The weather continues to wreak havoc with severe cold in many parts of the country. Cold wave and dense fog have affected life in North India. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has issued a warning of rain in three states of North India and snowfall in hilly areas. At the same time, dense fog will be seen in the plains in the morning.

According to the Meteorological Department, there may be rain in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir and snowfall in high altitude areas on January 2, 2026. There is a possibility of snow falling in Manali, Dalhousie and Lahaul Valley of Himachal. There are chances of rain in Dehradun, Nainital and Almora of Uttarakhand.

Heavy fog in Delhi-NCR

There will be dense fog in Delhi on Friday morning (January 2, 2026). Visibility may remain very low in North, West, South and South-West Delhi. The temperature in the morning can remain between 5 to 9 degrees Celsius. Apart from this, it has been advised to take special caution while driving on Delhi-Dehradun Expressway and Akshardham area.

Effect of cold wave in Uttar Pradesh

Cold wave and dense fog alert has been issued in many districts of Uttar Pradesh. Problems may increase due to cold and fog in the morning in more than 25 districts including Lucknow, Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Agra, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Ayodhya and Barabanki. The minimum temperature in Lucknow may drop to 6 degrees.

Severe cold and fog in Bihar

There has been a warning of severe cold wave in Bihar on 2nd and 3rd January. There will be dense fog in many districts including Patna, Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur, Purnia, Katihar and Kishanganj. The minimum temperature in the capital Patna can reach 5 degrees Celsius.

Cold in the morning in Jharkhand, relief during the day

There will be effect of cold wave in Jharkhand in the morning. In cities like Ranchi, Jamshedpur and Dhanbad the temperature can remain between 4 to 8 degrees. The weather is likely to remain clear after noon.

Possibility of snowfall in Himachal Pradesh

There may be light snowfall in Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, Kullu and Manali of Himachal Pradesh. The temperature in Shimla may fall by 2 degrees Celsius, which will increase the cold further.

Condition of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh

Dense fog will affect Sikar, Jaipur, Alwar, Bharatpur and Jhunjhunu districts of Rajasthan. Road and rail traffic may be affected due to low visibility in the morning. There is a possibility of light rain in Gwalior, Bhind, Morena and Datia of Madhya Pradesh. The weather will be dry in Bhopal, but it will remain cold.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a big update late on Tuesday night and said that the deep depression over the Strait of Malacca has now turned into a cyclonic storm ‘Senyar’. This storm can hit the coast of Indonesia by Wednesday (26 November 2025) afternoon. According to IMD, in the last six hours the system took the form of a storm while moving towards the west at a speed of about 10 kilometers per hour. Because of this, the weather patterns have suddenly changed not only in South-East Asia but also in the coastal areas of India.

The Strait of Malacca is the place that connects the Andaman Sea to the South China Sea, so any storm formed here affects the eastern coasts of India. According to the IMD, the storm will maintain its intensity for the next 24 hours and then move in a west-southwest direction and may turn eastwards after 48 hours. Wind speed can reach 70–90 km per hour on Wednesday.

Heavy rain alert in Andaman and Nicobar

The first impact of the cyclonic storm will be seen on Andaman and Nicobar Islands. IMD said in its national bulletin that there will be heavy to very heavy rain at many places on 26 and 27 November. There will be less rain on 28–29 November but sea winds may remain strong. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea in the Andaman region.

Second system also active in Bay of Bengal

Apart from the storm over the Strait of Malacca, a distinct low pressure area has also formed in the south-west region of the Bay of Bengal. According to IMD, this system may turn into depression in the next 24 hours. Due to its movement in the north-northwest direction, there are chances of heavy rains in many districts of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala. Heavy rains have started in many areas of Tamil Nadu since Monday. Many parts of Tuticorin district have been submerged.

Schools and colleges closed in Tamil Nadu

In view of heavy rains and waterlogging, schools and colleges were closed in many districts of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday, but no official announcement has been made yet regarding the closure on Wednesday. IMD has warned that heavy rains with thunderstorms may continue in Tamil Nadu between 26–29 November. In such a situation, there is a possibility that institutions may be closed again in many districts, but this will be confirmed by the local administration.

Heavy rain in Kerala and Mahe on 26 and 27 November

The weather is changing rapidly in Kerala also. IMD estimates that heavy rain with thunder, lightning and high waves in the sea may be seen on Wednesday and Thursday. People living in coastal areas have been advised to take necessary precautions.

Delhi-ncr weather update: Despite the prediction of rain, there has been a low rainfall in Delhi-NCR so far. There is definitely a movement of clouds, but the clouds are not raining. People are troubled by heat due to strong sunlight and humidity. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), there is a possibility of light rain on Friday.

Rain in many parts of North India
Many parts of North India like UP, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan and Jammu are receiving heavy rains. There is a process of rain in these states and Red, Orange and Yellow Alert have also been released in some areas.

Rivers boom- Things in Prayagraj, Varanasi and Patna are serious
Rivers are in spate in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Bihar. The water level of Ganga in Prayagraj and Varanasi has increased considerably. In Varanasi, Ganga has knocked on the last stairs of all the ghats. The flood of Ganga and other rivers in about 20 districts including Patna in Bihar has disturbed life.

Warning of heavy rain in Rajasthan
The Meteorological Department has said that the low pressure area over southwest Bihar and Uttar Pradesh is moving forward, due to which there is a possibility of heavy rains in the eastern parts of Rajasthan from July 17. Light to moderate rain may occur in Bikaner division in the next two days, while light rain is expected in only some places in Jodhpur division.

Amarnath Yatra postponed for one day
Jammu and Kashmir Information Department said that the Amarnath Yatra has been postponed from Pahalgam and Baltal base camps on Thursday due to heavy rains. To repair the damage caused on both the routes, the Border Roads Organization has deployed a large number of personnel and machines, so that the journey can be resumed from Friday.

Landslide and waterlogging in Kerala, red alert issued
Due to continuous rains, landslides occurred in Kozhikode district of Kerala and water entered many houses. The administration has issued an alert due to the rise in the water level of rivers in Kasargod district. IMD has issued a red alert in Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasargod. There is a warning of heavy rains on July 19-20 in Kozhikode and Malappuram districts.

Alert of heavy rain in Uttarakhand too
There is a warning of heavy to very heavy rain in 5 districts including Dehradun, Nainital in Uttarakhand. The Meteorological Department has said that in the next 7 days, there may be heavy rains in Dehradun, as well as the possibility of lightning fall.
