In a major change in America’s immigration system, US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has announced that now the maximum validity period of Employment Authorization Documents (EAD) will be reduced. This decision will impact millions of Indian professionals and their families. The agency says that this change is necessary to strengthen security checks and detect potential risks.

USCIS said the new policy will allow for more frequent screening of people seeking permission to work in the US, to prevent fraud and to identify individuals with malicious intentions so that they can begin the process of removing them from the country.

People should not become a threat to public safety

Director Joseph Edlow linked the decision to public safety concerns. He said reducing the employment-permission period would ensure that people who want to work in the United States do not pose a threat to public safety and do not promote anti-national ideologies.

Foreign citizens should be checked frequently

Referring to a recent incident, he said that the person who attacked National Guard soldiers in Washington was allowed to come into the country by the previous administration. After this incident, it has become more important that foreign citizens are checked repeatedly. These changes directly impact several categories that are used by Indian citizens in large numbers, such as employment-based green card applicants and H-1B workers who are undergoing processing.

EAD valid for only 18 months instead of 5 years

Now according to the new policy, EADs given to refugees, asylum seekers, those seeking relief from removal process and those applying for Green Card (INA 245) were earlier valid for five years, but now it will be valid only for 18 months. The policy alert states that this rule applies to all applications pending or filed on or after December 5, 2025.

This change could create new concerns for Indian applicants who are already facing long waits for green cards for years. Many Indians rely on long-term EADs and advance parole documents to remain employed. The Indian expatriate community is the largest beneficiary of employment-based visas in the US. They will be most affected by this change.

Political debate has started once again in America regarding H-1B Visa. President Donald Trump’s recent order calls for new restrictions and a fee of approximately $1,00,000 (about Rs 83 lakh) on non-immigrant workers, especially H-1B visa holders. The purpose of this step of Trump is said to be to promote domestic employment. Apart from this, American lawmakers and industry experts believe that this decision can be harmful for both America’s technological leadership and India-US partnership.

Four prominent lawmakers from California and Texas, Jimmy Panetta, Ami Bera, Salud Carbajal and Julie Johnson, have written a letter demanding President Trump to reconsider this policy. He says that the H-1B visa program is the fundamental basis of the American economy and innovation. Limiting it will weaken America’s competitiveness in areas like AI, cyber security and scientific research. The lawmakers wrote that this move would prove to be a major blow not only to talented foreign professionals, but also to American startups and research institutions.

There will be a direct impact on India

These MPs specifically took the name of India in their letter and said that this policy can deeply hurt the India-US strategic partnership. He wrote, ‘High-skilled technical talent coming from India is an integral part of our innovation ecosystem. Limiting the H-1B visa program will not only hinder technological progress but will also affect relations with our democratic ally India. According to the information, last year 71% H-1B visas were issued to Indian citizens, which makes it clear that India is the biggest beneficiary country of this program.

Why should America step back when China is increasing investment?

The lawmakers said that when powers like China are investing billions of dollars in artificial intelligence and robotics, America should focus on attracting talent, not limiting it. He warned that if this policy continues to be implemented, it will reduce America’s innovation capacity and weaken its position in global competition.

The burden on small businesses will increase

The MPs also argued that such high fees would make it almost impossible for small startups and research institutes to hire international talent. According to him, this policy will only favor big companies, while the real strength of American innovation lies in small businesses and emerging startups.”

Possible impact on India-US relations

Diplomatic analysts say that this visa policy of Trump can affect the strategic partnership that has been going on between the two countries for years. A large number of Indian professionals work in America in fields like technology, engineering, medicine and finance. Experts say that if new tariffs and restrictions are implemented, it will not only reduce Indian talent flow but will also limit educational and business cooperation between the two countries.

During a program organized at Mississippi University in America, such a moment came which stunned the entire hall. When US Vice President JD Vance was speaking on migration policy on the stage, a female student of Indian origin wearing a pashmina shawl stood up and asked him a question. Vance had said in his speech that America should now reduce the number of legal immigrants, because the increasing population is increasing the burden on the society.

On this the student directly asked him that you brought us here by showing us the American dream, we studied, worked, paid taxes, now you say that we are more? Want to kick us out? After the student’s question, the auditorium echoed with applause and the atmosphere became heated for some time.

