A Chinese diplomat in India has targeted America over Donald Trump’s additional 100 percent tariff on imports from China and export control on American software. He said that if Washington does not relent, his country will respond appropriately.

Speaking at an event on Wednesday (October 23) in Kolkata, Chinese Consul General Xu Wei said regarding the US-China tariff war that America should correct its mistakes, otherwise China will be forced to take necessary steps to protect its rights.

‘If forced, we will definitely respond’
Responding to a question from reporters, Wei said, “China’s stance on the issue of the US-China tariff war is very clear. We do not want any conflict, but if we are forced, we will definitely respond. We will fight, but our doors are open. We are reiterating that cooperation benefits both countries.”

Wei stressed that both India and China should formulate a strategy to face the current challenge. Not only China, but America and India also need cooperation because cooperation benefits everyone and confrontation hurts everyone. He further said that from January to September 2025 alone, trade between the two countries reached US $ 115 billion, which shows strong commercial relations despite global challenges.

China stopped buying soybean from America
In response to US tariffs, China did not import any soybeans from the US in September. This was the first time since November 2018 that the shipment became zero. Instead, imports from South America increased faster than a year ago, as Chinese buyers avoided US goods amid ongoing trade tensions between the two largest global economies.

Huge loss to American farmers
Experts believe that without progress in trade talks, US farmers are at risk of losing billions of dollars as Chinese soybean traders continue to import from South American suppliers. However, Beijing may face supply shortages before Brazil’s new crop is ready early next year.

US President Donald Trump announced on Monday that 25% import duty (tariff) will be imposed on all medium and heavy trucks imported in the US from 1 November 2025. This step has been taken to protect American truck manufacturers from foreign competition.

Trump wrote on his social media platform, “From 1 November 2025, 25% tariffs will be imposed on all medium and heavy duty trucks coming from other countries.” Trump said that the decision has been taken to protect American companies and workers from unfair foreign competition. He said, “We will not let our industries suffer from foreign dumping and wrong trade policies.”

Which countries will be affected

The decision will affect many countries, including Mexico, Canada, Japan, Germany and Finland.

Mexico exports the most medium and heavy trucks to the US. Since 2019, the truck export of Mexico has increased three times to about 3.4 lakh units.

Under the USMCA agreement between the US, Mexico and Canada, trucks can still be imported without any duty, provided their 64% value comes from North America. The new tariff can affect this system.

Impact on companies

Stellantis (which makes ‘Ram’ brand trucks and vans) may now have to face more costs on trucks made in Mexico.

The Volvo Group is a Sweden company that is constructing a new 700 million dollar truck plant in Montere, Mexico, which is expected to be operational in 2026. The new tariff can also affect this investment.

Time to implement tariff increased

Last month, Trump had said that this tariff could be applicable from October 1, but now its date has been extended to 1 November 2025. He claimed that this step would benefit American companies like Peterbilt, Kenworth and Freightliner.

Currently, under the trade agreements with the US, Japan and the European Union, light vehicles impose 15% tariffs, but it is not clear how the new rule will apply to large vehicles.

Chinese refineries have increased the purchase of crude oil from Russia. This increase has happened at a time when the demand for oil from Russia has decreased from India. US President Donald Trump has warned that a secondary tariff can be imposed on the countries buying oil from Russia to put pressure on Moscow and end the Ukraine War.

China saw ‘opportunity’ in Russia oil

Senior analyst Mayu Shu of Kepler, who tracks commodity and shipping data, said that this move of China is ‘opportunism’, as Russian oil is at least $ 3 per barrel cheaper than the Middle East.

India reduced purchases, China handed over a chance

According to the Reuters report, the Indian government refineries banned the purchase of Russian oil last month. According to Jones of Energy Aspects, India has reduced its purchase of about 6 to 7 lakh barrels per day. Mayu Shu says, ‘Right now there is a very good opportunity for China to shop, because the pressure of Trump continues on India. Prices are low, so more refineries can be purchased in the next one or five weeks.

China bought 15 cargo for delivery

According to Reuters, China has bought 15 cargo from Russia for the delivery of October and November. After the Russia’s attack on Ukraine in 2022, western countries reduced the purchase of oil from Russia. After this, India emerged as the biggest buyer of Russia, which buys oil by sea route at cheap prices.

