy rain in many parts of the state. There is also a possibility of hailstorm and thunderstorm at some places in western Uttar Pradesh. The effect of rain and strong winds can be seen from Meerut, Ghaziabad, Shamli to Ayodhya and Sultanpur. There is a possibility of a drop in the temperature after the rain, due to which the maximum temperature in areas like Noida, Ghaziabad and Meerut may remain around 19 degrees Celsius.

Western disturbance became active again in Rajasthan

A new western disturbance is also becoming active in Rajasthan, due to which the weather may worsen in many parts of the state. There is a possibility of light to moderate rain in Bikaner, Jaipur, Ajmer, Kota and Bharatpur divisions. According to the Meteorological Department, lightning may occur in some areas and strong winds may blow at a speed of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour. There is also a possibility of hailstorm at some places. However, IMD says that after January 27, there is hope of gradual relief from cold wave in the state.

Alert of rain and snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir

The Meteorological Department has also issued a warning for Jammu and Kashmir. There may be light rain or snowfall in many areas on January 27 and 28. There is a danger of avalanche in high altitude areas. The weather may remain partly bad for the next two days, while after that the weather is likely to remain dry. The administration has advised people to avoid going to avalanche prone areas.

Weather will change in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry also

Changes in weather can also be seen in the South Indian states of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of light rain here. The effect of easterly winds blowing from Comorin Sea towards Kerala coast will be visible in these areas. It may rain at some places during the afternoon and evening. Rain activities may increase on January 28, although the weather is expected to remain dry again between January 28 and 31.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a big update late on Tuesday night and said that the deep depression over the Strait of Malacca has now turned into a cyclonic storm ‘Senyar’. This storm can hit the coast of Indonesia by Wednesday (26 November 2025) afternoon. According to IMD, in the last six hours the system took the form of a storm while moving towards the west at a speed of about 10 kilometers per hour. Because of this, the weather patterns have suddenly changed not only in South-East Asia but also in the coastal areas of India.

The Strait of Malacca is the place that connects the Andaman Sea to the South China Sea, so any storm formed here affects the eastern coasts of India. According to the IMD, the storm will maintain its intensity for the next 24 hours and then move in a west-southwest direction and may turn eastwards after 48 hours. Wind speed can reach 70–90 km per hour on Wednesday.

Heavy rain alert in Andaman and Nicobar

The first impact of the cyclonic storm will be seen on Andaman and Nicobar Islands. IMD said in its national bulletin that there will be heavy to very heavy rain at many places on 26 and 27 November. There will be less rain on 28–29 November but sea winds may remain strong. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea in the Andaman region.

Second system also active in Bay of Bengal

Apart from the storm over the Strait of Malacca, a distinct low pressure area has also formed in the south-west region of the Bay of Bengal. According to IMD, this system may turn into depression in the next 24 hours. Due to its movement in the north-northwest direction, there are chances of heavy rains in many districts of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala. Heavy rains have started in many areas of Tamil Nadu since Monday. Many parts of Tuticorin district have been submerged.

Schools and colleges closed in Tamil Nadu

In view of heavy rains and waterlogging, schools and colleges were closed in many districts of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday, but no official announcement has been made yet regarding the closure on Wednesday. IMD has warned that heavy rains with thunderstorms may continue in Tamil Nadu between 26–29 November. In such a situation, there is a possibility that institutions may be closed again in many districts, but this will be confirmed by the local administration.

Heavy rain in Kerala and Mahe on 26 and 27 November

The weather is changing rapidly in Kerala also. IMD estimates that heavy rain with thunder, lightning and high waves in the sea may be seen on Wednesday and Thursday. People living in coastal areas have been advised to take necessary precautions.

The intermittent rains in Delhi-NCR on Monday disturbed the normal life. The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in the coming days. In view of this alert, orders were given to operate all schools and offices in Gurugram on 2 September in online format. At the same time, it was decided to keep all schools closed on 2 September in Chandigarh.

Gurugram District Disaster Management Authority issued a consultation on Monday, stating that the city received more than 100 mm of rain from 3 pm to 7 pm. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rains on September 2.

Work from Home in Gurugram

All corporate offices and private institutions were advised to allow employees to work from home. All schools were instructed to conduct online classes on 2 September.

Due to continuous rains, there was a situation of severe traffic jam on the Delhi-Jaipur highway. Long queues of vehicles started from Sirhaul border to Manesar. The Wazirabad area received more than 85 mm of rain, which led to the problem of waterlogging and traffic jam in many places.

How long will it rain?

Visibility at Palam Airport decreased to 800 meters during heavy rains. Mahesh Palawat, vice -president of the private weather agency Skymet, said that this rain is due to monsoon and unusually active Western disturbances.

In Delhi-NCR, intermittent rains may continue till September 5. The entire North India is in the grip of heavy rains at this time. At the same time, heavy rains in Chandigarh and surrounding areas have disturbed life. The roads are filled with water, many pits have been filled with water. Flood situation has also been created in the fields and canals.

After the heavy rains on 1 September, the water level of Yamuna and other rivers also increased, due to which the Haryana-Punjab administration has taken precautionary steps. The Chandigarh administration ordered all schools to be closed on Tuesday (September 2), while relief and rescue work has been intensified in many affected districts.

Administration preparations and meetings

Officials of Punjab and Haryana have reviewed the situation in view of the continuous rains and increasing threat. Haryana CM Naib Singh Saini discussed the situation with the Deputy Commissioners through a video conference and directed to ensure the arrangement of shelter and food for the flood affected people.

Many gates of Hathinikund barrage have been opened so that the pressure of Yamuna can be reduced. More than 100 mm of water has been recorded in Chandigarh due to continuous rains, while the district administration in Haryana has been ordered to be vigilant and keep all the closed schools completely closed.

Flood situation worsens in Punjab

Many districts of Punjab are facing rain and floods. Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Fazilka, Kapurthala, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Hoshiarpur and Amritsar are the most affected. The rains in Hoshiarpur district made the situation more serious, where water entered the villages and damaged crops. In Garhshankar and surrounding areas, dozens of villages and streets are submerged.

After overnight rain, houses were flooded in villages like Hakumatpur, Baddon, Alawalpur, Bhana, Thakkarwal and Khanpur. SDM Sanjeev Kumar of Garhshankar said that the administration has provided food and drink for the affected families through gurdwaras.

The effect of rain in Himachal and Jammu and Kashmir also

The heavy rains in the catchment areas of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir have made the situation of Punjab-Haryana more critical. Explain that the reason for this rain in the north load is the Western disturbance. Sutlej, Vyas and Ravi rivers are in spate due to heavy rains. Due to the rise in the water level of seasonal rivers, the low -lying areas have been flooded.

Officials say that the water level may increase further due to continuous rains, in such a situation, people have been appealed to go to safe places and not to go out unnecessarily. Relief teams are constantly monitoring the affected areas so that the needy can get immediate help.