Vance’s response and increasing tension

JD Vance tried to remain calm on the student’s question. He said he respects legal immigrants, but allowing millions of new people into the country every year could upset the social balance. He said that America should reduce the pace of migration keeping in mind the priorities of its citizens. The student then said, “This is not an uproar, it is a question. We are asking what every immigrant is feeling.” Vance said with a smile that dialogue is necessary, but the country’s policies are based on balance, not emotions.

Questions raised on religion and identity also

The conversation did not end here. The student asked Vance if “you have to be a Christian to love America?” This question was special because Vance’s wife Usha Vance is a Hindu of Indian origin. On this the Vice President said that my wife is a Hindu and I am a Christian. I want him to understand our religion, but if he doesn’t want to, that’s his right. God has given every person the freedom to choose his own path.” Hearing his answer, the atmosphere calmed down a bit, but the video clip went viral on social media. Thousands of Indian-American users praised the courage of the student and said that she spoke as the voice of every migrant.

Growing concern among Indian students and professionals

This incident has happened at a time when America’s migration policies are becoming increasingly strict. Many Indian students are troubled by the new conditions of H-1B and OPT visas. Thousands of visas have been canceled and the EAD (Employment Authorization) process has also been made more complicated. The Indian community says they have been contributing to America’s economy and innovation for years, yet now they are being made to feel like they are a burden. Because of this many youth are confused about their future.

During a public event at the University of Mississippi in America, a woman of Indian origin challenged Vice President JD Vance in an open forum on immigration policy. Questioning the harsh immigration policies of the Donald Trump administration, the woman asked, ‘Why are people who have come to America following the rules, through hard work and by paying money, now there is talk of expelling them from here?’ This entire incident was captured on camera and is now going viral on social media.

What did the woman say during the program?
When the round of questions started during the programme, a woman of Indian origin stood up and said – ‘When you say that there are too many immigrants here, then who decided the limit of ‘too many’? You asked us to come here, invested our youth, our hard work, our money in this country, now you are the one who says that we cannot live here?

Vance said – ‘Less people should come, so that the social structure of the country is preserved’
JD Vance said in response that America should accept only a small number of legal immigrants. He argued that ‘uncontrolled immigration could affect the social unity of the country.’ Vance said, ‘If 100 people contribute to the country by coming illegally, it does not mean that now we should allow 1 million or 1 crore people to come every year.’

The woman asked – ‘When you yourself showed the way, why are you stopping me now?’
The woman then retorted and said that it was the American government that had assured people of the ‘American Dream’ for years. You yourself made your way to work hard, pay, and live here. Now you yourself say that we have gone beyond what is required – how is this justified?

Vance asked questions on wife’s religion
The woman also asked Vance about his interfaith marriage and whether his marriage to his Hindu wife has changed his worldview. On this JD Vance said- ‘I am a Christian and I stand by my faith. I want my wife to understand this too, but if she doesn’t want to, that’s her free will.
A big global movement has started in protest against the policies of US President Donald Trump. This campaign has been named ‘No Kings’, which means, we do not believe in any king. This movement has spread from America to Europe and Asia.

Hundreds of people gathered outside the US Embassy in London on Saturday (18 October 2025) against the policies of the Trump administration. The protesters said that they are standing in protest against the President’s increasing dictatorial behavior and the threat to democratic institutions.

Protest started from London, impact spread to the world

This rally in London is being considered as the first phase of the No Kings campaign. With this, more than 2,600 demonstrations have been organized across the world. Even in Spanish cities like Madrid and Barcelona, people took to the streets and protested. In America, thousands of people in New York, Washington and Chicago expressed their displeasure over the policies of the Trump administration.

People said – ‘Democracy is not anyone’s personal empire’

Leah Greenberg, co-founder of Indivisible, an organization associated with the campaign, said that this demonstration is to protect democracy. He said that the idea that we do not have kings is the soul of the American Constitution. This movement gives the message that citizens will have to raise their voice again.

Increased commotion and security in America

Protestors marched peacefully in many parts of America. Hundreds of people in Virginia headed towards Washington DC and gathered near Arlington Cemetery. Organizers said that this campaign has received the support of more than 300 social organizations. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has also trained thousands of volunteers to ensure that the protests remain peaceful.

Leaders and celebrities gave support

America’s progressive leaders Bernie Sanders, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Hillary Clinton also supported the campaign. Many celebrities gave a message of unity on social media with the No Kings hashtag. A few months ago, similar protests took place on Trump’s birthday, in which lakhs of people participated.

