Before New Year’s Eve, today (31st December), gig workers (all delivery workers including Swiggy, Zomato, Amazon, Flipkart) have announced a strike across the country. In such a situation, there may be problems in ordering food for the New Year party and in online delivery. Gig workers are on strike demanding fair wages, safety and many other demands.

National General Secretary of Indian Federation of App-Based Transport Workers (IFAT) Sheikh Salauddin said that today gig workers across the country will keep all app-based platforms off and hold peaceful demonstrations at major places. Let us tell you that people doing online delivery are called gig workers.

He told that on December 25, online platform companies were given a strike warning, but no talks were held with the gig workers, nor were any security and working hours fixed. That is why strike has become necessary again today on 31st December. He said that online platform companies are silent on all these demands. The government should immediately intervene regarding the demands of gig workers.

‘It became difficult to get incentives’
Sheikh Salauddin said that this is not just a protest but a fight for the survival and basic rights of gig workers. The salary of gig workers has been reduced based on the orders received. Apart from this, compensation based on distance and time has also been reduced. He said that by doing this it has become difficult for the workers to get incentives and it has been changed arbitrarily. The result is that gig workers are earning less than before and having to work more to fulfill orders.

‘Gig workers are being exploited’
He also said that gig workers are being exploited through online algorithms. 10 minute delivery means more delivery pressure. In such a situation, there is a risk of accidents and mental stress due to driving at high speed. Gig workers are not machines but giving incentives for working long hours, all these things force them to work for 10-10 hours.

read this also

Dense fog increased the problem! More than 300 flights affected at Delhi airport, advisory before New Year celebrations

A special addition iPhone can be launched for the 20th anniversary of the American devices maker Apple’s iPhone. It is likely to be the iPhone Pro model. It can be launched with Apple’s foldable iPhone. The sales of iPhones have increased rapidly over the years.

Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman has told in his weekly Power on Newsletter that Apple has given a Pro model and foldable on glass for the 20th anniversary of the iPhone and foldable IPhone Is planned to launch. Along with this, Gurman has said that these iPhones will be manufactured not in India but in China. He said that the company of all models of iPhones sold in the US for the next two years will not be able to manufacture in India. Gurman says, “In terms of iPhone quality, manufacturing iPhones in India are similar to China.”

The 20th anniversary model of the iPhone will require new components and different methods of manufacturing. Because of this, it is difficult for Apple to manufacture these iPhones out of China. Apple in India has manufactured $ 22 billion (about Rs 1,89,412 crore) in the last financial year. This is an increase of about 60 percent in the assembling of iPhones in India as compared to the previous financial year. This is indicating the company’s plan to shift some part of manufacturing from China. About 20 percent of the total manufacturing of iPhones is happening in India. This shows that Apple and its suppliers are strengthening their position in the country. In the last financial year, the iPhone stake in the export of smartphones from India was about Rs 1.5 lakh crore.

Apple’s largest manufacturing plant in China had a major impact due to lockdown during Corona. The company then planned to shift some part of its manufacturing from China to India and some other countries. The most assembling of iPhones in India is in the factory of Apple’s contract manufacturer FoxConn. Apart from this, Tata Group’s electronics manufacturing unit also assembles iPhones.

The manufacturing of Apple’s iPhone has increased rapidly in the last few years in the country. Apple -making contract manufacturer FoxConn, which produced iPhone in the country, has increased to about Rs 1.7 lakh crore in the last financial year. It may soon start a new manufacturing plant.

The number of workers of Foxconn has increased by 65 percent. Foxconn has around 80,000 workers in India. This Taiwan company is the largest manufacturer of iPhones. Recently, Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had said that the iPhone is about Rs 1.5 lakh crore in the export of smartphones from the country in the last financial year. He had said that guidelines will be released in the next few weeks for the government’s electronics components scheme of Rs 22,919 crore.

This year, Foxconn plans to assemble about three million units of iPhone. Manufacturing is being tried by Foxconn in a factory near Bengaluru in Karnataka. This trial is being done for the first phase of the plan to increase the manufacturing of iPhone in the country. In this trial, it is being assessed whether this factory can manufacture a large number of iPhone with a large number of iPhone’s manufacturing with the apple stringent parameters. In this year’s budget, Foxconn can benefit from the announcement of tax exemption on the import of smartphone parts.

Apple plans to start manufacturing airpods, macbook and iPad in the country. There is a preparation to start manufacturing airpods for export at Foxconn’s Hyderabad plant. The company plans to shift some part of its manufacturing in China. Manufacturing of the company’s wireless earphones in the country will be an important step in this. About two years ago, Foxcony approved the manufacturing of Airpods in Hyderabad for an investment of about 400 million dollars. Apple’s affordable iPhone 16E, launched in February, has started assembling in India. It will replace the iPhone SE introduced about three years ago. Along with the sale of iPhone 16E being assembled in the country, some countries will also have exports. The company’s iPhone 16 series is also being assembled in the country. <!--

American President Donald Trump has imposed heavy tariffs on imports from many countries. To avoid this tariff, American devices maker Apple has sent about 1.5 million iPhones to the US from chartered cargo flights. The weight of these iPhones is 600 tonnes. America is among the big markets for Apple.

Market analysts say that there may be a large number of Apple devices manufacturing in China, prices of iPhones may increase in the US. The US has imposed the highest tariff of 125 percent on China. This tariff on India is 26 percent. However, this week Trump had stopped the tariff on many countries for three months, but it is not included China. Reuters report quoted sources who are aware of Apple’s plan as saying that the company is trying to avoid this tariff.

A source said that in India, Apple lobbied with Airport Authorities to lose the clearance for customs at Chennai Airport in Tamil Nadu to reduce the clearance from 30 hours to six hours. The company also uses this type of arrangement at some airports in China. In India, the export of smartphones in the last financial year has increased to about two lakh crore rupees. This is an increase of about 54 percent on a year-on-year basis. Smartphone companies including Apple and Samsung have increased their manufacturing and exports in the country to take advantage of the Central Government’s production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme.

Recently, Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had reported that the iPhone’s share in smartphones exports is about Rs 1.5 lakh crore. He said that guidelines will be released in the next few weeks for the government’s electronics components scheme of Rs 22,919 crore. The manufacturing of iPhone has increased rapidly in the last few years in the country. Apple’s contract manufacturer FoxConn had assembled about 1.2 million iPhones in the country last year. This year, Foxconn plans to assemble about three million units of iPhone. <!--