Trump imposed 50 percent tariff on India, also warns China

Trump said that at present there is no plan to impose a tariff immediately on China, but ‘in two to three weeks’ can be considered. At the same time, Trump has first imposed 25 percent tariff on India and has also announced to impose 25 percent extra tariff, which will be applicable from August 27.

China will not be able to fulfill India’s deficiency

Analyst Shu said that China buys about 1.2 million barrels of Russian oil on the sea route daily, but it is not enough to fulfill India’s deficiency as India buys about 17 lakh barrels of oil daily from Russia. He said, ‘If India stops buying, it will be a big problem for Russia. China alone cannot take full quantity of India.

India and America have now reached the lowest level of several decades. India does not seem to get relief from the tariff imposed by US President Donald Trump. According to sources, on Saturday (August 16, 2025), India suffered a major setback when the US postponed the sixth round of the proposed bilateral trade agreement. This meeting was to be held in Delhi from 25 to 29 August. An American official said that the visit would probably be rescheduled later.

Sixth round postponed, shock to India
So far, five rounds of talks have been held between India and America regarding the trade deal. The sixth round of meeting was considered important, but due to its postponement, difficulties have increased for India. This delay will directly affect the tariff as the additional 25 percent penalty tariff i.e. 50 percent fees imposed by the US are going to be implemented from August 27.

American pressure on agriculture and dairy
The US wants it to get more markets in India’s agriculture and dairy sector. But India has made it clear that the interests of farmers will not be compromised. India is an agricultural country and if the American market interferes with the Indian agriculture sector, it will have a big impact on the farmers and the economy.

Future of trade
India and America have been a long time trade partner. The two countries have targeted that the first phase of bilateral trade deal will be completed by September-October 2025. Also, the plan is to increase bilateral trade by $ 500 billion by 2030. Currently, about $ 191 billion is being traded between the two countries.

Tariff’s effect
The US has imposed 25 percent tariff on India since August 7. Apart from this, due to purchasing crude oil and military equipment from Russia, an additional 25 percent punitive tariff has also been imposed on India, which will be applicable from August 27. This will affect both India’s exports and imports.

Indo-US business figures
According to the latest Commerce Ministry data, India’s exports to the US rose by 21.64% to $ 33.53 billion between April-July 2025. At the same time, imports from the US rose 12.33% to $ 17.41 billion during this period. During this period, America remained India’s largest trading partner.

The relationship between the two countries is being seen in the relationship between America on India. US Finance Minister Scott Besant has claimed that India has been slightly obstructed in trade talks with America. Besant’s comment came a few days after Donald Trump put 25 percent additional tariff on Indian imports citing oil purchases from Russia.

The additional tariff imposed on India by the US will come into effect from August 27, due to which both countries are trying to find a middle way through talks.

‘Still waiting for big business agreements’
According to a report by news agency Reuters, Besant said that big trade agreements are still awaited, including agreements with Switzerland and India. Referring to India especially, he said that India’s stand in the ongoing talks is a bit obstinate.

Besant reportedly to the Kudlo of the Fox Business Network said that the Trump administration can complete the trade talks till October last. According to Reuters, he said that it is ambitious, but I think we are in good condition. Besant further said that I think we can do so that all important countries will agree on concrete terms.

What did the Union Finance Ministry say
The Union Finance Ministry informed Parliament on Tuesday (August 12, 2025) that the US would affect more than half of India’s total export price. Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary, in a written reply to Lok Sabha MP Abhishek Banerjee, said that it is estimated that about 55 percent of the total export price of India to the US is due to the reciperock tariff.

On the announcement of US President Donald Trump’s announcement of 25 percent tariff on India’s goods, the Government of India has said that he will not retaliate against it. India is ready to resolve this issue through dialogue. It is only through discussion that a solution can be found keeping in mind the interests of both sides.

From 1 August 2025, Indian imports were imposed 25 percent, Trump has also signed the executive order for this. Trump has described the frequent oil imports from Russia and long -standing trade obstacles with the US as the main reason behind the imposition of tariffs.

What is India’s stand on Trump’s tariff?
India Today quoted the government source as saying that India would not answer this. Being silent is the best answer from India. Whatever we do, we will do it on the table of conversation. Trump, claiming excessive tariffs and restrictive non -tariff barrier obstacles in Truth Social Post, emphasized that India is considered a friend, but business relations between the two countries have been limited.