Trump said – ‘I am not a king’

Trump responded to the protests by saying it was wrong to call him a king. He also said that these demonstrations are politically motivated and harm the image of the country. Republican Party leaders also criticized these protests, calling them anti-America campaigns.

People’s voice got a platform again

American sociologist Dana Fisher believes that the No Kings campaign could prove to be the largest mass movement in recent years. He says that this is not just a protest against Trump’s policies, but it is the voice of those who are feeling suppressed. According to Fischer, more than three million people can join this movement, which shows that the public will no longer remain silent.

Former US Ambassador Tim Romer has said that the plan by President Donald Trump to impose a new and heavy H-1B visa fee on Indians, can once again become an issue of talks after the Indo-US trade agreement. This step of the Trump administration has come amid strictness on immigration, which will have a profound impact on Indian IT companies and skilled professionals. The US has already increased 50% tariff and now the proposed 1 million visa fee can make American dreams difficult for Indian students and professionals. However, India is currently studying the impact of this decision.

In a conversation with NDTV, Romer admitted that the step could interrupt the relationship between the two countries, but hoped that the visa issue would be reconsidered after the business talks proceed. He also said that it is possible that the court or the US Congress should stop this decision, because the Congress has the right to decide the number of H-1B visas.

Romer said this big thing

He insisted that giving H-1B visas to Indian students and professionals is also beneficial for America. These students start new companies in the US by acquiring PhD and jobs, which are called ‘Unicorns’ and they create hundreds of thousands of jobs.

Citing a study, Romer said that about 25% of the new technology jobs are made by students of Indian origin, who later become CEOs and strengthen the American economy.

India has also been emphasizing the aspect that H-1B visa holders strengthen innovation, technological development and people’s relations with people. The Ministry of External Affairs said that policies will be evaluated keeping in mind the benefits.

US President Donald Trump has increased the difficulties for India’s IT professionals by increasing the H1B visa fees. Now Indians will have to spend 1 lakh dollars (about 88 lakh rupees) for H1B visa. This decision has made the dream of working in America expensive and concern has increased in India’s IT sector and startups.

What did the Trump administration say?

The Trump administration says that the new ‘Gold Card’ option will help America bring the most efficient professional directly. He argues that the misuse of H1B visa is becoming a threat to American jobs. According to the White House data, in 2003, H1B professionals had 32% IT jobs, which would exceed 65% by 2025.

The new visa fees will think twice before going to the Indian professional America. Experts say that this is both challenge and opportunity for India. Many companies have now reduced their dependence on H1B visas and are increasing recruitment at the local level.

How will India benefit?

Experts in the IT industry believe that the new fees will be forced to return home to the Indian talent working in America. This will increase the flow of skill, experience and capital in India. According to Vivek Wadhwa, CEO of Vionix Biosciences, this will be a financial loss for America but India will benefit.

It is time for the Government of India and companies to increase local opportunities and establish India as a global tech hub. Experts believe that ‘American Dream’ in America will be difficult now, but India will get the benefit in the long time. This change will completely change the scenario of global IT talent and Indian professionals will explore their career and business options under new circumstances.

This time is becoming very challenging for H-1B visa holders working in America. While the...

This time is becoming very challenging for H-1B visa holders working in America. While the employees fired from the job have been given a 60-day grace period to change the new job or visa status, on the other hand the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has started sending notice to appear (NTA) within this period. According to the report of Pew Research, the most H-1B visa in America is given to Indians. Out of the H-1B visa holders approved in 2023, about three-fourths (73%) were the people of India. China was at number two, which was just 12 percent.

This is the first phase of NTA deportation proceedings and is generally released when a person is living illegally in the US, but now this notice is also being received to those who have pending applications for changing visa status.

What is NTA and why it is serious?
NTA means notice to appear is a legal document sent to appear in the immigration court. When this notice is received, it shows that exile action has been initiated on the person. Under this, action of unlawful presence starts. Visa may face difficulties in increasing the time limit or gaining green cards. Apart from this, 3 or 10 years of ban on entering America in future can also be imposed.

What do USCIS guidelines say?
According to the guidelines issued in 2025 by the USCIS, an application can be made for the change of status within the 60-day grace period. If the application is pending within this deadline, then the person should be considered in the authorized stay, until that application is decided, NTA should not be sent. However, immigration experts claim that USCIS is no longer following these guidelines and is also sending NTA to those who applied on time.

Experts warning is contrary to law
Sameer Khedekar, founder of Vangard Visa Law, said that many H-1B visa holders are getting NTA at a time when their I-539 (application of status change) is pending. At the same time, advocate Rajiv S. Khanna said that if the person has applied in time and in proper form, then he should not be considered in an illegal presence. Despite this, USCIS is releasing about 1,840 NTA every week, many of which are being released in violation of policies.

Rules regarding H-1B visa in America
Recently, the US government is going to make many necessary changes in the process of issuing H-1B visas. In relation to this, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has proposed the weight selection process. In this, instead of lottery system, those applicants will be given a chance, whose profile will be better. Let us know that Indians have the highest number of H-1B visa holders in America. Due to this, the most impact of new changes will be on the Indian.

Also read: There are only 9 thousand people left in this country, the population is decreasing rapidly in these countries of the world

Us immigration policy: The Trump administration in the US has taken a shocking decision. The Homeland Security Department (DHS) led by Trump Administration has sent the entire staff of the Citizenship and Immigration Services (CIS) Lokpal office on a long leave of 60 days. It is not being seen as a temporary change but as a strategic decision. This decision has deepened the doubt that the independent immigration inspection system is being gradually eliminated by the Trump administration.

The CIS office worked freely compared to United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). It used to help about 30,000 people out of immigration problems every year. Its main objective was to ensure transparency and fairness in immigration processes. However, now no department can monitor the functioning of USCIS due to temporary closure of CIS.

The most impact of this change can be on those of Indian origin who are working in America on H-1B visa or studying on F-1 visa. Both these sections are often victims of the slow process of USCIS, documentary mistakes and delay in form processing. For this, he used to resort to CIS Lokpal, which made his work easy. However, now Trump’s decision can bring a lot of difficulties for him.
H-1B visa holders trouble
When the CIS Lokpal is temporarily closed, H-1B visa holders will have to find alternative avenues to know the status of their petition or challenge the inequalities of the USCIS. However, the biggest concern is that there will be no fair or independent eye on the decision process of USCIS in the absence of Lokpal.

Reaction of immigration lawyers and MPs
The American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) and several advocacy groups have sharply criticized the decision. He believes that this step indicates lack of transparency in the immigration system and monopoly of administrative control. Democratic MPs have specifically described the move as disregard of legal imperative, as the affected office was established with the help of CIS Office for Civil Rights and Civil Liberties law and it cannot be removed.

What can the affected immigrants do?
After the closure of the Lokpal, there are some major options in front of the affected immigrants:

1. Contact your Congress representative: In many cases, representatives can get information directly from USCIS and get matters priority.

2. Take the help of immigration lawyer: Professional guidance is very important for especially difficult cases. The help of certified lawyers can be taken from institutions like Aila.

3. Keep detail records of all documents: Every email, letter, call log and copy of the application should be maintained so that it can be presented as evidence at any time.

4. Consider premium processing: If a visa holder is financially possible, then you can speed up the application process by taking advantage of the premium processing facility of USCIS.

Usa news: US President Donald Trump on Thursday announced the launch of the CBP Home App. This is a platform that allows people living illegally in the United States to leave the country voluntarily. Trump warned that those who do not use this option will have to face forcibly expulsion and can be banned for life on their re-entry.

However, he indicated that people who voluntarily opt for the country to leave the country may have an opportunity to legally enter America in the future.

US President Donald Trump said this

US President Donald Trump said, “People living illegally in our country can either choose exile voluntarily or they will be deported in a difficult way, which will not be pleasant. The Biden administration allowed more than 1 million illegal migrants to enter the US using the CBP One app. Now my administration is launching the CBP Home app to give an easy way to leave the country illegally in our country.

He further said, “If they voluntarily leave the country, they may get an opportunity to legally return at some time in the future. But if they do not take advantage of the opportunity, they will be discharged and exiled and will never be allowed to enter the United States again. You will never come in again.” Trump also said that voluntary exile through the CBP Home app can save government resources. He said that this app is now available for free on all mobile app stores.

Trump administration had to face criticism

According to CNN report, the announcement has been made at a time when the Trump administration has deported hundreds of migrants, but refused to reveal their identity or evidence against them. Due to this, families of migrants and civil rights groups have criticized the administration. He argues that this step is weakening civil freedom.