What did Donald Trump say?
Trump described the tariff imposed by India on the US import and objected to the most rigorous and non -tariff barrier barriers compared to any country. Strongly criticizing India’s old business relations with Russia, the US President called the two countries dead economies and said that they do not care what New Delhi does with Moscow. This happened when the two countries have been discussing a trade agreement for months, but no final agreement has been reached. Trump is insisting on increasing the reach of American goods in the Indian market.

India-as Mini Trade Deal: The negotiations on the limited trade agreement between India and the United States are in the final stages. American tariff deadline is happening on Wednesday (July 9, 2025). For other countries, this deadline has been extended till August 1, but India has not been included in it, which is estimated that the official announcement of the deal between the two countries can be made anytime tonight.

The conversation was going on for a long time
According to a senior official, talks were going on between India and the US for several weeks. However, this deal will be limited as many areas could not be agreed. India was firm on its demands and was willing to face the tariff, but the US took the initiative to negotiate.

Suspense over tariff
It is not yet clear how much tariff America will impose on India, but according to reports it can be between 10 and 20 percent. Donald Trump warned of 10% additional tariff on BRICS countries. 26% of the recipe rockel tariff has already been implemented on India.

India does not have a trade deficit from America
In the financial year 2022-23, India exported ₹ 6.84 lakh crore to the US while in 2023-24 it was ₹ 6.75 lakh crore. At the same time, India’s imports from America decreased from ₹ 4.43 lakh crore to ₹ 3.67 lakh crore in 2023-24. India exports double to America, which will benefit it despite the tariff.

China-Bangladesh loss, India will get benefit
After the Geneva Agreement, the tariff war between the US and China has intensified. The US has imposed 51% tariff on China and 35% on Bangladesh. This will affect the export capacity of these countries and India will get competitive benefits in the US market, especially in textile.

Who will benefit from this deal?
To India:

Textile, medicines, and jewelery access to the US market

Export will be cheaper by removing 26% reciperook tariff

Bilateral trade can reach $ 500 billion by 2030

To America:

Products like Pekan Nuts, Blueberry and Automobiles are a chance to sell on low tariffs in India

An opportunity to strengthen market in Asia

The possibilities of broad deal in future will be stronger

India oil and lng import: India’s third largest crude oil importer and consumer India can save up to Rs 1.8 lakh crore on liquefied natural gas (LNG) and crude oil imports. This has been revealed in the estimate of rating agency ICRA.

In the financial year ending 31 March, 2025, India spent $ 242.4 billion on crude oil imports. India meets the need for more than 85 % crude oil from imports. In addition, $ 15.2 billion is spent on LNG imports as almost half of the demand for LNG in India meets domestic production.

There can be so much savings on oil and LNG imports

In the beginning of this week, oil prices came to a four -year low of $ 60.23 per barrel amid increasing concerns over global supply amid uncertain demand. Rating agency Iqra has estimated that the average crude oil prices for FY 2026 (April 2025 to March 2026) will be within $ 60-70 per barrel.

In such a situation, savings of Rs 1.8 lakh crore on import of crude oil and Rs 6,000 crore on import of LNG are possible. A reduction in crude oil prices will cause savings, but the refiner may also face inventory deficit. In addition, the possibility of further increase in excise duty cannot be ruled out.

The common man also benefits

If this trend of softening on energy rates at the international level remains intact, then the general public of the country can also benefit from it. Petrol and diesel prices can be reduced in the coming days, this will also save the common man.

Us-china tarif war: Economic conflict between America and China is not a new issue. In the trade war that started from 2018, the two countries put heavy tariffs on each other’s products from time to time. However, this dispute has now reached a new height, when the US increased the tariff on products imported from China to 125%.

The main objective of increasing tariffs against China from the US is to motivate domestic companies to manufacture and reduce dependence on Chinese goods. Trump’s move will affect not only China, but also American consumer, because cheaper goods imported from China will now become expensive. This can increase inflation in the US market.

What does America buy from China?
China is one of the largest exporting countries of America. In the US market, electronics, toys and consumer products are well supplied from China. These include especially electronics items, including smartphones, computers, video games, lithium-ion batteries etc.

Light fixtures, seats, mattresses are exported from China to America in home decor and furniture. Talking about textile, sweaters, clothes and shoes reach the US market in large numbers from China. In other products, China also exports plastic items, motor vehicles parts, party decorations, medical equipment etc. Now the increase in tariffs will increase the price of these items in America.

What does China import from America?
China not only sells goods in the American market but also buys from them. China is the leading buyer of American agriculture product and industrial machinery. The main goods from the US to China include agriculture products, energy resources, industrial machinery, medicine, including scrap copper, esiclic hydrocarbon, ethylene polymer. If China reverses American exports in these areas, then American agriculture and tech companies may suffer a big loss.

Impact on trade
The trade deficit between the US and China in 2024 stood at $ 295.4 billion, which is 5.8% higher than in 2023. At the same time, exports from the US to China declined by 2.9%, while the import of Chinese goods increased by 2.8% in the US. It is clear from this data that China is also getting a shock due to the dispute, but the consumer is also being affected in America. If both countries do not back down, then this trade deficit can increase further, which can pose a threat to global economic instability.

Donald Trump News: US President Donald Trump is going to impose new tariffs from April 2. He is planning to tax the import of car and car parts. Trump is saying ‘Liberation Day’ on 2 April. He says that he will impose equal tax on the business partners, whose business policy does not seem right.

Earlier, Trump has also taxed the import of steel and aluminum. He has also imposed tax on goods coming from Canada, China and Mexico. Now it is indicated that he will also impose tax on countries in Asia, Europe and South America, who sell more things to America but buy less from America.

This tariff will be applicable from April 2

Donald Trump has said that he will impose 25% tariffs on motor vehicles, which will start from April 2. He told that the tariffs on the parts of the car will be applicable later. The US imports about 80 million cars every year, which costs around $ 240 billion. Apart from this, the US has also imposed 25% tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico since March 4 and 10% tariff has been imposed on energy imports from Canada.

Other countries are also imposing tariffs

Motor vehicles and their parts are made under the Free Trade Agreement of America-Mexico and Canada, so they are kept separate from tariffs. But this is the same as long as the custom offices of America do not create a system of imposing new duty. The White House says that the purpose of imposing tariffs on Canada and Mexico is to prevent their governments from entering illegal migrants and illegally formed by entering the US.

On February 4, the US imposed a 10% tariff on goods coming from China, which was increased to 20% on March 4. However, the shipments that cost less than $ 800 have been kept separate from this tariff. In response, China has imposed 10 to 15% tariffs on US goods, including agricultural equipment. Canada has also imposed tariffs on US goods worth more than $ 40 billion in reply, while Mexico has avoided putting tariffs. Apart from this, on March 12, the US has imposed 25% tariffs on steel and aluminum coming from any country in the world.

These countries have an impact

This decision of America has affected Canada, Brazil, Mexico, South Korea, Vietnam and Japan as these countries send steel and aluminum to the US. The European Union has also decided to impose tariffs on US goods worth $ 28 billion from 1 April, including Borbon Whiskey, Motorbikes and Boat.

From March 25, the US has imposed 25% tariffs on goods coming from countries that buy oil from Venezuela. The White House says that they want to pressurize the ‘corrupt’ government of the country. According to research company Moody’s Analytics, the current tariffs are on a total of $ 1.4 trillion worth of goods. This has increased the average US tariff rate on imported goods to 10%, the highest level after World War II.

Which new tariffs will be applicable from April 2?

Trump is repeatedly saying ‘Liberation Day’ on 2 April. He wrote on social media platform Truth Social, “April 2 will be Liberation Day in America.” He said, “Every country in the world has looted us for many decades-whether they are friends or enemies. Now the time has come that America will get its honor and money back.” During the election campaign, Trump had said that 10 to 20% discount will be given in tariffs on their goods that enter America. Recently, he talked about putting a reciperook tariff and said, “They charge us, so we will also levy them.”

However, in an interview to Newsmax TV on March 24, he said that his stand could be soft about this scheme and many countries can be given relief. He said, “Some countries will be kept separate. We will levy less fees from the fee they pay on us.” According to the CNBC report, the White House has said that they can leave a plan to put tariffs on those countries who impose value added tax on their goods.
Kevin Haset, director of the US Economic Council, said, “I see that the market is hoping that big tariffs will be installed on a few countries.”

Know how the effect of tariff will be will be

The tariff will affect both America and other countries. Economists believe that imposing tariffs will increase the prices of things for American consumers and the production cost of American companies will also increase. American exporters will also be harmed by putting tariffs in response to other countries. According to Moody’s Analytics, due to tariff, America’s economy may fall by 0.6% in the coming year and will also lead to 2.5 lakh jobs. Moody’s Analytics also stated that Canada and Mexico are very dependent on the US market for their imports, so they too may have to pay a heavy price for this tariff and it will be difficult to escape the recession.
